Chapter Thirty-Two: Behave Yourself

Chapter Thirty-Two: Behave Yourself

Meng Jinyao arrived at the small house behind the ancestral hall, a house specifically prepared for unfilial descendants who were confined to the ancestral hall to reflect on their mistakes.

The servant who was sent to take care of Gu Xiuming was a little confused when he saw her. He had clearly notified the Marquis, so why was it the Madam who came?

But now was not the time to dwell on this issue. Since one of the couple was present, he quickly stepped forward and respectfully bowed, saying, "This humble servant greets Madam."

Meng Jinyao nodded slightly and asked again, "How is my son now?"

The servant respectfully replied, "Reporting to Madam, the young master has already woken up."

Meng Jinyao gave a soft "hmm" and then walked briskly into the house, with Chunliu following along reluctantly.

As soon as I entered the room, a strong, unpleasant medicinal smell hit me; it must be medicine for treating wounds.

Meng Jinyao wrinkled her nose uncomfortably and continued walking inside, but she didn't see her cheap husband. She only saw her cheap son lying on the bed. She was a little confused and turned to look at Chunliu, intending to ask a question.

Chunliu was also bewildered. She had clearly received a message that the Marquis was coming to see the young master. She stammered, "Madam, I didn't know either."

Hearing the sound, the person on the bed looked up and followed the sound. When he saw who it was, Gu Xiuming was first disappointed, then his anger rose. Just as he was about to get up, the wound on his back was pulled, making him wince in pain. Seeing Meng Jinyao smile, he endured the pain and snorted coldly: "Meng Jinyao, did you come here to laugh at me?"

Meng Jinyao glanced at him and saw that he was pale and haggard, looking sickly. Even his voice was soft, indicating that he was seriously injured, but not in mortal danger. She smiled and said, "Son, what are you saying? I heard that you had a high fever last night. How could I not come and see you?"

Her blatant smile was incredibly irritating to Gu Xiuming, who felt that the image of a wicked stepmother was perfectly embodied in her. He sneered, "You poisonous woman, did you come to see if I'm still alive? I'm not dead, I'm alive and well, aren't you disappointed?"

“How could I be disappointed? What mother would want her son to die young?” Meng Jinyao said, then sat down on a chair and looked at Gu Xiuming with a smile. Seeing him lying there, not daring to move even when he was angry, for fear of aggravating his wound, she felt a sense of relief and satisfaction.

Gu Xiuming gritted his teeth and said hatefully, "Stop pretending to be kind with your crocodile tears. I'm like this because of you!"

Meng Jinyao wasn't annoyed. She raised her eyebrows slightly and said slowly in a drawn-out voice, "My son, I am able to become your mother thanks to you."

Gu Xiuming was furious. Looking at that bright and charming smiling face, he secretly hated her. If he had known this would happen, he shouldn't have run away from the wedding. He should have married this wicked woman, let her pave the way for Wan'er, and then found a fault to divorce her and marry Wan'er.

Because of his impulsive actions, he made a mistake. Now this wicked woman has become his nominal mother, and he will be ridiculed whenever he goes out. Meng Jinyao is the only shameful chapter in his sixteen years of life.

Meng Jinyao asked infuriatingly, "Son, you don't have a mother, and I don't have a son. We can help each other succeed, which is quite good, don't you think?"

Gu Xiuming's face twisted with rage as he glared at Meng Jinyao and shouted, "Who is your son? A penniless man who married his fiancé's father just to climb the social ladder. Have you no shame? If I were you, I would find a quiet place and end my life with a white silk ribbon, so as not to leave this world to embarrass myself!"

"presumptuous!"

Before Meng Jinyao could retaliate, an angry shout came from the direction of the door. She turned her head and saw Gu Jingxi's furious face. She was slightly stunned, but quickly realized that Chunliu's information was correct and that she had arrived too early.

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Gu Xiuming's pupils suddenly contracted. He looked up and saw his father striding in with a grim expression. His face was deathly pale, and he stammered, "Father... Father."

Gu Jingxi frowned, his face dark and his gaze sharp as he looked at his unfilial son lying on the bed. Anger surged in his heart, and he asked in a deep voice, "It's shameful for her to marry her ex-fiancé's father, but isn't it also shameful for me to marry my son's ex-fiancée?"

Gu Xiuming hurriedly shook his head: "Father, that's not what I meant."

Gu Jingxi questioned again: "She, as a victim, should end her life, but you, the culprit who eloped with someone on your wedding day, should live?"

Seeing that Gu Xiuming was speechless, he continued to scold him: "If you had any sense of responsibility, things wouldn't have come to this. As the heir of the Marquis's mansion, you don't even have the most basic sense of responsibility. Even now, you don't know how to reflect on your mistakes and instead push the blame onto others. Moreover, you are disrespectful to your elders and refuse to change your ways despite repeated admonitions. How can someone like you shoulder great responsibilities?"

Gu Xiuming's heart trembled. He looked up and met the sharp gaze, but quickly lowered his head in fear and said in a trembling voice, "Father, your son knows his mistake."

Gu Jingxi lowered his eyes slightly and said slowly, "Xiu Ming, you have really disappointed me." After speaking, he turned his gaze to the little girl beside him, pinched his brow with a headache, and said, "Madam, let's go and let him reflect on his actions here."

After saying that, Gu Jingxi turned around and left without looking back.

Seeing this, Meng Jinyao quickly stood up and followed her away.

"Father!"

Gu Xiuming hurriedly called out to Gu Jingxi, but seeing that Gu Jingxi did not turn around or even stop walking, he panicked. Ignoring the injury on his back, he struggled to get up, but in his excitement, he fell off the bed. The intense pain made his vision go black and he fainted.

Meanwhile, after leaving the ancestral hall, Meng Jinyao secretly glanced at the man's face. Seeing that his expression had returned to normal, she couldn't guess what he was feeling at the moment, so she didn't dare to act rashly for the time being.

Gu Jingxi stopped and glanced at Chunliu, signaling her to leave.

When Chunliu met his gaze, she panicked, fearing that she would be held accountable. Now that she could leave, she dared not linger. She curtsied to him and quickly left.

Seeing his wife's head bowed, revealing a section of her fair neck, Gu Jingxi couldn't see her expression. She looked like a pitiful little thing who had been bullied. He opened his mouth and asked, "Are you feeling wronged?"

"ah?"

Meng Jinyao looked up and met those calm eyes, which seemed to hold a hint of concern. She honestly shook her head, a smile playing on her lips: "No, what mother would hold a grudge against her son?"

Seeing this, Gu Jingxi knew that his little wife had not been wronged at all, and was probably even gloating over Xiu Ming's misfortune.

He sighed in exasperation. His son was a handful, and so was his wife. The only difference was that one was unruly and the other was a troublemaker. He was already too busy with work to take care of one child, and now he had to take care of two.

Gu Jingxi didn't want to see a situation like today again. He said calmly, "Behave yourself. I might not be here next time."
