Chapter 229 Xiu Ming's Biological Father
Seeing this, Meng Jinyao stopped in her tracks, unsure if she would disturb their conversation if she went forward. However, this was the only way to Weirui Pavilion, so she hesitated and stood there waiting.
A moment later, Gu Jingxi finished talking with the man, and the man walked towards Meng Jinyao.
When he saw Meng Jinyao, he froze, feeling that she looked somewhat familiar. He looked her over carefully for a moment before remembering her, and then turned to ask Gu Jingxi, "Is this your sister-in-law?"
Gu Jingxi also saw his wife and nodded slightly: "It is indeed my wife." He then walked towards Meng Jinyao and introduced her, "Madam, this is my second uncle's cousin Jingze."
Meng Jinyao curtsied and said, "Greetings, cousin."
Gu Jingze returned the greeting with a cupped hand: "Sister-in-law."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Gu Jingze left, glancing at Meng Jinyao before he did.
Watching his departing figure, Meng Jinyao asked, "Husband, I've never seen this cousin of yours before?"
Gu Jingxi said gently, "It's normal that you haven't seen him. He's not in the capital. He's gone back to his ancestral home. Even I don't see him for years unless there's a family celebration that invites them."
Meng Jinyao nodded knowingly, then said, "I think you look a bit like him."
Gu Jingxi smiled and said, "My grandfather and his grandfather were brothers, and their great-grandfathers were the same person. With such close blood ties, it's normal for them to look alike."
Meng Jinyao carefully examined the man beside her and said, "I thought Gu Xiuming looked somewhat like you before, but after seeing your cousin today, I feel that Gu Xiuming looks more like your cousin."
Gu Jingxi paused for a moment, then replied, "He is Xiu Ming's biological father."
These words were like a thunderbolt, and Meng Jinyao was so shocked that her eyes widened: "He... he is Gu Xiuming's biological father?"
Gu Jingxi nodded: "Yes, he's here to attend Xuanyi's wedding."

Meng Jinyao gave a faint "Oh," thinking that Gu Jingze had come to his cousin's wedding banquet, so he would probably come to his own son's wedding as well.
So she asked again, "On the day I got married, they must have come to the wedding banquet, right?"
Gu Jingxi replied, "They came, but Xiu Ming ran away from the wedding. They left that very night after the wedding banquet."
Meng Jinyao was slightly surprised, but not unexpected. How could the biological parents dare to stay and embarrass themselves if their adopted son did such a disgraceful thing as running away from his marriage? They were probably afraid that the other party would take their anger out on them, so they ran away overnight.

Gu Jingxi said calmly, "As far as I know, there is no such thing, but whether they have private dealings is unknown."
Meng Jinyao muttered, "Perhaps there is."
Gu Jingxi curled the corners of his lips and smiled nonchalantly: "Let's not worry about whether he has it or not. I know what Madam is worried about, but I have other considerations. This is the last time."
The last time?
Meng Jinyao pondered the meaning of those four words. Did they mean giving Gu Xiuming one last chance, or something else? If it was one last chance, given Gu Xiuming's personality, it wouldn't be difficult for him to slip up. In that case, she had to keep a close eye on him.
Seeing her flushed face and misty eyes, indicating she was somewhat drunk, Gu Jingxi asked gently, "Madam, have you been drinking?"
"I had a few drinks with the guests, and my head is a little heavy now."
After saying that, Meng Jinyao yawned. She had been busy since early this morning, entertaining guests. She didn't feel anything when she was busy, but after she finished and relaxed, she felt very sleepy.

After drinking the hangover soup and taking a hot bath, Meng Jinyao felt less tired and more awake, as if her drowsiness had been washed away.
She tossed and turned in bed, and when she heard footsteps behind her, she turned to look out of bed and saw the man sitting down on the edge of the bed, asking her, "Madam, weren't you sleepy? Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Meng Jinyao replied, "I was sleepy at first, but after taking a shower I'm not sleepy anymore."
"Then I'll keep you company for a while," Gu Jingxi said, taking off his casual shoes and lying down.
After he lay down, Meng Jinyao rolled into his arms with practiced ease. Once inside, she wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on one of his arms.
Gu Jingxi smiled, and after doing it so many times, he could now hold her with ease and skill. When the person in his arms sniffed him, he paused, then subconsciously sniffed back, and asked, "Madam, what's wrong?"
Meng Jinyao smiled and said, "My husband smells so good."
Upon hearing this, Gu Jingxi recalled the fragrance on his body and glanced at the person in his arms with a strange look: "Madam, did you have the maid change the scented soap in the washroom to osmanthus scented soap?"
“Yes, otherwise who would dare to change? It’s autumn, so it’s for the season. But I think it’s too strong. I’d rather use orchid scent, which is more subtle.” Meng Jinyao said, then sniffed the fragrance on Gu Jingxi’s body. It was rich yet refreshing, and it felt invigorating. “I originally thought my husband smelled nice with orchid scent, but I didn’t expect that osmanthus scent would be good too.”
Gu Jingxi's brow twitched. So this girl also knew that the osmanthus was too fragrant and didn't want to use it. Then why would a grown man like him want something so fragrant? She didn't use it herself, but left it where he kept his toiletries, so that he could just grab a piece and use it by accident.
Seeing the little girl in his arms looking at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes, Gu Jingxi knew exactly what was going on. He reached out and pinched her rosy cheek, both amused and annoyed, and said, "You little rascal, are you doing this on purpose?"
