Chapter 36 The Feast at Hongmen

Lin Rou stormed out of the door and drove towards Lin's Company.

Inside the company chairman's office, Lin Haoran was discussing a new business plan with Lin Wan.

Lin Haoran took a liking to a baby moisturizing cream and was eager to promote it: "Xiao Wan, go to the factory as soon as possible to make contact, sign the contract first, and put it on the shelves immediately if possible, don't delay."

Since the agency level was downgraded, Lin's company lost the agency qualification for Zhou's Group's high-quality products, and the company's turnover has plummeted. Lin Haoran is anxious to find a replacement, otherwise the company's cash flow will soon be cut off.

Lin Wan felt that her father was being a bit too hasty and advised, "Dad, I don't think we need to rush. Let's be more cautious and do more research and user feedback."

"Wait, how long do you think the company can wait in this situation?" Lin Haoran roared.

"But......"

"But what 'but'? What era are we living in now? If we're even a step behind, we'll miss the opportunity. Besides, you know the company doesn't have much cash left..."

The two were having a heated discussion when suddenly the office door was pushed open and Lin Rou walked in.

Lin Haoran frowned and asked impatiently, "What are you doing here?"

Of all his daughters, Lin Haoran disliked Lin Rou. She wasn't as smart as her eldest sister, as pretty as her fourth sister, or as cute as her youngest sister. She was just pretentious and troublesome.

Lin Rou looked anxious: "Dad, something terrible has happened at home, you have to do something about it!"

Lin Haoran's heart skipped a beat; there wasn't a single day of peace in this house: "What happened?"

"It's all because of Lin An. He actually hung out with thugs and beat up Xia's boyfriend and her. Xia was terrified, and her whole face was swollen from the beating."

Lin Wan listened to Lin Rou's description and felt it didn't make sense, so she asked, "When did Xia get a boyfriend? How come we didn't know?"

"Oh, big sister, let's not worry about these details now. Let's hurry up and settle accounts with Lin An."

Having learned his lesson the hard way about acting impulsively, Lin Haoran said coldly, "Lin An isn't a mad dog, why would she hit Xia's boyfriend for no reason?"

Lin Rou was shocked by her father and older sister's cold reaction and said in a fit of anger, "Dad, is Xia really your daughter? What kind of beast is Lin An? He's probably doing this because we announced to the public that we had cut ties with him last time. Knowing that there's no hope of going home, he's taking his anger out on Xia."

Lin Wan frowned. She had already heard about what happened at school last time. She felt that Lin An was not wrong in that matter at least, but Lin Zhe was wrong in conveying the wrong message.

Lin Wan said, "It's unfair to blame Lin An for what happened last time. It was clearly not his fault. You were all too impulsive."

Lin Rou was furious and glared at him, shouting, "Big sister, how can you be biased towards Lin An? If it weren't for him, his family's business wouldn't have suffered such a huge blow. He's a jinx."

"Speaking of favoritism, we've always been biased towards Xiao Zhe, haven't we?"

"Big sister, Xiao Zhe is such a good boy, it's normal to favor him, right? What's wrong with you lately? Last time you even suspected Xiao Zhe of lying. Did Lin An give you some kind of spell, making you so bewitched that you don't even believe Xiao Zhe, who grew up under your watchful eye?"

Lin Wan has been feeling increasingly uneasy lately. Many of the bad things about Lin An came from Lin Zhe's mouth, without any evidence. Because everyone believed Lin Zhe, they have grown to dislike Lin An more and more. The last incident was the same. How could an adult like him misunderstand even a few words? It's time to take some time to investigate these messy things at home.

Lin Wan said earnestly, "It's not that I don't believe him, I just feel that we can't blindly favor Xiao Zhe."

Lin Rou shouted angrily, "I don't care! Xia suffered such a great injustice today! Dad, eldest sister, are you going to confront Lin An or not?"

