Chapter 17: Jade Rabbit visits the boys' room at night and all three of them fall ill
There is almost no sunlight on weekdays. A pair of strong long legs, whiter than the face and rosy from being soaked in the water, stepped on the gray-white stone ground by the pool, causing a wave of water.
The water splashed onto Alice's originally dry and fluffy white fur. Her slightly wet nose felt a little itchy and she sneezed unconsciously.
She moved her lips, held back the words, and jumped up to punish him.
Unexpectedly, the man's skin, which had been soaked for a long time, became slippery with the hot spring water. She misjudged her strength, and her claws slipped, and she was about to slip from the man's chest into the hot spring water.
No way! She really doesn't like getting wet, especially in her original form.
She used a little more force in her claws and finally stopped the downward trend, barely hanging on the man's chest.
Alice sighed.
The man groaned.
She turned her head back to look at the hot spring bath, and saw two bloodstains of medium depth on her pinkish-white chest. Blood beads rolled across her smooth skin and dripped onto her furry white paws, staining a small tuft of white hair red.
She raised a paw and shook it off in disgust, forgetting for a moment that she was relying on her paw to stabilize her body and was about to slip again.
An arm, still warm from the hot spring, caught her.
Alice was somewhat satisfied, and could barely consider that he had made amends.
But she was also somewhat dissatisfied with the water stains on her arms that had wet her beautiful white fur. Alice jumped onto his relatively dry left shoulder, kicked off with her legs, and with a strength that an ordinary rabbit would never have, pushed him into the hot spring pool and gave him a thorough bath, letting him feel the wet fur.
She jumped onto the bathrobe, rolled over, and carefully wiped the fur all over her body, especially the part of her paw that was stained red.
The man who was kicked into the water emerged, wiped the water off his face, and looked at the pair of red rabbit eyes with a confused look.
It was only when I saw her carefully wiping the water that I understood.
"Why can't you get any water on me?" The man's deep voice seemed to be soaked in hot spring water, becoming softer and more helpless. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten any water on you. Mr. or Miss Rabbit?"
The white rabbit nodded humanely, indicating that she forgave him.
The man got up from the pool again and went to the locker room to get the only clean towel prepared for the guests. Without bothering to dry himself, he spread it out on the chair he had moved to the courtyard at the same time, then looked at Bai Tu and motioned her to come over.
Alice was pleased with his performance. There was even a hint of a smile on the rabbit's face.
She shook off the water on her body and jumped lightly onto the towel prepared by the man.
After she stood on it, the man pinched the two corners and began to wipe the white rabbit's fur.
After serving her and confirming that she was satisfied, he said, "Okay, you won't be angry with me now, right?" There was an obvious smile in his tone.
Alice estimated that the time was about up, so she jumped over the wall and slipped back into her own yard.
After the man saw the rabbit leave, he picked up the half-wet towel he had just used and casually wiped the water off his body and hair.
Everyone was very satisfied with the hot spring trip.
But unexpectedly or not, three people fell ill.
Looking at Jane who looked a little listless in the bed, Alice sighed and touched her forehead which was hotter than normal people's.
Who would have thought that Jane and Mr. Bingley, two good-natured people, could not resist the staff's sales pitch and tried the hot spring water artificial shower treatment that Cross Bath Baths had launched to save its business. The wet towels stuck to their bodies and the cold winter wind would definitely catch a cold. As a result, they both caught a cold and fell ill.
Everyone in the villa slept all morning to catch up on their sleep, but she didn't take it seriously until Jane and Mr. Bingley didn't get up for lunch and then she realized they were sick.
Alice sighed again and decided to go out and look for a more reliable ready-made pharmacy or herbal medicine shop in the town.
As I was about to leave the house, I remembered that the old Countess of Camden next door had been recuperating here all year round. She should know the best doctors or pharmacies in Bath, so I decided to go and ask about the situation.
Unexpectedly, before learning the whereabouts of the treatment drugs, we learned that Mr. Moran had also caught a cold and fell ill.
