Chapter 330 Regret for Wasting My Youth

When the old lady saw Lu Jiao, she smiled kindly and said, "I made brown sugar shortbread, didn't you like to eat it before? I also made some plum wine, so I brought some for you."

Lu Jiao took the basket from her and took out the brown sugar shortbread and plum wine. He then greeted Xiao Xi, who had rushed out to watch the commotion, and Xiao Xi immediately put a new box of pastries inside.

The old lady hurriedly declined, but Lu Jiao insisted on stopping her.

Lu Jiao handed the basket to Liu Xi's mother, "Aunt Liu, please help take Grandma home! I still need to go upstairs to check on Jian Yu."

Aunt Liu readily nodded, took the basket, and helped the old lady back.

The old lady's eyes were slightly red. "I'm sorry to have troubled you."

"Not at all, Mr. Lu never asks us for nothing. By taking you home, we're not only strengthening our relationship, but I'll also get a tip. Don't refuse such a good deal."

The old lady glanced at Lu Jiao uncomfortably, "And a tip?"

Lu Jiao laughed and said, "No, Aunt Liu is just teasing you."

The old lady breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good, otherwise I wouldn't have dared to come."

After the old lady left, Lu Jiao gave the two bottles of plum wine to Xiao Xi, saying, "Give these to your father!"

He even handed some of the brown sugar cake to Xiaoxi, saying, "Let's eat together!"

Xiaoxi smiled happily, put the plum wine in the cupboard, and then picked up the brown sugar shortbread to go to the kitchen.

Just then, a boy who was a little over 1.7 meters tall walked in from outside. He saw Xiaoxi and ran over happily, handing her a bag of milk tea. "Xiaoxi, I brought you some bubble tea."

Xiao Xi paused, her expression somewhat forced. "No need, thank you! You can take it back and drink it yourself!"

"How can that be? This was bought for you."

Without saying a word, he shoved the milk tea into Xiaoxi's hand.

Xiaoxi was still holding a brown sugar pastry in her hand, and she couldn't break free from the boy's two hands with one hand.

Xiaoxi nodded helplessly, "Thank you."

I handed him the brown sugar shortbread and asked, "Would you like some?"

The boy looked at them and laughed, "Great! I'll take a few; they'll be perfect for dinner tonight."

I grabbed half of it without thinking.

Xiao Xi breathed a slight sigh of relief when she saw that Lu Jiao had already gone upstairs.

"You should go back now! Drive carefully."

The boy deliberately feigned reluctance, "Everyone says you're a great cook. When are you going to come over to my house and show off your skills?"

Xiaoxi chuckled twice, "I'm too busy at home, I don't have time."

“I just saw Aunt Liu outside. I’ll tell her to cook and give you the day off.”

Xiaoxi looked away. "You should go back now!"

The boy waved his hand, "I'll come find you again tomorrow."

Xiaoxi turned around and said, "I have something to do tomorrow, so don't come."

Boy: "What's up?"

Xiao Xi looked up at Jian Yu, "My guest wants me to help her familiarize herself with the road."

The boy followed Xiaoxi's gaze and saw Jian Yu. His eyes lit up. "I'll go with you!"

Xiao Xi panicked, "No need. The guests don't like too many people."

The boy was clearly disappointed and left reluctantly, saying, "Fine!"

Xiao Xi gave Jian Yu an apologetic smile.

Jian Yu shook his head slightly, indicating that he was alright.

Turning around and going inside, Lu Jiao followed, casually handing Jian Yu a brown sugar shortbread.

Jian Yu took it and saw that his hand was already empty.

Aren't you going to eat?

Lu Jiao shook his head, "I don't like sweets."

Jian Yu: "So what did the old lady say about you liking it?"

Mentioning this, Lu Jiao became depressed. "The old lady lived a life of luxury and only knew how to make this one dish. When my mother was alive, she gave me one. I hadn't eaten breakfast and was quite hungry, so I took it and ate one. Afterwards, she asked me if it was good. I just casually said it was good, but I didn't expect her to remember it. Now, every time she sees me, she makes a few brown sugar shortbreads and brings them to me."

