Chapter 486 Unfortunate Miscarriage
Meanwhile, Meng Jinyao returned to Weirui Pavilion. She had barely sat down when her eyelids started twitching again. This was the third time her eyelids had twitched today, making her feel inexplicably uneasy.
Seeing her frowning and lost in thought, Gu Jingxi asked, "Ayao, what's wrong?"
Meng Jinyao snapped out of her reverie upon hearing this, shook her head slightly, and replied, "I don't know why, but my eyelids have twitched three times today, and I've been feeling a bit uneasy."
Gu Jingxi gently reassured her, "Everything is fine at home, nothing's wrong, don't worry about it."
Meng Jinyao raised her eyes to look at him and asked, "Husband, have you made any mistakes in your work lately?"
Hearing this, Gu Jingxi smiled and said confidently, "Don't worry about that. Your husband is always meticulous and won't make any mistakes."
Meng Jinyao nodded, then asked, "You haven't found the murderer who plotted against His Highness the Crown Prince yet. Has the Emperor made any move against him?"
Gu Jingxi replied, "The Emperor hasn't mentioned this matter at all this year."
Meng Jinyao was taken aback: "You never mentioned it?"
Gu Jingxi nodded and said, "Yes, His Majesty has not mentioned it. He probably doesn't want to bring it up because he is upset. But we can't just abandon the case like this."
After hearing this, Meng Jinyao breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That must be due to my recent anxiety."
Upon hearing this, Gu Jingxi remembered that her emotions had been somewhat unstable recently, and asked gently, "I have a day off tomorrow, how about we go for a walk in the streets?"
In the past, Meng Jinyao would definitely have been interested, but now she didn't want to move. Her biggest exercise each day was a short walk, so she refused without thinking: "I'm more pregnant now, and I'm heavy. I don't want to go through all that trouble. You can stay home with me."
Gu Jingxi replied, "Okay, then we'll stay at home."
Meng Jinyao thought for a moment, then changed her mind and said, "But there doesn't seem to be much to do at home. Let's go out and have a look. I can sit in the carriage and look around."
Gu Jingxi complied with her wishes.
Meng Jinyao said, "I want to buy a set of jewelry tomorrow. I haven't had any new jewelry this spring."
Gu Jingxi replied, "Okay, we'll buy two sets."
Meng Jinyao added, "I also want to buy some toys for the children."
"good."
"I also need to go buy some snacks."
"good."
"Buy some things for my second brother as well, and then send someone to deliver them to him at the academy."
"Okay, I'll buy them all."
...
Gu Jingxi agreed to everything Meng Jinyao said and wrote down all the things she wanted to buy so that she wouldn't forget to buy them when they went shopping the next day.
-
As she went to bed that night, Meng Jinyao sat on her bed, looking at her swollen legs and feet, then at her stomach, and her mind involuntarily drifted into random thoughts once again.
Gu Jingxi had just finished showering and returned to the room when he saw her staring blankly with her head down, seemingly lost in thought. He stepped forward, pulled her into his arms, and asked softly, "Ayao, what are you thinking about now?"
Meng Jinyao raised her head, her eyes brimming with tears, and asked, "Husband, if I die on the day I give birth, will you remarry?"
Gu Jingxi replied without hesitation, "No."
He gently wiped away the tears that had welled up in Meng Jinyao's eyes and said softly, "Ayao, don't think too much. You will definitely be safe and sound. The imperial physician examined your pulse and said that you and the baby are both fine."
Meng Jinyao choked back tears and asked, "What if I really die? Will you really not remarry?"
Looking into her eyes, Gu Jingxi once again told her without hesitation, "You won't marry me?"
"Why?" Meng Jinyao stared at him intently, her eyes filled with doubt. "You used to have a hidden illness, which is why you never got married, but you're cured now."
Gu Jingxi took her hand and guided it to his heart, saying solemnly, "Since you came here, there is no room for anyone else."
Upon hearing this, Meng Jinyao's mood improved, and the sadness in her heart vanished instantly. She then asked, "So how will you live from now on?"
Gu Jingxi said, "I'll live alone."
Meng Jinyao laughed and said, "I thought you were going to commit suicide for love."
“No.” Gu Jingxi replied without hesitation once again, and then explained, “If I were to die for love, what would happen to the children? Although my eldest and second brothers would take care of them, they are only uncles, not fathers. Our children cannot live under someone else’s roof and depend on others for their lives. They must grow up carefree.”
Meng Jinyao was very satisfied after hearing this. In fact, she had just said it casually. She herself had grown up without anyone to protect her after her grandfather's death and had a very hard life. She would never want her child to go through the same thing.
Gu Jingxi said, "Ayao, don't overthink it. You're going to grow old with me. Didn't you say before that at my age, I'll definitely need you to help me walk in the future? If it's not you, who will help me walk?"
Meng Jinyao chuckled softly: "So many servants, are they just for show?"
Gu Jingxi stubbornly said, "But I only want you to support me, otherwise I won't walk, I'll just lie on the bed and not go anywhere."
Hearing this, Meng Jinyao smiled even more and chuckled, "Alright, I'm not comfortable leaving the old man in the care of the servants either." She reached out and cupped Gu Jingxi's face, then continued, "But old man, you mustn't get fat, or I won't have the strength to support you."
Gu Jingxi smiled and said, "Okay."
Meng Jinyao said, "My husband, we will grow old together."
Gu Jingxi nodded: "Of course."
-
The next morning.
Just as Gu Jingxi was about to leave with Meng Jinyao, someone from the Meng family arrived. It was Xianglan, the personal maid of her stepmother, Madam Dong.
When Meng Jinyao heard Chunliu's report, she was somewhat bewildered. Why would her stepmother's maid come to see her so early in the morning? And why did she say that she had something urgent to discuss with her? Her eyelids had been twitching and she had been feeling uneasy yesterday. Could it be that something had happened at her family home?
Thinking of this, Meng Jinyao's expression turned serious, and she said to Chunliu, "Quickly go and bring the person over."
Chunliu withdrew immediately.
Gu Jingxi reached out and held Meng Jinyao's hand, comforting her, "Don't be nervous, Ayao. It shouldn't be anything serious. I guess the maid is exaggerating."
Meng Jinyao's heart was still heavy. It wasn't that she was particularly filial and worried about her father and grandmother; she was just worried about her second brother, fearing that something might happen to him at the academy.
Not long after, Xianglan was led into the house by Chunliu.
As soon as she entered the room, Xianglan saw Meng Jinyao and, as if seeing a savior, knelt down on the ground with a thud. Before Meng Jinyao could ask any questions, she choked out, "Young lady, please do justice for our mistress!"
Meng Jinyao looked bewildered. How did this involve her stepmother? Her stepmother was in charge of the household affairs and was the mistress of the house. The servants in the mansion were well managed, and her father treated her quite well. What could possibly be so important that she would ask her for help?
Meng Jinyao said softly, "Xianglan, please stand up and speak. What happened?"
Xianglan didn't get up, and choked out, "Young lady, Madam... she miscarried." As soon as she finished speaking, tears streamed down her face, her heart aching for her mistress.
