Chapter 68 Unrecognizable to Family Members

"Leave? How can we leave when she's blocking the door?"

Leng Lin muttered to herself in distress. She looked around and confirmed that there was only one door in the shop, so she couldn't avoid this older woman.

Lin Wan's tears fell like broken beads. She felt as if she had finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel. Blood is thicker than water when you're family, and no matter how bad things get, they are nothing in the face of life, old age, sickness and death.

Lin Wan wiped away her tears, composed herself, walked up to Lin An, raised her hand to stroke the jewelry box, and said:

"Lin An, you know everything, right? I'm so glad you've come to your senses. We'll always be family. Thank you for being so thoughtful."

Lin Wan paused, sniffed, and continued, "Don't worry, I swear, I will never let anyone bully you at home."

Lin An found her words baffling. She herself worked like a donkey for the Lin family, yet she spoke as if she held a high position in the Lin family.

But seeing her haggard face and noticeable weight loss, her tired eyes filled with hope and surprise, like a concubine going mad in the cold palace, Lin An, who was there to buy a gift for his dear Aunt Tong, didn't want to waste a single minute and upset himself.

Lin An reached out and gently pulled Lin Wan's hand away from the jewelry box, saying softly, "Whatever makes you happy, we'll be going now."

"Boss! We don't want the gift box."

The boss stopped tying a bow and watched the show intently, thinking to himself, "Do these two know each other? They both have the surname Lin. One is spending lavishly on his girlfriend, and the other is pawning his belongings to settle his family affairs. Tsk tsk tsk."

Lin An pulled Leng Lin around Lin Wan and was about to leave.

Lin Wan thought he was in a hurry to go to the hospital to see his mother, so she grabbed Lin An's arm and said, "Don't rush!"

She turned to the shop owner and asked, "Boss, how much did you sell it for?"

“Uh… ten million!” The boss dared not lie to the person in question.

Lin Wan was shocked. She knew Lin An was capable, but she didn't expect it to be so exaggerated. A high school senior could spend ten million.

In an instant, she was overjoyed; the Lin family had truly seen the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Thank goodness I came, or you would have been slaughtered!"

Seeing Lin An's blank expression, Lin Wan quickly explained, "I only sold it for six million when I bought it. The original owner just needs to pay the handling fee to redeem it."

Lin An was startled. This jewelry belonged to the Lin family? Of course, he didn't know that his mother had any valuable jewelry. The Lin family was afraid that he was a thief, so they had never shown him anything good.

Lin Wan confidently added, "I know you're filial and want to make your mother happy, but earning money isn't easy, so we can't just waste money."

The boss, caught up in the drama himself, was worried about losing his hard-earned money and exclaimed anxiously:

“He’s not the person in question, and he didn’t say he wanted to redeem it. Even if you’re family, we’ve already completed the transaction, so you can’t go back on your word.”

Lin An knew he couldn't avoid it, so he retorted, "We're not family, we have no relation whatsoever."

Lin Wan was about to argue with the boss when Lin An's words choked her back.

Looking at Lin An, she asked in shock, "Didn't you come to redeem my mother's precious jewelry?"

Lin An pried her hand off his arm and disdainfully swept the spot she had just grabbed with his other hand.

"No, I had no idea you were the one who took this. Don't flatter yourself."

The flame of hope in Lin Wan's eyes was extinguished, replaced by confusion and doubt:

"I don't believe it! Then why did you buy this thing? You can't even wear it."

She hoped that Lin An might just be too proud and hadn't changed his mind yet.

"Ma'am! I'm giving this away, is that alright? It's her mother's birthday, I can't go empty-handed."

Lin An pointed at Leng Lin with a helpless expression.

Lin Wan then noticed the little girl beside him. She recognized the girl; she was the daughter of the ramen shop owner.

Lin Wan muttered to herself, "You're going to give her mother a gift worth ten million..."

She had met Leng Lin's mother before; she was the ramen shop owner who always wore an apron, which was always covered in white flour, and greeted customers with a smile.

Lin Wan was going crazy. She was anxious and worried about her mother's 300,000 yuan surgery fee. Lin An wanted to give the ramen shop owner a gift worth tens of millions of yuan, and he even chose her mother's beloved jewelry.

"How can you do this to Mom? Do you even know she's lying in the ICU, waiting for money for surgery?" Lin Wan shouted out the pain in her heart.

Upon hearing this, Lin An's expression visibly froze for a moment. Zhang Wanru had fallen ill? He looked at Lin Wan without saying a word.

Lin Wan continued her accusations:

“If you hadn’t refused to settle that day, she wouldn’t have been so angry that she collapsed. It’s all your fault.”

Upon hearing this, Lin An laughed in anger. No matter how convoluted the matter was, the blame could always be placed on him.

"She's not dead!" Lin An said sarcastically.

Lin Wan stared wide-eyed, her face filled with disbelief.

"Why did you tell me this? Just to make me happy." Lin An looked gloating. "Okay, thank you for telling me this great news. I'm very happy."

Lin Wan felt a chill run down her spine when she saw him laugh.

"Lin An, what are you saying? This is outrageous! She's your mother!" Lin Wan's voice trembled with anger.

"I don't have a mother. My mother died a long time ago. I'm an orphan. I grew up in an orphanage. Have you forgotten?"

"Lin An, you're not allowed to say such nonsense. No matter what, Mom is in the hospital right now. You have to put aside your personal grudges."

"Then what should I say?" Lin An looked at her with a smile: "Should I go to her and cry my heart out, kneel down and beg for her forgiveness, beg to go back to the Lin family and reconcile with you, and then take out all my money to hire the best doctor to treat her illness?"

Lin Wan was speechless after being rebuked.

"And did I make her sick? Was it because Lin Zhe was fired that she was heartbroken, or was it because you wanted to sell her jewelry for money? Whatever the reason, don't try to morally blackmail me. I'm utterly disobedient and heartless!"

"What goes around comes around, and no one escapes the wrath of Heaven. This is all retribution. Thank you for bringing me this good news. It's worth celebrating. I'm going out to buy two strings of firecrackers to set off."

Lin Wan's eyes widened in shock; she saw hatred in Lin An's eyes.

Lin Wan softened her tone and spoke:

"Lin An, we were wrong before, but Mom is about to have surgery. I beg you to go see her, talk to her nicely, and let her go into the operating room with peace of mind."

This was the first time Lin An had heard the word "beg" from the Lin family, and he felt a little uncomfortable. He glared at Lin Wan and said fiercely:

"Even if she's dead, you don't need to notify me. It has nothing to do with me. The entire Lin family is wiped out, and I won't even take a look. You'd better stay away from me, or I'll settle all the old and new scores together."

Lin Wan's face was ashen. She opened her mouth a few times, but ultimately no sound came out.

Lin An pulled the terrified Leng Lin and walked out.

This was the first time Leng Lin had seen Lin An look so frightening. It took her several dozen meters to recover her senses.

"Lin An, is she alright? She looks like she's in so much pain."

“There are even more painful things waiting for them.”

Lin An said calmly.

Yes, the Lin family's products are about to go bust.
