Chapter 2 Family

Chapter 2 Family

Wen Hao was in a state of confusion and was taken back to the general's mansion by Wen Chan.

The General's Mansion is adjacent to Prince Jing's Mansion, so returning here is much more convenient than returning to the Wen Mansion.

After hearing the report, the old lady came out and said, "Ah Hao, I heard you hurt your foot?"

Wen Hao looked at the anxious old lady, tears streaming down her face: "Grandma——"

This shout shocked everyone.

The old lady was stunned for a moment before hugging Wen Hao. Her trembling hands touched her hair and then her face, thinking she was dreaming: "Ah Hao, Ah Hao——"

Wen Hao's inability to speak has always been a burden on the hearts of her loving elders.

"Grandma, I can speak now." Wen Hao smiled with tears in his eyes, and his eyes were reluctant to leave the old lady for a moment.

It was great to see my grandmother again, but as things would have turned out, she would have passed away not long after.

He was mad at his father to death.

"Chan'er, do your parents know that Ah Hao can speak now? Oh, didn't you go to Prince Jing's Mansion with your mother today?" The old lady was overjoyed, but then she realized, "Isn't Ah Hao in our mansion? How did you come back from outside together?"

Wen Chan glanced at her younger sister who was staring at her grandmother intently, and said helplessly, "My second sister climbed over the wall."

The old lady was stunned for only a moment before she smiled. She looked at Wen Hao with eyes full of love and affection: "Ah Hao, your naughty nature is mine."

Wen Chan twitched her lips slightly.

She knew her grandmother would react like this, so she told the truth directly.

Wen Hao reached out and gently pulled the old lady's sleeve.

"Ah Hao, what's wrong?" The old lady looked at her granddaughter, unable to hide the joy in the corners of her eyes and eyebrows.

To her, whether Ah Hao could speak or not, she was still her beloved granddaughter, but for Ah Hao, it would be a completely different life.

Her Ah Hao, who was obviously beautiful and well-behaved, suffered so much injustice because she could not speak.

"Grandma, I seem to be in trouble."

"What trouble?" The old lady thought of Wen Chan's words and smiled indifferently, "Oh, about climbing over the wall? That's no big deal. You climbed over it when you were a child."

The General's Mansion was originally the Duke's Mansion. Although General Lin, who followed Taizu to conquer the world, was not as noble as a prince in terms of status, few princes could compare with him in terms of actual power and status in Taizu's heart.

Later, Taizu passed away and the weak-willed Emperor Pingle succeeded him. Facing the invasion of Qi, he retreated again and again, paid compensation and ceded land, and lost ten cities in just two years.

General Lin had a fiery temper. Every time he cursed the emperor, he would be demoted one rank. He cursed so much that he ended up calling the Duke's Mansion the General's Mansion. Perhaps because of the late emperor's lingering influence, the emperor didn't force the Lin family to move out of the Duke's Mansion; he simply replaced the door plaque.

Later, Emperor Pingle's younger brother, Prince An, attacked the capital. Emperor Pingle disappeared in the chaos. Prince An ascended the throne and changed the reign title to Tai'an.

Emperor Tai'an wanted to re-confer the title of Duke on General Lin, but General Lin was heartbroken by Emperor Pingle's weakness towards foreign countries, and also disliked Emperor Tai'an's dishonorable means of succession, so he resolutely refused to accept it.

"I fell in front of Prince Jing, and was seen by the young princess and others."

The old lady raised her eyebrows when she heard this, and took Wen Hao into her arms, comforting her, "That's okay. Ah Hao, remember, rumors are just a gust of wind. As long as the people who love you don't care, they will disappear in the blink of an eye."

"I remember." Wen Hao snuggled up to his grandmother and sighed in his heart.

The people who loved her really didn't care, but soon those who loved her died or went crazy, and the remaining people who didn't love her wanted to push her into the fire pit.

At this time, a female doctor came in carrying a medicine box.

