Chapter 271 Don't Be Temperamental
As Gu Xuanyi and the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an stepped onto the stone arch bridge, they suddenly heard a soft laugh. The couple instinctively looked in the direction of the sound and saw a young couple standing beside a bare willow tree not far ahead.
Those two people were Gu Xuanling and her husband Liu Zifang.
The couple were talking about something, but Gu Xuanling looked at her husband with a smile on her face and affection in her eyes. When she heard her husband say something, she gave him a shy and timid look before looking away.
Liu Zifang seemed to really like his new wife like this, his smile deepened, he reached out and took her hand, and they walked side by side.
Gu Xuanyi watched the couple leave hand in hand, chatting and laughing. Liu Zifang even deliberately matched Gu Xuanling's pace, lowering his head slightly and tilting his ear towards her as she spoke, looking like he was listening attentively. Gu Xuanling would occasionally turn her head to look at Liu Zifang when he spoke, a smile on her lips.
Gu Xuanyi watched her cousin and cousin-in-law walk away, slightly dazed. Such an intimate, harmonious and loving scene felt a little unfamiliar to her. Although her husband treated her well, she and her husband seemed to have never had such a warm moment.
When the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an saw his wife staring at someone in a daze, with a hint of envy and longing in her eyes, he frowned slightly, turned his wife to look at him, and asked gently, "Xuanyi, what are you looking at them for?"
Gu Xuanyi replied, "My second sister and her husband have a very good relationship." So good that she was jealous. Her cousin's parents were loving and her husband had passed the imperial examination, while she had a wicked mother-in-law and her husband had failed the exam. It seemed that her cousin had achieved perfection in all the things that made her miserable.
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an glanced at the backs of Gu Xuanling and her husband, and asked in a low voice, "So our relationship isn't good?"
Gu Xuanyi raised her eyes to look at her husband, but what came to mind was the scene of her cousin and cousin's husband getting along. Her tone revealed a hint of disappointment: "Our relationship is also very good, but it seems a little different from theirs."
Upon hearing this, the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an lowered his eyes slightly, but his gaze remained gentle as he softly said, "Xuanyi, every couple has their own way of getting along. How can they be the same? Look at your parents-in-law and us, are they the same?"
Gu Xuanyi subconsciously compared them, then shook her head: "They're different."
"Isn't that it?" The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an reached out and stroked her face, his thumb gently caressing her soft cheek. Looking into her eyes, he said slowly, "Xuanyi, you are the first girl I've ever liked in my life. I feel very happy with you. I don't usually interact with girls and I don't really know how to get along with them. If I do something wrong, just tell me, okay?"
The man's tender words of confession were like honey, filling Gu Xuanyi's ears and sweetening her heart. They dispelled the bitterness in her heart, and the grievances she had suffered in her husband's family vanished in an instant. At this moment, she felt that as long as she could stay with the person in front of her forever, she could accept any grievances.
She looked into the man's gentle eyes and nodded softly, "Okay."
The Marquis of Wu'an's heir said again, "Xuanyi, you are the only one in my heart and eyes, and you can only have me in your heart and eyes as well. There can be no other people or things. I don't like you paying attention to other people and things, do you understand?"
Gu Xuanyi nodded again: "Okay."
The Marquis of Wu'an smiled with satisfaction: "Xuanyi is so good. I love Xuanyi just the way she is."
Gu Xuanyi smiled and looked at the man in front of her with infatuation. Her heart was filled with sweetness. She suddenly felt that her husband loved her more than her brother-in-law loved her cousin. Even when she paid attention to other things, her husband seemed to get jealous.
The Marquis of Wu'an's heir said gently, "It's windy here, let's go back."
Gu Xuanyi nodded, but after taking two steps, she suddenly remembered that she hadn't had a proper conversation with her sister-in-law since returning to her parents' home. Her sister-in-law had treated her very well, so she said, "Husband, I want to go talk to my sister-in-law. Why don't you go talk to my eldest brother or fourth brother first?"
Upon hearing this, the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an paused slightly and asked, "What do you want to talk to your sister-in-law about?"
Gu Xuanyi said, "We didn't talk about anything."
The Marquis of Wu'an's heir's tone became somewhat indifferent: "Is that so?"
Gu Xuanyi nodded and replied truthfully, "I haven't spoken much with my sister-in-law since I came back today. I heard from my mother that the baby in my sister-in-law's belly is moving. I want to touch it and see what the fetal movement is like."
Upon hearing this, the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an's gaze darkened, a hint of displeasure flashed across his face, and he pulled Gu Xuanyi's hand, stopping in his tracks.
Gu Xuanyi also stopped and turned to look at him, asking in confusion, "What's wrong, husband?"
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an smiled and said in a way that left no room for refusal, "Xuanyi, I want to visit the courtyard where you lived before you got married. Will you come with me?"
"ah?"
Gu Xuanyi was a little confused and bewildered by his sudden request to see her courtyard, but she still obediently led him to see the courtyard where she lived before she got married. The courtyard was still empty, since there were no other girls in the family.
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an glanced at her casually, sat for a while longer, and then, estimating that it was lunchtime, left with her to have lunch.
After lunch, Gu Xuanyi wanted to talk to her mother and sister-in-law, but the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an said that he hadn't taken her out to the street in a long time and wanted to take her out for a stroll. So she left her parents' home early and went out to the street with her husband full of anticipation.
However, once they reached the street, she led the Marquis of Wu'an's heir. After walking for a short while, the Marquis of Wu'an's heir said he was tired and wanted to return to the manor.
Gu Xuanyi was a little unhappy. She thought her husband was going to take her shopping or buy her something, but they didn't get to shop much and ended up returning home empty-handed.
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an also noticed her displeasure and called her gently, "Xuanyi."
Gu Xuanyi didn't say anything, and simply turned her head away, looking like she didn't intend to pay any attention to him.
Seeing this, the heir of the Marquis of Wu'an showed a hint of impatience, but his tone was still relatively gentle: "Xuanyi, don't be childish. When we get home, Mother will misunderstand if she sees this. You don't want Mother to think we've had a fight, do you?"
Gu Xuanyi, who had also been pampered since childhood, was annoyed when her husband didn't even try to comfort her and instead criticized her. She said irritably, "You promised to take me shopping, but you didn't make any plans. I had to take you around, and after only a short while, you wanted to go home without buying anything. It was clearly your fault, and you still said I was being childish?"
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an frowned and said with disappointment, "Xuanyi, you weren't like this before. You used to be gentle and considerate. How come you don't know how to be considerate of your husband at all now? I got up early this morning to accompany you back to your parents' home, coaxing you and taking care of your feelings. What more do you want from your husband?"
"I……"
Gu Xuanyi was speechless for a moment. Looking at her husband's disappointed expression, she felt inexplicably guilty, as if she had really been being unreasonable.
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an glanced at her and softened his tone: "Xuanyi loves her husband the most. How could she bear to see her husband tired? It must be because I haven't accompanied you to the market for a long time. Now that we've gone out, it has spoiled the mood and upset Xuanyi. It's my fault."
Upon hearing this, Gu Xuanyi felt distressed and quickly shook her head, saying, "Husband, I'm not upset. Your health is the most important thing. Go back and rest now."
The Marquis of Wu'an's heir said again, "I was a little impatient just now, Xuanyi, please don't be angry with me, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Xuanyi shook her head again: "Husband, I'm not angry, really."
The heir of the Marquis of Wu'an smiled and said, "Xuanyi is the best."
