Chapter 14: Time to visit the detention center, but no time to go home.

14

“Our lawyer met Ms. Jian Yu and her lawyer today. Because they arrived a little earlier, and because Cao Xiaomei lost control of her emotions after seeing them, the detention center refused our request to meet with her today. Even Cao Xiaomei’s family members were refused visitation.”

"It doesn't matter whether we meet her or not. Let the lawyer prepare the evidence. Cao Xiaomei must be punished to the fullest extent of the law."

Cao Xiaomei is in the detention center, and the number of times we can visit her is limited. The Cao family hasn't been able to take care of her for a while, and apart from asking a lawyer to visit her once, they haven't applied for a visit again since.

As the Spring Festival approached, the Cao family finally prepared to visit her, but because they submitted their application too late, it was scheduled for New Year's Eve.

Upon learning the news, Yu Hao also had his lawyer arrange a meeting at the last minute.

Unexpectedly, the last person to see Cao Xiaomei was Jian Yu.

You have time to visit people in the detention center, but no time to go home?

Yu Hao closed the folder. "It's not too busy today, you can go home early!"

The assistant thanked him happily and left.

After his assistant left, Yu Hao called Qi Yuexi and asked, "Has Jian Yu gone home?"

"No."

Judging from her voice, Qi Yuexi seemed to be in a good mood. "When are you coming back? Yu Ze and the others are waiting for you to set off fireworks."

Yu Hao glanced at his watch. "I'll go back now."

The traffic was terrible on the way back.

When Yu Hao arrived home, it was already dark. Yu Yao and Yu Ze were setting off fireworks. Qi Yuexi saw Yu Hao's car and went over to greet him, "Why are you so late? Was there traffic on the way?"

"The traffic jam is very long."

"I called Yu Yao and Yu Ze back to prepare dinner."

Yu Hao didn't allow it. "Let them play a little longer! We'll eat when they've had enough."

Yu Ze didn't go back inside until all the fireworks in the yard were set off. "I'll set off the rest at midnight."

Back inside, Yu Haoqi and Yuexi were video chatting with Yu Cheng. Yu Cheng greeted Yu Yao and Yu Ze and then hung up.

Yu Yao pouted in dissatisfaction, "Why did you hang up so quickly, big brother?"

"Your brother is in a different time zone, and he still has classes to attend!"

"Okay! Let's eat quickly! I'm starving." Yu Yao pulled Qi Yuexi to the dining table.

The family of four lived happily together.

Aunt Li sighed softly, and after a while, she walked to a corner, took out her phone, and sent a message to the security guard.

[Is Ms. Jian seen in the surveillance footage?]

The other party replied quickly: "No."

Aunt Li thought to herself, "Just as I expected," and quickly replied, "Yes! Happy New Year!"

I looked up and was so startled I almost threw my phone away.

Yu Yao was startled when she saw Aunt Li, and then smirked smugly, "I never realized you and Jian Yu were so close before?"

Aunt Li naturally understood the hidden meaning in Yu Yao's words. "Madam said that Miss Jian is coming back today. It's almost ten o'clock now, so I asked the gatekeeper."

Yu Yao nodded, "Then go and report to my mom!"

Aunt Li paused for a moment, then said, "It's almost time to pay New Year's visits, and Madam will be very busy, so I won't bother her."

Yu Yao then smiled with satisfaction, "Mom is indeed very tired. She's been busy with social obligations these past few days. She'll be making New Year's calls soon, and then she'll have to visit in person after dawn. I estimate she'll be busy for several days."

Aunt Li nodded in agreement, "Madam is indeed working very hard. I'll go make her a pot of hot tea."

After Aunt Li left, Yu Yao ran to the sofa and hugged Qi Yuexi from behind, saying, "Mom, I want a big red envelope later."

"Okay, okay, here you go." Qi Yuexi stroked Yu Yao's hair with her hand. "It used to be one million, but this year Mom will give you five million, okay?"

"Thank you, Mom! Mom is so good, Mom is the most loving mother in the world."

Yu Yao showered Qi Yuexi with compliments, making Qi Yuexi beam with joy. "Your dad's red envelope has to be doubled."

Wow! Thank you, Dad!

Yu Yao released Qi Yuexi and pounced on Yu Hao. Afraid of spilling the water in his hand on himself, Yu Hao quickly handed it to the maid next to him.

Seeing this, Yu Yao hugged Yu Hao even tighter.

Yu Ze quickly hugged Qi Yuexi and started to act coquettishly as well.