The old lady pointed at Wen Hao and said, "Quickly show the second young lady her feet."

Wen Hao's ankle was bruised, but fortunately the bones were not broken. The doctor wrapped an ice cube in a soft towel and applied it to her.

Wen Chan felt distressed and couldn't help but scold: "Not only did you twist your ankle, but you also bit your hand. What if you get a scar?"

Wen Hao looked at her elder sister who was carefully applying ointment to her and said with a smile, "I found out I could talk now. I thought I was dreaming."

Wen Chan paused and lowered her eyes to hide her tears.

My sister finally got her happy ending after all the suffering she had endured.

After the female doctor finished her treatment and left, a beautiful woman with a high bun on her hair hurried in through the curtain.

"I guess Chan'er brought Ah Hao to mother's place." Lin came to the old lady like the wind and looked at Wen Hao nervously, "Ah Hao, are you okay?"

She was chatting and laughing with a group of noble ladies accompanying Princess Jing when a maid in the palace whispered to her about her youngest daughter.

But the maid didn't say much, which scared her half to death.

Wen Hao looked at Lin and didn't say anything for a while.

Lin looked at her eldest daughter, who was smiling, and then at her mother, who was also looking happy, with a puzzled look on her face: "What's wrong?"

"Mom——" Wen Hao called out crisply.

Lin was stunned and stared at Wen Hao: "Ah Hao?"

Before Wen Hao could speak, he raised his hand and pinched his cheek hard.

The old lady couldn't stop him and said angrily, "You two are really mother and daughter."

Lin's lips trembled with excitement. Even though her cheeks hurt, she couldn't believe it: "Ah Hao, call me mother again."

"Mom." Wen Hao choked.

Lin hugged Wen Hao and couldn't control her tears.

The old lady wiped her tears and said with a smile, "Hurry up and tell your son-in-law about this great news."

When Wen Hao heard this, his eyes turned cold.

Yes, at this time, my father was still a good son-in-law in the eyes of my grandmother and a good husband in the eyes of my mother.

Wen Hao broke free from Lin's arms: "Mom, let's go back home first."

"Okay, your foot is injured, so just stay here and recuperate. Go back after you're well." The old lady stopped him.

"It's not far. We can get there in a few steps by carriage. I'll come back to accompany you when my foot is healed."

Lin also said, "Mother, I will take the sisters back with me so as not to disturb your peace."

General Lin passed away. As a married woman, Mrs. Lin only had to observe mourning for one year, while the old lady had to observe mourning for her husband for three years, so the mourning period has not yet ended.

The old lady thought of this and stopped trying to stop him.

The Wen Mansion was indeed very close to the General's Mansion. The mother, daughter and their two children took a carriage and arrived in less than a quarter of an hour.

Wen Hao lifted the car door curtain, took a closer look at the door plaque with the words "Wen Mansion" inscribed on it, and sneered silently.

This house was carefully chosen and bought by my maternal grandfather after my parents got engaged. My mother was an only child, and my maternal grandfather and grandmother wanted her to live close by so that she could visit her parents' home more easily.

Of course, the most practical problem was that at that time my father was just a poor scholar who had just passed the imperial examination. He did not want to live in his wife's family and hurt his self-esteem, but he had no money to buy a house.

"Ah Hao, what are you looking at?" Lin was in a very good mood and asked her little daughter who was looking out with a smile.

Wen Hao lowered the car curtains and said with a smile, "I always feel like I'm dreaming. Even home seems a little strange. Mother, why don't you send a letter to Father? Wouldn't it be better to give him a surprise when he comes back?"

Lin had been pampered since she was young. Even though she had been married for many years, she still had the heart of a little girl. She immediately thought this suggestion was a good one.

It was almost dusk when the maid finally had time to report, "Master is back," and Wen Rugui strode in.

"Master..." Seeing Wen Rugui's ashen face, Lin's smile disappeared and she was stunned.