"I thought you would be ruthless towards your stepfather's family."

Jian Yu took a bite of the pastry, found the taste strange, took out a tissue, wrapped the pastry in it, and threw it into the trash can.

Lu Jiao glanced at it and complained, "Picky eater."

Jian Yu also felt that her palate had been spoiled by the Huo family's chefs.

“The old couple treated my mother quite well. When my mother passed away unexpectedly, they even brought that woman to the funeral hall to apologize. Although it was for the sake of my mother’s unborn child, they at least gave my mother some dignity.”

If it weren't for the elderly couple's actions, the three of them would probably have been dealt an even worse fate by Lu Jiao.

Jian Yu was curious about their accommodation. "Where do they live now? In the factory, or in their old house?"

"In the factory dormitory, the family of three lived in two rooms."

"That's good. If something happens at the factory, we can keep an eye on each other."

Jian Yu thought for a moment, then asked, "Won't they be bullied by the people at the factory?"

Lu Jiao: "No, I've already told the factory manager to take care of them."

After a while, Xiaoxi came upstairs to bring dinner, six dishes and a soup.

The portions were huge; the two of them couldn't possibly finish it. As Xiao Xi left, she kept stealing glances at Lu Jiao.

Lu Jiao didn't even look up.

When Xiaoxi reached the door, she slumped her shoulders slightly and gripped the tray tightly with both hands.

After she closed the door, Jian Yu glanced at Lu Jiao and said, "It's true what they say, 'The falling flower is willing, but the flowing water is indifferent.'"

Lu Jiao looked completely bewildered. "Why are you being so gossipy? The boy didn't say anything about Xiao Xi."

Jian Yu's lips twitched. "Heh."

Lu Jiao reached out and touched Jian Yu's forehead. "It's not hot, so why is it acting so strange?"

Jian Yu removed his hand. "Judging from your appearance, you don't seem like you're married. Are you single?"

Lu Jiao looked Jian Yu up and down. "Don't you already have Huo Qizhen? Why are you still interested in me?"

Jianyu, “…”

I'm not interested in you.

"If you're not interested, why are you asking me if I'm single? You need to understand that I'm a grown man. You're asking a grown man this question, and I'm not allowed to think about it?"

"If you don't plan to end your single life, then don't stay here anymore."

If Xiaoxi doesn't see Lu Jiao for a long time, her feelings will gradually fade.

Otherwise, with such a young and handsome man hovering around in front of her, Xiaoxi wouldn't be able to take her eyes off him.

Xiaoxi is young now and doesn't feel anything, but in a few years when she comes to her senses, I wonder if she will regret wasting her youth?

"You're being nosy."

She picked up a plate of mushrooms for Jian Yu and said, "Eat up! Don't worry about Xiao Xi. This guy isn't suitable. There are other blind dates you can meet."

"I wasn't talking about this boy."

Lu Jiao nodded, "It's impossible between Xiao Xi and me."

Jian Yu asked in surprise, "You knew she was interested in you?"

Lu Jiao replied irritably, "I'm not blind. How could I not see those eager eyes?"

Jian Yu: "Then why are you still living here?"

"Why can't I live here? Xiaoxi cooks well, so of course I can't let my taste buds suffer. Besides, it's not like I personally deliver the ingredients every time. I only come twice a year. Their family knows that there's no future for me and Xiaoxi. Even if Xiaoxi has feelings for me, they won't let her waste her time on me if they don't see any hope for several years. Since last year, they've been arranging blind dates for her."

Jian Yu seemed to understand the sadness in Xiao Xi's eyes.

Putting aside anything else, just in terms of appearance, her blind date was definitely not as outstanding as Lu Jiao.

Having seen Lu Jiao, and then taking a closer look at the person he kidnapped, it was somewhat cruel to Xiao Xi.
