Chapter 45 Not Returning Home All Night

Leng Lin followed Lin An to the old house.

Leng Lin, who was initially feeling down, became much happier because of Lin An's award.

"Lin An, I was so worried before."

What are you worried about?

"I was worried you wouldn't do well in the competition, and if you lost the bet, you'd have to kowtow to someone."

Lin An smiled and said, "Now you can rest assured, you can worry about yourself now."

Leng Lin said in a serious tone, "Nothing in the world is difficult if you are willing to give up. I am not cut out for studying."

"That's not necessarily true."

"You don't need to comfort me. I've already thought it through. After the college entrance exam, you'll go to university in Beijing, and I'll open a Yongji branch near your school. How about that?"

Upon hearing Leng Lin's plan, Lin An's face lit up with the bright smile that a young man should have: "Running a shop is tiring, and your parents will worry about you. I have other ways to help you with your studies, so don't worry."

"What? Do you really have some secret study method?" Leng Lin thought Lin An was just making an excuse to take her out to rescue her from her predicament.

"You'll see when you get there."

The two entered the old house, and Lin An led Leng Lin up to the bedroom on the second floor. As soon as they entered the room, he pulled her close to the bed.

In the small room, their breaths mingled together, and Leng Lin's heart fluttered, causing her to blush unconsciously.

To ease her tension, she asked Lin An, "Do you summarize your study methods in bed?"

Lin An didn't reply, but turned the pillow over and took out the Wenqu talisman from underneath.

Leng Lin stared at the palm-sized talisman in front of her, her expression even more puzzled: "What is this?"

"Here's the Wenqu talisman." Lin An handed over the talisman.

He chose to give Leng Lin the Wenqu talisman he had used before, instead of drawing a new one, because he felt that he had verified the talisman's effects. It could take effect on the first day, and its power would be at its peak after three days. Although he wouldn't feel anything after that, he believed that it would be enough for Leng Lin to get into university.

Leng Lin didn't understand what Lin An was trying to do, but she believed that Lin An was definitely doing it for her own good, so she reached out to take the talisman.

The moment her fingertips touched the talisman, Leng Lin felt a surge of power enter her body, but she, being a carefree person, didn't pay any attention to it.

Lin An, standing to the side, was stunned. He was certain it wasn't his imagination. The moment Leng Lin touched the talisman, he clearly saw a flash of white light, and starlight extended upwards from her fingertips, flashing briefly on her forehead before disappearing.

Looking at the talisman paper that had been handed to Leng Lin, the pattern that was bright and shiny just a minute ago was now dull and lifeless, as if it had lost its luster and vitality.

Lin An didn't understand why the talisman reacted this way when it came into contact with Leng Lin. He had personally made health talismans and literary talismans, and had never encountered this situation before, nor had he experienced this reaction when he handed them over to Zhou Shengren. He began to look forward to seeing what kind of effect the talisman would have when it came into Leng Lin's hands.

"What are you spacing out for?" Leng Lin waved the talisman in front of Lin An's eyes.

Lin An snapped out of his daze: "Ah, it's nothing."

"Regretting it now? Are you reluctant to give it to me?"

"How could that be? Just put it under your pillow when you get home, and you'll usually feel the effects the next day," Lin An earnestly instructed.

Leng Lin chuckled: "Don't tell me you got first place in the country because of this."

"That's part of the reason." Lin An acknowledged the effectiveness of the Wenqu Talisman, but even without the talisman, he could still answer the questions correctly, only at a slightly different speed.

Leng Lin thought to herself, how could this thing possibly work? It's ridiculous. Its biggest effect is probably just a placebo effect.

However, seeing Lin An's serious expression, she suppressed the urge to complain. After all, Lin An was doing it for her own good, so she casually replied:

"Okay, I'll put it away when I get back."

Lin An found two more notebooks: "Take these two."

"Could these two be martial arts manuals used in conjunction with talismans?" Leng Lin teased with a smile.

As she spoke, she put two fingers together and mimicked the moves from ancient fantasy dramas, making a few gestures in front of her eyes before covering her mouth and laughing.

Lin An was amused by her: "Alright, this is for you to report back to. Don't tell your parents that you took a talisman from me."

Leng Lin nodded. She was quite shrewd when it came to interpersonal relationships. Who would want to be known as a charlatan when they could be a genius?

After seeing Leng Lin off, Lin An quickly went to check the bookshelf. He remembered that he had put the "Collection of Life Skills" back in that day, and he wanted to carefully check whether he had missed anything.

He quickly found the book. Lin An eagerly flipped through the pages, only to find them blank, without a single word. He flipped through the pages again, but they remained blank. He hurriedly flipped through the book once more, and all the words disappeared, leaving only the five large characters of the title on the cover: "Collection of Life Skills".

......

Inside the Lin family villa, the Lin family members were having dinner.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was extremely oppressive. The day had been long and humiliating. Lin Haoran sensed that the situation had reversed. In front of Lin An, he seemed to have lost the confidence to exercise his father's authority.

Lin Haoran's biggest worry was still his business. His confidence was backed by money. As long as his business grew bigger and bigger, countless people would rush to acknowledge him as their father. What was Lin An, who always wore a school uniform?

"Wanwan, you need to go to the factory tomorrow to discuss the baby lotion. You have three days to get the contract signed."

"Dad, I still suggest we be cautious. After all, these are products for infants and young children, so we can't be careless."

"Because it's an infant product, it commands a high premium. Parents are willing to pay as soon as they hear it's specifically for babies. We quickly seized the opportunity. Such a popular product, if someone else signs the deal first, we'll..."

The slurping sound interrupted Lin Haoran's speech.

He looked up and saw Lin Xia, whose face was swollen like a pig's head. Because her mouth was swollen, she could not eat and could only drink porridge with a straw. When the porridge bowl was empty, the straw sucked in air and made that sound.

Lin Haoran looked around at his family members. To his left, closest to him, was his eldest daughter who advised him to be cautious every day. To his right was his wife, Zhang Wanru, who always seemed to live a peaceful life. Then there was Lin Xia, who had beaten herself into a grotesque state. Next was Lin Rou, who knelt down and kowtowed in public to admit her mistakes. And then there was Lin Zhe, whose ability to shoulder great responsibilities was uncertain.

The family did produce a student who ranked first in the country, but unfortunately, they have severed ties with them. The worst part is that they didn't even bother to transfer Lin An's household registration from the orphanage before, so now it's hard to find a reason to control Lin An.

Lin Haoran grew angrier the more he thought about it, and anger welled up inside him: "I'm not eating anymore, I'm going out for some fresh air."

After saying that, he slammed down his chopsticks, got up, put on his coat, and walked out of the house.

The people at the table exchanged glances, and everyone tacitly chose to remain silent.

Zhang Wanru wanted to ask him where he was going so late, but after thinking for a few seconds, she chose to keep quiet.

The sound of a car starting could be heard outside the door; Lin Haoran hadn't returned home all night.

As for where he went, everyone knows the answer!
