Chapter 122: Find an official if you have any problems
Breaking into a private house?
The leading officer looked at the beggar kneeling and crying in front of him, then looked at the girl holding the fire poker, and a look of suspicion appeared on his face for a moment.
The middle-aged beggar, of course, denied the accusation. He stood up and said, "Young lady, please don't talk nonsense. We are all homeless and pitiful people. We have been kneeling down to beg you to take us in. How dare we break into someone's house!"
Lin Hao turned to the side and pointed to the door: "Then why are they in the yard?"
When everyone looked closely, they saw a few dark-skinned beggars mixed in with a group of children in the yard. Their messy hair and tattered clothes made them stand out like a chicken among a crowd of cranes.
Perhaps they were so focused on watching the fun that they didn't realize that the fun would also happen to them. The beggars had dazed expressions, each holding a half-eaten roast chicken in their hands.
This strange scene made everyone forget to react for a moment, and the scene became quiet in an instant.
At that moment, a boy of six or seven burst into tears, pointing at the beggars and complaining, "Not only did they break into our house, they also stole the roast chicken we were going to eat tonight!"
The middle-aged beggar's face changed drastically and he rushed inside.
It’s bad enough that a few idiots forgot to come out, but why did they eat roast chicken!
A black fire stick was placed in front of him.
"Officer, he tried to break into a private house right in front of you!" Lin Hao complained angrily.
The leading officer said sullenly, "In that case, follow us back to the yamen."
The middle-aged beggar knelt hurriedly in front of the leading officer and said, "It's unfair! The untouchables just wanted to call them out, not break into people's houses!"
The leading officer certainly didn't think that the beggar leader would dare to act recklessly in front of him, but how could he explain to those people who were eating roast chicken inside?
More importantly, he suddenly remembered the identity of this familiar-looking girl: she was the second daughter of the general's mansion!
In the spring, the Lin and Wen families went to court and were sentenced to divorce, with Mrs. Lin and her two daughters both dying. It was rare for a wealthy couple to quarrel like this, so he was inevitably impressed.
Although he didn't know what was going on between Miss Lin Er and the beggar, why not do her a favor?
"What about them? If they weren't breaking into someone's house, why would they be in someone else's yard?"
"They also stole our roast chicken..." the boy added crying.
"Breaking into a private house and robbing is an aggravated crime. Take him away!"
With a wave of his hand from the leading officer, several yamen runners gathered around and looked at the group of beggars, feeling at a loss as to where to start.
"Boss, are we taking them all away?" one of them asked hesitantly.
It’s not cost-effective to take so many beggars back and feed them all.
The leading officer was reminded and subconsciously looked at Lin Hao.
Lin Hao smiled considerately: "Officer, please take away the people who broke into the house and the leader. I think the others have been bewitched."
When the other beggars heard this, they hurriedly said, "Yes, yes, we were bewitched!"
It doesn't matter if you get beaten and scolded for joining in the trouble, but who wants to go to jail?
It would be easy if we just took these few people away. Two yamen runners immediately held down the middle-aged beggar.
The middle-aged beggar cried out in injustice: "Officer, they accidentally fell in when they were knocking on the door, they were not breaking into the house!"
"Where are the roast chickens in their hands? Were they also treated to them?" The leading officer sneered.
The middle-aged beggar paused, feeling anxious and confused.
Just when he was desperately trying to fight, those idiots actually had the time to grab the roast chicken?
In this moment of distraction, the middle-aged beggar was dragged forward by the yamen runners, and the onlookers hurriedly made way for him.
"Officer, please listen to my explanation, please listen to my explanation--" The middle-aged beggar's heart-wrenching cry became farther and farther away.
The beggars were also escorted out by the yamen runners. One of them mustered up the courage to say to the leading officer, "Sir, if I say that the roast chicken was given to us by that kid, would you believe it?"
Before he could finish his words, he was kicked by the leading officer: "Get out!"
As the bailiff took the beggar away, the onlookers followed at a distance out of curiosity.
The leading officer who fell behind lowered his voice: "Miss Lin, it's chaotic outside, please go back home early."
Since he is doing a favor, of course he wants the other party to know that he is aware of her identity.
Lin Hao smiled slightly after hearing this and said, "Sir, you have done your job impartially and helped the people. My family will definitely express their gratitude on my behalf when I get back."
The leading officer was very satisfied with Lin Hao's understanding.
What this means is that you appreciate his kindness and there will be a thank you gift in return.
Being able to become a small leader among the yamen runners, he must be knowledgeable and sensible. The leading officer immediately decided that how long to lock up those beggars would depend on Miss Lin Er's opinion.
"Miss Lin, you're too polite. Maintaining public order is our responsibility."
As soon as the leading officer left, the beggars who were not taken away immediately scattered like birds and beasts, and the area in front of Lin's house was soon empty.
Ah Xing reached out to close the door and walked to Lin Hao.
"What happened just now?"
"I asked Baozhu to report it to the authorities." Lin Hao said seriously, "If you have any problems, you must find the police."
Ah Xing's mouth twitched violently. It was difficult for him to refute this in front of so many children, so he asked about the roast chicken.
The boy still had tears in his eyes: "Those people really took it on their own initiative."
He just listened to Miss Lin's words and stood next to the beggars with the roast chicken in his hand, and they reached out to take it.
His heart broke as he watched the dirty hands take away the plump roast chickens one by one, and the tray was empty in the blink of an eye.
After entering the house and there was no one around, Ah Xing's burning eyes fell on Lin Hao's face.
Lin Hao looked puzzled: "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Ah Xing didn't say anything for a moment.
He thought Ah Hao was a silly girl who was ignorant of the world, kind-hearted and rich. Now it seems that he was short-sighted.
Her kindness depends on the person.
This discovery made Ah Xing even happier.
"I didn't expect that those scoundrels who were like dog-skin plasters could be solved as soon as you came." Ah Xing sighed.
Lin Hao held the cup and smiled, as if he had been staying in the house leisurely drinking tea. "I told you, if you have any difficulties, just find the officials. We are ordinary people who are powerless, how can we confront these scoundrels head-on?"
Ah Xing was silent.
Who among the common people would look for the police for no reason? They would even try to hide from them.
"Those troublemakers will probably be locked up until next spring. Those beggars probably won't dare to bother them again this winter."
"Next spring?"
Lin Hao smiled and said, "There's a cell to protect us from the wind and snow, and we also provide food. At least we can spend the winter safely."
Ah Xing was silent.
Why do I suddenly feel that those scoundrels made a profit?
"Do you want to go home together?" Lin Hao stood up.
Ah Xing shook his head: "You go back first, I'll finish my work here and then come back."
Lin Hao took Baozhu away and met Qi Qiong on the way back.
"Ah Hao, where have you been? I asked your family when I left home, and they said you had left a long time ago."
"A friend asked me out."
Qi Qiong didn't ask who the friend was. He took Lin Hao's hand and said with a smile, "Ah Hao, why don't you just wait until you have dinner before going back? I know a good place for mutton hotpot."
