The person on the ground finally groaned weakly, and then snorted faintly.
Hao Bai fell to the ground, feeling as if all the strength in his body had been drained.
"Grandmaster, please understand... I only said to heal the dying, but never said to heal the already dead."
He put away the silver needle, calmed down for a while, and turned to check the injury.
She had been struck twice, leaving two sharp cuts on her undergarment, whether by knife or sword. Judging from the damage to the fabric, these two blows were enough to be fatal. Even if her stomach and intestines had not been ruptured, her bones would have been broken.
But her injuries were not that serious. Although there was bleeding, they were by no means incurable.
The only troublesome thing was the bruises on the back of her neck and lower back.
She must have been thrown out with great force, and after losing control of her body, she crashed into the rocks without any buffer.
If it's just bruising, it might be okay, but if it's a spinal injury or a head injury...
"I'm so unlucky that I have to save your life. Grandmaster, please bless me. This is the last time." He stood up and repeated it several times as if to convince himself, "The last time. Yes, the last time..."
He used her torn clothes as strips of cloth and picked up some branches to barely stabilize her head and limbs to prevent the bumps from worsening her injuries.
After doing this, he was about to put the man on his horse. Jixiang had already been waiting nearby, tail wagging, and he knelt down obediently. However, even so, his hands and feet, which had long lacked exercise, were cramped from the exertion.
When he was practicing medicine, he had also encountered situations where God wanted to take people away and he was powerless to do anything, but he had never been involved in matters like handling funerals and moving corpses. Now that he was doing this, he finally understood what "death heaviness" meant.
Once this person loses consciousness, they become as heavy as a dead person. No matter how lively and light as a swallow she was before, now she is no different from a tombstone.
After a lot of sweating, he was finally able to get back on the road.
Leaving this mountain path, we returned to the deep and shallow forest. However, it was already difficult with only one person's weight, and now with another person, it was even more difficult.
The shaking on the horse's back made him feel a little drowsy. After an unknown amount of time, Hao Bai felt that the horse's back, which had been shaking all the time, suddenly stopped.
He wiped the water off his face, and when he looked up and forward, he was stunned.
Perhaps it was because the sound of rain falling through the forest and hitting the leaves was too loud, or perhaps it was because he lowered his head and tried hard to maintain his balance, and was not aware of the surrounding situation for a moment. He felt that he was just in a trance, and the carriage was there.
The carriage looked ordinary, nothing eye-catching or intriguing. The man in the straw raincoat sitting in front of the carriage was even more ordinary and forgettable.
But the more this happens, the more weird the current situation feels.
How did a carriage like this end up here? Was it already here, or did they follow him? Was it a chance encounter, or...
Hao Bai's forehead twitched due to nervousness. He clenched his teeth and dared not make a sound.
Finally, the straw raincoat driver moved.
He took off his straw hat, revealing an ordinary yet somewhat familiar face.
The twitching on Hao Bai's forehead stopped, and then turned into trembling at the corners of his mouth.
"Ding...Ding..."
Before he could figure out what was going on, the door of the carriage behind the other person slowly opened.
"Long time no see, Mr. Qu."
As soon as he heard the name, he knew that the person in front of him was not the "Master Zhongli" he first met, but had another face.
The emperor's dark eyebrows and eyes looked like the Buddha described in the scriptures, but his eyes were like a sharp knife, piercing through the rain curtain and hitting Hao Bai's face, making him shiver.
How could there be someone in this world with such facial features and eyebrows, yet have such an expression?
"I, Qu Mo, the humble servant, pay my respects to Your Majesty."
No one responded in the darkness. The scattered light filtered through the leaves, illuminating the muddy and bumpy ground. Then a distant muffled thunder exploded in the sky.
A chill ran down Hao Bai's spine and up his head. Even when he was faced with an uncertain outcome, he had never been so timid.
"Weixiang, bring the person here."
Ding Weixiang jumped off the carriage, walked in front of him in a few steps, and quickly transferred the woman on the horse to the carriage.
The moment the woman was sent into the carriage, the man, who had always had a cold expression, looked at her like a hook.
He saw that the buttons he had fastened for her on that tender and pleasant morning the day before were now broken. The dark black robe was torn like rags, with dark spots on it that he couldn't tell whether they were mud or blood.
He thought he should rush over there and explore the terrifying nightmare beneath the tattered fabrics. Or he should try his best to wake her up and ask her why she had gotten herself into this state.
But he hesitated.
A strange emotion came over him, and he had never felt this way before.
He knew that emotion was called fear. He was afraid of the answers, afraid of facing her suffering.
In just a moment, he looked away.
There seemed to be someone else in the carriage, and some indistinct whispers could be heard, making the emperor's expression even more unpredictable.
After an unknown amount of time, the whispering stopped and the man's calm voice was heard again.
