Chapter Ninety Reveals the Purpose
The housekeeper was speechless after hearing her words.
What kind of married daughter speaks like that? When her family is in trouble, she just listens to it as a joke and is happy. Only their eldest daughter could say such cold-blooded and heartless words.
Meng Jinyao strode to the seat of honor and sat down, looking at the butler with indifferent eyes. She asked impatiently, "Didn't you say you had something urgent to discuss with me? Why did you suddenly become mute now that I'm here?"
Upon hearing this, the butler immediately remembered the important matter. He looked at Meng Jinyao and sighed, saying, "Young Miss, the Old Madam is ill, and her condition is serious. So the Lord sent me to inform you."
Meng Jinyao was slightly taken aback. Her grandmother was in good health, especially when she scolded her. Her voice was full of energy. Despite her advanced age, she seemed to be in better health than Meng Jinyao, a young girl. She could easily live another ten years. How could she suddenly become seriously ill?
She sensed something was amiss and didn't believe the housekeeper's words. She stared intently at him and asked meaningfully, "Is she really sick?"
The butler lowered his head slightly, his tone filled with worry: "Young lady, the old lady is really ill. Before I came, the family physician went to examine her."
He didn't dare to meet her gaze, and Meng Jinyao knew the answer in her heart. Since he was guilty in front of her, her grandmother's illness must have been fake, just to use the excuse of illness to get her to return to the Yongchang Marquis's Mansion.
Although all her elders were involved in the dowry matter, on the surface, it was Sun who misappropriated her mother's dowry, and it had nothing to do with her father and grandmother. When her grandmother fell ill, she, as the granddaughter, had to go back to her parents' home to visit her, otherwise it would not be very filial.
Meng Jinyao scoffed lightly and said calmly, "Alright, I understand. You can go back now."
Seeing that she had not expressed her opinion, the butler asked anxiously, "Young lady, the old lady has been very worried about you since she fell ill. She was still talking about you last night, so the master sent me here early this morning to inform you. Don't you really plan to go back and see the old lady?"
Meng Jinyao curled her lips and said teasingly, "Since Grandmother is ill, as her granddaughter, of course I have to go back to visit her. How could I not go back?"
The butler noticed the faint smile on her lips and sensed something was wrong, becoming even more uneasy: "Then...then you..."
"Do you want me to go back with you right now?" Meng Jinyao's voice was indifferent, yet carried an undeniable air of authority.
The butler hurriedly shook his head: "Of course not, how could the young lady go back with me? Even if she were to go back, it would be me who goes with you."
Meng Jinyao said calmly, "The message has been delivered. You can go back now."
The steward dared not say more, bid farewell to Meng Jinyao, and then returned to the Yongchang Marquis's residence to report.
Qingqiu also didn't believe that Old Madam Meng was really sick, and asked with a worried look, "Madam, do you really want to go back to the Yongchang Marquis's Mansion? I think they are just using this as an excuse to trick you into going back."
Meng Jinyao said nonchalantly, "Of course I'll go back. Why wouldn't I? On the surface, I only had a falling out with Madam Sun, not with Grandmother. Besides, how would I know what they're up to if I don't go back?"
Qingqiu frowned, her eyes brimming with worry.
Meng Jinyao said gently, "It's alright. I am the wife of the Marquis of Changxing. I doubt they would dare to do anything to me. Qingqiu, go and buy some tonics. We'll go back to the Yongchang Marquis's residence this afternoon to watch their opera."
The clear autumn air echoes.
Back at Wei Rui Xuan, Meng Jin Yao gave Qing Qiu some silver to buy supplements that the patient could take.

The Yongchang Earl's Mansion.
When Meng Jinyao arrived at the Yongchang Marquis's residence, it was late afternoon.
This time when she returned, she was not treated coldly. The steward personally came to greet her. Seeing the maid behind her carrying gifts, he also stepped forward to accept them and invited her to Rongfu Hall.
When Meng Jinyao arrived at Rongfu Hall, Old Madam Meng was taking a nap. The maid seemed to know that she would return sooner or later, so she respectfully invited her to the small hall of Rongfu Hall, served her tea and snacks, and asked her to wait a while.
The other maidservant immediately went to inform Meng Dongyuan and Madam Sun.
Qingqiu stood beside Meng Jinyao, serving her. Seeing how well the maid treated her mistress, she felt flattered for her mistress. Her mistress had never received such treatment in Rongfu Hall.
Qingqiu bent down and whispered in Meng Jinyao's ear, "Madam, why do I feel like they have ill intentions?"
Meng Jinyao said calmly, "It's alright, you'll find out soon enough."
Not long after, Meng Dongyuan and Madam Sun arrived.
Meng Jinyao stood up and bowed: "Father, Madam Meng."
When Madam Sun heard that she was not addressed as "Mother" but only as "Madam Meng," she felt a little embarrassed, but now was not the time to argue with her, so she smiled magnanimously and replied, "Ayao, sit down and talk first."
Seeing that she was clearly seething with hatred and wanted to tear her apart, yet she could still smile at her, Meng Jinyao couldn't help but find it amusing. It seemed that they had gone to great lengths to trick her back, hoping to gain some benefit, and that benefit was probably related to the Sun family.
After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Old Madam Meng appeared in the hall, supported by her maid.
Meng Jinyao looked her up and down, not thinking she was sick, but her worried expression was quite convincing. She asked gently, "I heard from the steward that Grandmother is ill. I wonder what caused her illness?"
"It's just a bit of a headache, nothing serious." Madam Meng said, giving her son a reproachful glare. "And you, I already said it's nothing, yet you still sent someone to bring A-Yao back."
Meng Dongyuan replied, "I see that Mother can't sleep well at night, and her medicine doesn't seem to help. Ayao is her granddaughter, and she should come back to visit her grandmother when she's sick. Otherwise, people will say she's unfilial."
Meng Jinyao watched them act quietly. Now that she had some free time, she played along, acting as a dutiful granddaughter. She asked at the right moment, "Is it because the medicine prescribed by the family physician is not working? The doctors at Miaochuntang are renowned throughout the capital for their miraculous healing skills. Why don't we ask them to come and treat Grandmother?"
Madam Meng said gently, "Ayao, you're so kind. Your grandmother isn't sick; she's just worried about your third brother and can't sleep."
She sighed wistfully, looked at Meng Jinyao, and seemed to remember something. She continued, "Grandmother heard that Lord Gu and the headmaster of Lingshan Academy are close friends despite their age difference. Help your third brother out by talking to Lord Gu and asking him to ask Headmaster Xu for a spot. For him, it's just a matter of talking. Ah Yao, Grandmother can tell that Lord Gu dotes on you, and he certainly won't refuse your request."
The fox's tail was revealed so quickly?
Meng Jinyao's expression froze for a moment, then she gave a mocking smile. She thought it was something else, but it turned out she was just plotting this.
Meng Chengxing failed the Lingshan Academy's assessment, but his second brother did. How could they stand by and watch their illegitimate son be more successful than their legitimate son?
She said calmly, "I'm sorry, I can't help with this matter. Since Lingshan Academy has set up an assessment system, it's all about ability. What kind of ability is it to use connections?"
After saying that, she chuckled and stood up gracefully, then said, "Since Grandmother is well, I'll head back now."
Old Madam Meng shouted angrily, "Stop right there!"