"Ah, Ed hasn't been sick for a long time. He looks a little pitiful now." The old countess sighed, "He doesn't have many friends here. You young people should come and see him more often when you have time. It would be nice to have a few words with him."
Alice felt a little guilty, as if, maybe, she was the one who made the person sick.
He readily agreed to visit the patient and said that he would give him a portion as soon as he found or made good medicine.
After bidding farewell to the old countess, she followed the advice of the housekeeper of the Camden family's holiday villa and found a shop selling herbal medicine.
Most of the tourists here come for treatment, and whether it's just for publicity or to truly cure the patient and attract more travelers, medicinal herbs are indispensable. Therefore, Alice found a variety of medicines in the herbal medicine shop here, and was able to put together a prescription that was just right for her symptoms.
Based on the third round of the therapeutic decoction competition, the original prescription of Scutellaria baicalensis and Cassia twig was replaced with two or three new herbs such as Tangerine peel and Saposhnikovia divaricata, according to the herbs available here [1].
After doing all this, the sun went down. In the UK, it gets dark very early in the winter, and it is basically dark around 4pm.
She carried the medicine back to the villa and used the same trick to drive the servants out of the kitchen, creating the illusion that she was honestly making Chinese medicine, which earned her comment from Miss Bentley: "Miss Alice really never misses any opportunity to show off her skills."
Alice transformed all the herbs she found into spiritual fluid, then directed the jade pestle to transform the spiritual fluid into easy-to-swallow pills as desired, and the medicine was ready. She deliberately controlled the production time to make the pills appear reasonable.
This time, three bottles were made. One was given to Miss Bingley, who was told to take care of her brother. Another was handed to the temporary housekeeper, who was told to rush to the next door before they went to bed. Alice took the remaining bottle upstairs and reentered Jane's room.
Jane had already eaten some food, so she helped her lean against the bed and asked her to take a freshly prepared medicine with warm water.
There are nine pills in the bottle. Take one pill at a time, three times a day. No matter how serious your cold is, you will be completely cured in three days.
Alice helped the groggy Jane lie down to rest, tucked in the quilt for her, and then returned to her room.
Her room was right next to Adrian Moran's. She had deliberately chosen the one closest to the next door, but the gentleman had the one furthest to the left, so the bedrooms were connected.
This most expensive property in Bath was patrolled by guards at night, and climbing over the wall would have been too conspicuous, so Alice simply changed back into her original form and, with a light leap, she had already jumped into the next room before the guards could see her.
Alice stepped on the wool carpet without making a sound. In the dim night, she could see the bottle of medicine she had given her and a bowl of water by the bed.
She jumped onto the soft bed and looked carefully at the man in front of her.
The man closed his eyes and looked obedient.
His breathing was a little heavy, like after a cold, and he coughed from time to time, causing the bed to tremble slightly.
Alice reached out her claws and touched the man's forehead. He still had a slight fever.
The person who thought she was soundly asleep and unconscious suddenly reached out and pressed her paw.
"Miss Alice." It was the man's soft whisper.
The lady, who thought she was found out, was a little upset.
How could he know? It was impossible. Alice was puzzled, but she wasn't panicked. After all, who could believe that a young lady who grew up in a gentleman's family could be a rabbit? It would have been more believable to say it was a made-up bedtime fairy tale.
The rabbit moved its head closer to Adrian Moran, trying to get a better look.
The man showed no signs of waking up, his breathing was still even, and his warm breath sprayed on her furry face. She couldn't help but sneeze again.
A few extra-long eyelashes on his eyelids touched the man's cheek. His tightly closed eyes blinked gently a few times and slowly opened a crack.
Adrian Moran opened his sleepy eyes and vaguely saw a rabbit-like creature. He rubbed the furry paws in his hands and felt the unusually real touch.
He thought it was an illusion, still in a dream, and gently held the furry paw in his palm and rubbed it on his forehead, as if actively asking the other party to touch his head.
Alice followed suit and touched him extensively, even kneading his thick, soft blond hair. It was just as she had imagined, with a satin texture and very pleasant to touch.
After stroking Mr. Moran, she was satisfied and ready to leave.
But a hand took it away...
