He Xun leaned over the door, peering intently through the crack.
Li Mingke chuckled, "Ah Xun, don't let them find out."
He Xun made a "shh" gesture to her, then continued to press his face against the door.
In the open space outside, Immortal Jinyun and Yimo stood side by side.
“Over the years, you…” Jinyun hesitated for a long time before speaking.
Yi Mo tossed her hair, seemingly unconcerned, and said, "I'm much happier than before." She also asked him, "So, are you doing well in the immortal sect?"
Jinyun Immortal Venerable looked towards the half-closed door behind him. "Ruyi..." he smiled slightly, "is fine."
Yi Mo put her arm around his shoulder with great interest. "Oh~ I know. Although we've never met, I've heard about your little fiancée. Sigh, if that hadn't happened, we might have been able to hang out together!"
When Lin Banjian was mentioned, Immortal Venerable Jinyun showed a gentle expression, "She will like you very much."
Seeing the two so intimate, He Xun felt indignant. "Ming Ke, look! I told you their relationship was unusual. They're even arm in arm now!"
"Oh." Li Mingke crossed his legs, his eyes fixed on the county gazetteer in his hand.
"How can you not care at all!" He Xun quickly covered her eyes. "Don't look anymore!"
Li Mingke helplessly lowered her hand, "What happens between them has nothing to do with us!"
"How can it be unrelated!" He Xun stamped his foot. "Immortal Venerable Jinyun is you..."
Li Mingke's previously calm gaze immediately turned sharp.
He Xun couldn't continue, "Ahaha, it really has nothing to do with each other..."
She immediately deflated and quickly lay back down on the bed.
Li Mingke sighed.
When Jinyun Immortal and Yimo entered, they sensed an unusual quiet.
"Hey? Has Xiao Xun's illness worsened again?" Yi Mo asked, seeing He Xun lying in bed.
"It's alright, she's not feeling well, she'll rest for a while," Li Mingke explained.
He Xun wasn't actually asleep, but she didn't want to open her eyes, so she pretended to be asleep.
Jinyun Immortal Venerable could see that He Xun's eyelashes were trembling, but he didn't expose her. He glanced at her and turned to Yi Mo, saying, "Yi Mo, take care of He Banjian. Ming Ke, come out with me for a moment."
Yi Mo nodded, but Li Mingke instantly became wary.
"We only exchanged a few words before He Banjian fell asleep; it wasn't convenient for him to be in the room."
Li Mingke had no choice but to go out with him.
She followed silently behind him.
"Thank you for your hard work," Jinyun said as she walked.
“Serving the country and the people is nothing hard,” Li Mingke said, his eyes half-closed.
“You don’t need to do these things, Mingke.”
Li Mingke's calm mood was instantly shattered by his words, "If I don't do it, and no one else does it, who will? You?"
A surge of anger rose within her.
"I don't want to be the kind of person who has the ability but chooses to run away and watch others suffer!"
Jinyun Immortal's voice was deep, "You are blaming me, Mingke."
"How could I dare!"
She looked straight ahead, "The Immortal Venerable is like the moon in the clouds, naturally hanging high above, untouched by the mortal world!"
She took two steps behind him, stopped, and he stopped as well.
"Immortal Venerable should return to the Immortal Sect. This is not a place for you."
Jinyun Immortal looked at her silently, "Mingke, do you know why I came?"
Li Mingke didn't move, neither nodding nor shaking his head.
Jinyun Immortal Venerable reached out, trying to wipe away the fierce look on her face.
“I came because of you, Mingke.” His voice was like smoke, “I heard that Yao Nu was sick and thought something had happened to you, so I rushed here without stopping.”
"So you expect me to be grateful?" Li Mingke looked up and met his dark eyes. "This is the path I chose, and I will walk it no matter what. Even if I get sick, or even if I die, I will have no regrets!"
"Mingke!" Immortal Venerable Jinyun interrupted her, "Don't say such things..."
He held her tightly in his arms, trembling. "You won't die..."
Li Mingke struggled to break free from his embrace, "I'll try!"
She still told him to go back, saying, "Immortal Venerable, you shouldn't have come here."
“I know you don’t want to see me, but… never mind.” He stroked her head as he always did. “It will all be over soon, and then, we…”
"What ends?" Li Mingke caught this crucial question.
"You don't need to know. Just continue on the path you've chosen, and I'll take care of the rest."
Li Mingke wanted to ask more, but Jinyun Immortal Venerable just smiled and refused to say anything.
When the Immortal Venerable Jinyun was about to leave, Yimo saw him off.
"Yimo, she's still a child, please take care of her."
Yi Mo laughed and said, "In Jin Yun's eyes, she will probably never grow up."
She shrugged. "But I can't stay by their side for long, after all..." She smiled, revealing her pearly teeth, "After lying low for so long, it's finally my turn to make my move!" She patted Jinyun Immortal Venerable's shoulder. "If we meet again, we'll be enemies!"
She suddenly leaned close to his ear and said, "When the time comes, don't forget to give me a back door!"
Jinyun Immortal Venerable nodded in agreement, "Of course."
From He Xun's perspective, the two were too intimate, which made her so angry that she bit her handkerchief tightly. When she turned her head, she saw Li Mingke staring blankly at the sky, so she spat the handkerchief out of her mouth.
The person in question didn't even react. Isn't she being incredibly foolish?