Lin Haoran was getting a headache from her nagging. He rubbed his throbbing temples and said, "Stop arguing. This is a company. All you do is cause trouble for me. I think you're just trying to stir up trouble."

Compared to his daughter, Lin Haoran cares more about the company's business; he just wants to find new products to generate profits as soon as possible.

After being scolded by her father, Lin Rou didn't dare to say anything and started to sob.

After thinking for a moment, Lin Wan proposed a compromise: "It's Friday today, so it's not appropriate to go to the school to find Lin An now. How about this, I'll go to him tonight and ask him to meet with his family tomorrow to clear things up and see if there's any misunderstanding."

Lin Haoran just wanted to get rid of Lin Rou as soon as possible and stop bothering him. Besides, seeing Lin An meant he could try to get him to plead with President Zhou to restore the Lin family's agency status. Why not? He immediately said:

"Okay, it's settled then. Xiaorou, you can go home now."

Lin Rou wiped away her tears and stood up: "Alright then, but Dad, you must uphold justice tomorrow."

"Okay, okay, let's go!"

Lin Rou wanted to say something more, but hearing her father's impatient tone, she dared not provoke him further and had no choice but to leave the office.

Lin Rou ostensibly owns a sizable coffee shop, but it's never actually made any money; she relies entirely on her family's subsidies. She lacks the ability to live independently, so she maintains a certain distance when dealing with her father, the man who controls the Lin family's finances, and tries her best not to do things he dislikes.

Even her bias towards Lin Zhe stemmed from Lin Rou's belief that he would become the heir to the Lin family. She thought that as long as she treated him well, her life would be secure. She was like a pet cat that was always looking for its master. Even though she often acted eccentrically and showed her claws and sharp teeth, she was always hoping to find a good master to support her.

......

After school, Lin An had just reached his doorstep when he saw a familiar figure and his expression froze. It was Lin Wan, who was staring blankly at the old house in front of her.

Lin An frowned and asked, "How did you find this place?"

Lin Wan turned to look at Lin An, and seeing his cold expression, she felt a little annoyed: "I went to the ramen shop and asked the owner for your address and contact information. You live here?"

Lin An said calmly, "What's wrong with this place? I'm living very well."

"This house is so dilapidated, it might collapse any day now. It's nowhere near as nice as home."

"I like it, it's none of your business."

Lin Wan felt angry because she was clearly concerned about him, but he was so ungrateful. She took a deep breath and silently told herself, "I won't stoop to his level. I'm here to mediate."

He steadied his tone and said, "I know that the incident at the school caused by Mom and Dad last time made you unhappy, but we are still a family with blood ties. No matter what, you can't take your anger out on Lin Xia."

"That's what Lin Xia said when she got home?" Lin An was so angry he laughed. He had clearly let Lin Xia off the hook, but she turned around and framed him.

Lin Wan heard the disdain in his tone: "Lin An, don't be so emotional. Go meet with your family tomorrow and we'll talk things out."

Lin An couldn't understand. He had made his meaning very clear, and the Lin family had also publicly stated that they were severing ties. Why were they still trying to get involved? Was they trying to set a trap for him? He was about to refuse.

Lin Wan didn't give him a chance to speak, and handed him a beautifully packaged box of pastries.

"Here, these are your favorite pastries."

Lin An felt bewildered. Why was he suddenly being so nice to her? She subconsciously took a few steps back. Could there be something poisoned in the pastry?

In his previous life, he had witnessed the Lin family's ruthless methods, and it wouldn't be impossible for them to poison him.

Seeing his wary expression, Lin Wan felt a little lost. Lately, she had been thinking about how she hadn't treated him and Lin Zhe equally in the past, and she felt quite bad about it. So she made a special detour to buy his favorite pastries, just to make it up to him.

Lin Wan stepped forward, grabbed Lin An's hand, and stuffed the things into his hand: "Lin An, take this. See you at the restaurant tomorrow. I'll send you the address."

After saying that, Lin Wan turned around and got into the car.

"I don't want it, you can take it."
