Chapter 2 Inner Sect Assessment

A sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy dressed in black rubbed his head and looked around fiercely.

"Who is it? They dare to hit me!"

Looking at her cousin, who was jumping around in anger, Li Mingke weakly spoke up, "Um... Jingyuan, I accidentally..."

"Accident? I'll do an accident to you too! Wait... cousin?"

Upon seeing Li Mingke, Wang Jingyuan's expression instantly changed. He fawned over her like a lackey, making no mention of being accidentally injured.

"Little brother, I've been waiting for you for a long time. Auntie said I should accompany you during the assessment. Brother, don't be nervous, the inner court assessment is easy." Wang Jingyuan chuckled.

Li Mingke's eye twitched.

You're so talented, you easily entered the inner courtyard and became a disciple of a master. Don't think everyone is like you! There are countless people who want to enter the inner courtyard, but how many actually succeed?

"I don't need you to come with me. You can do whatever you want. I can manage on my own."

"No, that won't do. My aunt specifically told me that if I don't go with you, even if she doesn't say anything, my dad will beat me to death." Wang Jingyuan put on a pitiful, pleading expression.

“…Alright!” Li Mingke couldn’t persuade him otherwise, so she had to agree.

Sure enough, when the two of them arrived at the assessment location, it was already packed with people.

"Make way, make way!" Wang Jingyuan pulled Li Mingke through the dense crowd.

"Who is it? Everyone here is here for the assessment. Why should we let you have it!" someone complained, but after seeing the inner court disciple's badge on Wang Jingyuan's waist, their voice immediately softened. "So you're an inner court brother or sister. Please come over."

Ah, it's so nice to be in the inner court!

Li Mingke and Wang Jingyuan arrived at the assessment location set by Jinyun Immortal Venerable.

"Is it because Immortal Venerable Jinyun has never accepted any disciples that so many people come to him for assessment?" Wang Jingyuan pursed his lips.

"Although Immortal Venerable Jinyun is currently the strongest in the immortal sect, he shouldn't be this popular, especially since everyone knows what happened before. Maybe he's just a seemingly venerable immortal with a dark and wicked heart..."

“Be careful what you say, Jingyuan.” Li Mingke stopped him in time. “If this gets to the ears of Immortal Venerable Jinyun, and he gets really angry, even a hundred Fengyu Towers might not be able to protect you.”

Wang Jingyuan is the only son of the owner of Fengyulou. Fengyulou is in the business of information and has connections with both the martial arts world and ordinary people. However, in the face of absolute power, Li Mingke does not believe that these relationships can be relied upon.

Wang Jingyuan fell silent.

"That's right, I didn't say anything wrong..."

The incident he mentioned about the Immortal Venerable Jinyun was about Fairy Banjian. Fairy Banjian was his fiancée, who had given him half her life, only to be abandoned. This incident was so sensational that it became common knowledge among those who cultivated immortality.

At this point, a notification will appear indicating that the assessment can begin.

Li Mingke handed her identification badge to one of the staff members, who checked it and then let her in.

"Brother, keep going! Believe in yourself, you can do it!" Wang Jingyuan shouted while waving, attracting the attention of everyone around him.

Li Mingke sighed, thinking to herself that her cousin was far too lively. She waved to Wang Jingyuan and then went to take the test without looking back.

Each inner sect immortal can set their own assessment criteria, while Jinyun immortal set three levels:

Baiyu Book

Slaying Ghosts Gate

Xuanfang Mirror.

The first test, the White Jade Book, assesses the disciples' theoretical knowledge. The book contains 100 randomly arranged questions, and passing the test requires answering them correctly within the allotted time.

The second gate, the Gate of Demon Slaying, tests the disciple's own strength. There is an evil ghost inside the gate; slaying it will allow the disciple to pass the test.

The third mirror, the rotating square mirror, is the most wondrous. It is said to be able to reveal a person's true appearance, and no one can hide anything in front of it.

Looking at the three test questions, Li Mingke felt that apart from the second one being a little difficult, the others were relatively easy. However, she was afraid that looking in the mirror would expose her disguise as a man in the third one.

But then she thought about it again. With the strength of Immortal Venerable Jinyun, it was probably only a matter of time before he was discovered. She could just explain it properly then.

So she took a deep breath and officially began the assessment.

Upon entering the first level, a large book appeared in front of Li Mingke. She saw a small table not far away, so she sat down next to it. The book naturally fell onto the table, and then a pen appeared. She picked up the pen, and the book, which had been blank, immediately displayed a title.

She looked at it and saw that it wasn't difficult, so she picked up her pen and began to write.

Because she wasn't good at cultivation, she devoted more time to reading. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say she was well-read, so the first hurdle was a piece of cake for her.

After finishing the last question, she put down her pen and closed the book. She stretched, stood up, and the scenery around her changed. The small desk and pen were gone, and a door appeared in front of her.

The door was pitch black; I had no idea what was hidden behind it.

She touched the dagger in her bosom, then made up her mind and pushed open the Demon-Slaying Gate in front of her.

As soon as she closed the door, a three-meter-tall demon pounced on her. She quickly drew a dagger from her bosom and stabbed at the demon.

She didn't know any magic, but she had been doing physical training, so she could only use a dagger to fight this evil spirit.

After an unknown amount of time, the evil spirit was finally defeated and fell to the ground, turning into a handful of dust in front of her and gradually dissipating.

She was so exhausted that she collapsed to the ground, her clothes soaked with sweat, and she was panting heavily.

Indeed, more rigorous training is needed; this is far from enough...

Li Mingke thought to himself as he rubbed his heaving chest.

After resting for a while and her breathing gradually calmed down, she stood up again.

Then, the same dark door that she had come through appeared before her.

Could there be an even bigger and stronger evil spirit behind the door?

She hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward and opened it.

Thankfully, that's not the case.

She patted her chest, relieved.

What appeared before her was a mirror as tall as a person.

She walked up and stood in front of the mirror.

There was nothing there; she could only see her own reflection.

She touched her face, and the person in the mirror touched their face too. She shook her head, and the person in the mirror shook their head too.

Do we need to make contact?

She stretched out her right palm and placed it on the mirror. To her surprise, her palm passed right through the mirror!

Do I have to walk into the mirror?

She took a step, and her foot went through the mirror.

She simply stepped entirely into the mirror.

But in the mirror she couldn't see, her appearance changed.

All male disguises had disappeared, a vermilion dot appeared on his forehead, and his eyes had become exquisite eyes.

At the very moment this change occurred, thousands of miles away, Demon Lord Luan Hua, who had been listening to his subordinates' reports with his eyes closed, suddenly opened his eyes, his pupils trembling.

"My wife has finally seen me again... After seventeen years, you've finally agreed to see me! This time, I'm determined to find you!"

Ignoring his still-talking subordinates, he rushed out of the main hall like the wind, heading towards the direction of the immortal sect.
