Chapter 274 The Illness Is Not Good
Seeing her red eyes, filled with tears, and on the verge of crying, Gu Jingxi's heart clenched. He thought she was in too much pain and quickly comforted her, "Ayao, don't cry. If it really hurts, just bite me. I've heard that biting something can make you feel better when you're in pain."
Meng Jinyao was touched by him, and her eyes reddened. Now, hearing his words, she felt even more like crying, and tears fell uncontrollably.
Meng Jinyao had almost died from her illness before. Although she was afraid of death and worried that she would not be able to take revenge if she died, she did not cry. But now, because she was cherished and cared for, she couldn't help but cry.
Seeing the glistening tears sliding down her cheeks, Gu Jingxi felt a little flustered. He quickly wiped away her tears and said gently, "I have already sent someone to the Imperial Hospital to invite Physician Wen. He will be here as soon as he starts his shift. If you can't bear it, I will send someone to invite the family physician to take a look. Although the family physician's medical skills are not as good as Physician Wen's, he can still make do for now."
Meng Jinyao was taken aback: "My husband sent someone to fetch Physician Wen?"
Gu Jingxi said, "You're in so much pain, how can you force yourself to endure it? Imperial Physician Wen is highly skilled and experienced in treating gynecological diseases. All the ladies in the palace consult him. Maybe he can cure your menstrual cramps." As he spoke, he released her body and sat up. "I'll go and have someone invite the royal physician to come and treat you. Imperial Physician Wen hasn't been able to get here for a while yet."
Meng Jinyao took his hand, sniffed, and said, "Husband, there's no need to call the physician. I'm actually feeling better than before."
Gu Jingxi didn't believe it: "You're feeling a little better than before, yet you're still crying from the pain?"
Meng Jinyao glared at him, her voice nasal: "Isn't it because you made me cry?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Jingxi was bewildered and innocent, not understanding how she had made the person cry.
Meng Jinyao glanced at him, slightly shy, and replied hesitantly, "Besides my grandfather, only my husband cherishes me like this." After saying that, she turned away.
Upon hearing this, Gu Jingxi was first taken aback, then understood after a long while, feeling more heartache than anything else. He had only done what a husband should do.
Gu Jingxi lay back down and pulled her into his arms. She was curled up in a small ball. Usually, she was always so lively and bright, but now, seeing her so weak made his heart ache.
After a moment, Gu Jingxi placed his palm on her lower abdomen, trying to make her more comfortable, and said, "Ayao, breakfast should have been cooked in the kitchen by now. Why don't you eat something to warm your stomach? That might make you feel better."
Meng Jinyao nodded in agreement: "Alright."
Gu Jingxi then brought in Qingqiu and Ningdong.
Meng Jinyao was feeling unwell, so she rinsed her mouth and washed her face while sitting on the bed, with two maids serving her.
After she finished washing up, the other maids went to the kitchen to fetch breakfast and came back.
Today, the kitchen cooked red date and shredded chicken porridge, which was perfect for Meng Jinyao, who was feeling unwell. She sat on the bed with a hot water bottle in her arms, waiting to be fed.
Gu Jingxi fed the person on the bed spoonful by spoonful. After she finished a bowl of hot porridge, her complexion seemed to have improved. He secretly regretted his foolishness earlier. He should have asked the maid to cook some warm soup for her.
Gu Jingxi asked, "Ayao, would you like to eat something else?"
Meng Jinyao gently shook her head: "I'm full and feel much better. Husband, go have breakfast first."
Gu Jingxi nodded, took a handkerchief to wipe her mouth, and then took the bowl and went out.
When Qingqiu and Ningdong saw him come out, they went in to ask how their master was feeling.
Meng Jinyao replied softly, "I'm fine, I'm feeling better now. It's just that I haven't had my period for more than half a year, and now that it's suddenly back, I'm a little unaccustomed to it."
After pondering for a moment, Qingqiu advised, "Madam, although there are others who experience abdominal pain during their period like you, I don't see anyone else suffering as much as you. Why don't you go to Huichuntang and find a doctor who is knowledgeable about gynecological diseases to take a look?"
Meng Jinyao said gently, "The Marquis has sent someone to invite Physician Wen to come and take a look at me. I reckon he'll arrive later tonight."
Qingqiu's eyes lit up: "The imperial physicians from the Imperial Hospital are even better, they must be better than those from Huichuntang."
-
Physician Wen arrived quite early. He had just finished his shift when he was invited over by the Gu family and rushed over at three-quarters past Chen hour.
Led by a servant, they arrived at Wei Rui Xuan. When Physician Wen saw Gu Jingxi, who looked quite well and didn't seem sick at all, he was stunned and said with a strange expression, "The Marquis looks quite well and doesn't seem to be sick. He doesn't need my treatment."
Gu Jingxi replied, "I am not sick. It is my wife who is unwell, so I asked Physician Wen to come over."
Physician Wen was taken aback. He glanced around the room, which was filled with standing maids, but he couldn't see the mistress of the house. He then asked, "Where is Madam Gu?"
"Physician Wen, please come with me." Gu Jingxi said, and then led Physician Wen into the inner room.
Upon seeing this, Imperial Physician Wen frowned slightly, feeling that this was a bit tricky. Madam Gu was so young, I heard she was only sixteen years old, yet she was bedridden with illness.
Meanwhile, Meng Jinyao was lying on the bed talking to Qingqiu when she heard footsteps. Looking in the direction of the sound, she saw her husband enter with a man in an official robe. The man was about sixty years old, with gray hair, but he was a spirited old man with a kind face and a friendly demeanor.
This person must be Physician Wen.
Physician Wen also saw Meng Jinyao on the bed. Seeing her pale face and listless appearance, he felt at first glance that she was quite ill. With a doctor's compassion, he quickly put down his medicine box and asked before Meng Jinyao could speak, "Madam Gu, where are you feeling unwell?"
Gu Jingxi was afraid that his wife would be embarrassed to say these things to a strange man, so he answered for her and carefully described her symptoms: "I have unbearable abdominal pain after my period, and I even wake up in the middle of the night in pain. My face is pale and I break out in a cold sweat. This has been the case with my period before."
Upon hearing this, Imperial Physician Wen glanced at Gu Jingxi and said, "..." I didn't ask you anything, why did you answer first?
However, the fact that he knew so much about his wife's menstrual cycle proved that he cared. With such a beautiful wife at home, it's no wonder she suddenly sought his treatment to regain her virility. You know, Lord Gu used to call him a quack and refused to treat her.
The patient gave up halfway through treatment, which greatly angered him.
Now the couple has problems, and they're both coming to him—one is a man's problem, and the other is a woman's problem.
In Lord Gu's mind, this old man suddenly went from a quack to a miracle doctor.
While thinking this to himself, Physician Wen had already taken the pulse pillow and sat down on the stool in front of the bed. He said to Meng Jinyao, "Madam Gu, please extend your hand so I can take your pulse first."
Meng Jinyao stretched her hand out from under the covers and placed it on the pulse pillow.
Physician Wen placed three fingers on Meng Jinyao's pulse. After a moment, his brows furrowed slightly, his expression became serious, and he took the pulse more carefully, as if Meng Jinyao's condition was not good.
