Chapter 120 Bringing His Little Wife
Is he worried about her?
He was afraid something might happen to her, so he waited for her at the front door of the house.
Meng Jinyao was startled and suddenly looked up at him, both surprised and astonished.
In the soft light, the man's features were clearly defined, with long, slender eyebrows and eyes, and his originally gloomy face had regained its calm.
The soft light from the lanterns illuminating the sides reflected into those long, narrow eyes, softening their color. Their gaze was calm yet gentle, tinged with a barely perceptible worry.
When she met his gaze, Meng Jinyao was momentarily stunned. She subconsciously lowered her eyes and looked away, her eyes slightly flustered. She rested her head on the man's chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, and her heart skipped a beat.
Meng Jinyao murmured softly, "Why is my husband so good to me?"
They were just strangers who met by chance. What did she do to deserve that Gu Jingxi would wait for her at her doorstep so late at night?
Gu Jingxi glanced down at her. The girl seemed guilty for not going home so late at night, nestled in his arms like a little quail. He smiled slightly and replied calmly, "I've only been married for a short time. It's not good to be a widower, is it?"
Meng Jinyao: "..."
She was just deeply moved, but now she's had a heart attack.
She said irritably, "My husband is a marquis, holding a high position. It's not like he can't find a wife. If he loses me, he can just marry another one."
Gu Jingxi's face froze, then he chuckled softly, "I couldn't even take good care of you, wouldn't marrying another one be a disaster?"
Upon hearing this, Meng Jinyao paused, her lips parted slightly, but she didn't say anything. She wrapped her arms around his neck, rested her head on his chest, and, feeling the effects of the alcohol, soon became drowsy again. She then comfortably leaned against him and fell asleep.
After a moment of silence, Gu Jingxi parted his thin lips slightly and, like an old father, began to nag, "Madam, next time you go out, you must leave a message for the maid so I know where you're going. Come back earlier in the evenings; it's not safe for a young lady to come back too late. If you really want to stay out late with your girlfriends, then take a few servants who know martial arts with you. Like today, with a coachman and two maids, it's fine during the day, but it's not safe enough at night."
Upon hearing the sound, Meng Jinyao unconsciously hummed in response, snuggled closer to him, and covered her ears against his chest as much as possible, as if this would make her world much quieter and allow her to sleep more comfortably.
Gu Jingxi looked down and saw that the little girl in his arms had her eyes closed, probably asleep. She hadn't heard a word he said. He couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle. His colleagues envied his good fortune, an older man with a younger wife, a beautiful and young woman. But he felt like he was raising a child. For example, tonight, the child was "lost" and still hadn't been seen late at night. He sent people to search for her for half the night.
Qingqiu and Ningdong followed behind him, exchanging a silent glance. They had to admit that the Marquis was actually quite good. Although he might have other women in his heart, he fulfilled his responsibilities as a husband to his wife.
After a moment, Gu Jingxi stopped in her tracks, glanced at the two maids behind her, and questioned, "How did you take care of your mistress? It's so late, and you didn't even remind her to go home, and you even let her drink so much wine."
Qingqiu hurriedly said, "This servant knows her mistake and will not do it again."
At this moment, Gu Jingxi's personal attendant, Zhou Yun, came towards them. Upon seeing the person in his arms, he paused, "My lord, has the madam returned?"
Gu Jingxi nodded slightly: "Yes, let them come back. There's no need to look for them anymore."
-
Wei Rui Xuan.
The two masters have not yet returned, and the main house is brightly lit.
Xia Zhu and the maid on night duty heard a commotion outside and went out to check. Just as they reached the door, they saw the Marquis carrying his wife back. Both maids were stunned.
Xia Zhu glanced at them and stepped forward to ask with concern, "My lord, what's wrong with the lady?"
Gu Jingxi replied, "Madam is asleep. Bring in a basin of water so she can wash her face." After saying that, he instructed the maid on night duty, "Prepare a bath."
The two maids responded and immediately went to do it.
Gu Jingxi carried the little girl inside. After entering the inner room, he gently placed her on the bed. He then found some medicinal wine for treating bruises and sprains and gave it to Qingqiu, asking her and Ningdong to apply the medicine to the little girl. He then went to the clean room to take a bath.
Meng Jinyao wasn't seriously injured, except for a bruise on her arm from hitting the ground and a sprained left ankle. The arm injury was easy to treat, and the bruise would fade in a few days, so it wouldn't affect her much normally. However, her left ankle was swollen, and she probably wouldn't be able to walk for the next few days.
After taking a bath, Gu Jingxi returned to his bedroom and looked at the sleeping girl. He asked in a low voice, "Qingqiu, how is Madam? Was the fall serious?"
Qingqiu curtsied slightly: "Replying to your question, Lord Marquis, Madam's arm is only bruised and there is nothing serious. However, she has sprained her ankle and it is swollen. She will probably not be able to walk for several days."
Upon hearing this, Gu Jingxi sat down on the edge of the bed, reached out and pulled up a section of the girl's left trouser leg. Sure enough, he saw a lump on her ankle. He frowned and ordered, "Bring the medicinal wine over."
Qingqiu replied, "My lord, I have already applied the medicine to the lady."
Gu Jingxi said calmly, "You just lightly apply the medicinal wine to her wound; it won't do much good."
Qingqiu was taken aback upon hearing this, thinking to herself, "Could it be that the Marquis intends to personally apply the medicine to the Madam again?" She didn't dare to refuse and hurriedly handed over the medicinal wine that hadn't been prepared yet.
Gu Jingxi poured some medicinal wine into his palm, then placed his palm on the little girl's swollen ankle, pressing, kneading, and stroking it repeatedly with moderate pressure.
Qingqiu was stunned. Although she didn't understand medical principles, her intuition told her that this was the only way to make the medicinal wine work.
A moment later, the little girl was woken up by the commotion, wincing in pain. She suddenly opened her eyes and saw that it was Gu Jingxi applying medicine to her. Forgetting her embarrassment, she gasped and cried out in pain, "Ouch...it hurts!"
Then, instinctively, she tried to pull her foot back, but the man held it firmly.
She frowned, glared at him, and said in a resentful tone, "Husband, what are you doing? If I've done something wrong and you're not satisfied with me, you can't retaliate like this. What's the difference between this and rubbing salt into a wound? Ouch, be gentle, be gentle...it hurts."
Gu Jingxi glanced at her and said calmly, "Apply the medicine. Madam, don't move around. Just wait a little longer. Otherwise, your leg will be more than just unable to walk for a few days. If it's not treated properly, your ankle will be prone to sprains in the future."
Upon hearing this, Meng Jinyao was so frightened that she dared not move again. Even though her face turned pale with pain, she endured it without moving, her eyes fixed on the large hand, as if she desperately hoped that it would end in the next moment. Her pearly white teeth bit her lip, her face showing a painful and restrained expression.
Seeing this, Gu Jingxi was a little surprised, but smiled and said, "It's alright. No one will laugh at a child for crying. It's okay to cry when it hurts. Madam doesn't need to hold back."