Qi Yuexi smiled and pulled him into her arms.

Bathed in the glow of fireworks, Jian Yu and two volunteers emerged from the orphanage, waving goodbye at the crossroads...

"Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year!"

Jian Yu also said, "Happy New Year!"

Back in her rented room, Jian Yu took out her phone. There were no missed calls or unread messages.

Her parents didn't start to dislike her later; they had been indifferent to her for a long time, or rather, she never had a place in their hearts.

Jian Yu intended to turn off her phone, but somehow she opened the photo album, which contained photos she had secretly taken when she first arrived at the Yu family home.

Yu Hao watching financial news, Qi Yuexi getting a beauty treatment, Yu Cheng drinking coffee, Yu Yao playing the piano, Yu Ze playing basketball, and Aunt Li secretly bringing her snacks...

Aunt Li was seen delivering snacks by Yu Yao, who then told Qi Yuexi. After Qi Yuexi found out, she forbade anyone from giving Jian Yu anything to eat.

Aunt Li must have been scolded a lot. After that, Jian Yu could clearly feel that Aunt Li was avoiding her.

It was only after Jian Yu arrived at the Yu family that he acquired his first electronic device.

After registering her first social media account, Jian Yu carefully held her phone and added her family members' accounts one by one.

Jian Yu didn't notice their perfunctory attitude at all and excitedly tried to chat with them, but no one replied for a long time.

Jian Yu thought they hadn't seen it, and after seeing Qi Yuexi, he even asked her if she had seen the message.

Qi Yuexi replied casually, "I saw it. I was wearing a face mask at the time."

You can even type and chat while wearing a face mask!

Jian Yu really wanted to say those words, but Qi Yuexi had already gone out shopping with her small handbag.

Jian Yu waited for half a day before meeting Yu Cheng.

Yu Cheng said he was busy with his studies and that it was already past midnight when he saw the message. He thought it was too late to reply so as not to disturb Jian Yu's sleep.

Jian Yu was quite touched by what he heard. The next day, he deliberately chose to send the message in the morning, thinking that he would see it during his lunch break.

However, Yu Cheng didn't reply until the evening, but even so, Jian Yu was still very happy.

Although Yu Ze's reply time was unpredictable, he was the only one who always responded.

Jian Yu remembered that Yu Ze stopped replying to her messages. It started when he inexplicably appeared in her room before he could give her the gift he had bought for a friend.

Yu Hao and Yu Yao never replied. Jian Yu didn't understand at first and often liked Yu Yao's posts on WeChat Moments.

After sending more than ten messages without receiving any reply, Jian Yu finally realized what was going on.

Even though she realized it, Jian Yu comforted herself, thinking that she was probably overthinking it.

Jian Yu tentatively posted her first message on WeChat Moments, expressing her joy at moving to her new home and her anticipation for the future.

As her family and friends, not a single person liked Jian Yu's post.

Jian Yu initially thought there was a problem with the account, but after investigating, she discovered that she couldn't see Yu Yao's Moments.

Yu Yao blocked her.

Yu Yao probably wouldn't even bother to look at her WeChat Moments.

Perhaps not only Yu Yao, but no one else was interested in clicking on it.

Not knowing what she wanted to prove, Jian Yu clicked into Qi Yuexi's Moments, found her latest post, and left a comment below.

Afterwards, Jian Yu deeply regretted his actions, wondering why he had gone to test the waters.

After Jian Yu commented, Qi Yuexi replied to someone else.

There were seven or eight replies, but Jianyu's was conspicuously missed.

The next day, Jian Yu had breakfast and was about to go to school when Qi Yuexi called him back.

Thinking that Qi Yuexi was trying to explain why she hadn't replied to her comment, Jian Yu couldn't help but feel a surge of joy, which naturally showed on her face.

Qi Yuexi's face darkened instantly. "In the future, spend less time on your phone. You're always liking Yu Yao's posts and even commented on mine yesterday. You should use that time to do some practice questions and try to get a few more points next time."

Jian Yu's smile froze on her lips, her eyes stung with tears, and she quickly lowered her head to hide her disappointment. "I understand."

"Good, but you're not allowed to play on your phone anymore. Your older brother said you text him during breaks, so don't bring it to school anymore. If I'd known you'd be so easily distracted by toys, I wouldn't have bought you a phone."

Qi Yuexi reached out her hand, but Jian Yu did not move.

Qi Yuexi said impatiently, "Hand over your phone."
