Chapter 15: Cutting off the tail to survive

On the seventh day of May, the Zou family, which had been silent for half a month, finally welcomed a happy event.

Mr. Zou woke up, and apart from being a little weak and having some bedsores, he was fine.

Seeing Zou Sifang go from half-dead to able to speak in just one day, Zhao was so happy that her previous unhappiness faded a little. "I didn't expect that despite his young age, he has such advanced medical skills. Did your family run a clinic? Why haven't I heard of it before?"

Hao Bai's face lit up, and he started talking a little more. "Ah, ma'am, you don't know, but my family's Chinese medicine practitioner and I only practice medicine, not run a clinic. Furthermore, our ancestors once established a family precept that we only treat the seriously ill and dying, so we travel around all year round and never stay in one place for too long."

In fact, although he liked to wear white clothes, he was born with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, and had a cheerful and sunny youthful temperament. He was in a good mood at the moment and was even more energetic. Zhao stared at the old man Zou Sifang for a long time, and rarely saw young men. At first, her mind was not on this, but now she came back to her senses, and her face was a little flushed.

"So that's how it is. I was negligent earlier. Please don't blame me, young master." After a pause, Zhao continued, "Although the master has woken up, I'm still a little uneasy. It would be best if you could stay at your house for a few more days. You can take care of him more, and I can also prepare some gifts to thank you for saving my life."

"Hahaha, that's fine, my lady, you've been working so hard these days and you look haggard and thin. Why don't you take a good bath and wash yourself to get rid of the bad luck of these days? I'll leave the master to me. There are a few things that need your attention that I want to tell you in person."

Zhao was eager to leave this dead room, so she politely said, "Thank you very much, sir."

Zhao left two maids to help Hao Bai and hurried back to her room to rest.

When Hao Bai pushed the door open and entered the room, Zou Sifang was having his meal with someone serving him.

After this near-death experience, Zou Sifang deeply realized the benefits of being alive. He was immersed in the joy of a new life, with a bowl of shark fin and bird's nest on his left and a bowl of Ganoderma lucidum and bear's paw on his right, fearing that he would faint again if he was not careful and would never have the chance to enjoy the delicacies of the world again.

Hao Bai walked forward and calmly moved Zou Sifang's half-eaten bowl of bird's nest aside: "Master has just recovered. He can't eat too much of these tonics. Be careful not to heat up the blood and block the heart."

Zou Sifang finally stopped eating, but his eyes were still fixed on the bowl: "It shouldn't be a big deal if we only take a few bites each."

Hao Bai smiled, revealing his white teeth, and ordered the maids around him, "You guys go and see how the medicine the master wants to drink is going. I'm here to check the master's pulse, so it's inconvenient for outsiders to be present."

Several maids looked at each other and thought that this doctor was a powerful figure. Since Master Zou did not want to keep anyone, they did not dare to say anything and retreated one after another.

Hao Bai and Zou Sifang were the only two people left in the room. Zou Sifang was no fool and immediately spoke first: "My recovery this time is due to your contribution. I will definitely not let you go short of money. If you have anything else to ask for, please tell me now."

Seeing that the other party was so straightforward, Hao Bai stopped beating around the bush.

"Master, do you know who is responsible for this turn of events?"

Zou Sifang didn't expect Hao Bai to bring up this topic. He couldn't figure out what the other party was thinking. He rolled his eyes and said, "Of course it's all thanks to you, sir."

Hao Bai shook his head: "Although I have the ability to heal people, if there is no medicine, even the golden hand of the saint will be helpless."

"Sir, why are you so self-deprecating? I heard that the antidote contains a Buddha bone relic, which is very rare. It's a great feat that you were able to find the medicine within a day."

Hao Bai pretended to sigh: "How can an ordinary person have something like a relic? To be honest, the person who gave me the relic is truly an otherworldly master. I'm afraid he had anticipated all this long ago, so I was able to obtain this medicine within a day."

Zou Sifang was surprised by this. "You mean, someone predicted I'd get sick and sent you medicine?"

Hao Bai nodded solemnly: "Indeed. Besides the relic, that person also asked me to pass on some words to the master." At this point, he deliberately lowered his voice, "The master specifically instructed me not to have outsiders present when conveying the message, so as to prevent anyone from influencing the master's thoughts."

Mr. Zou had been doing business for many years and believed in some of these theories about gods and Buddhas. He half-raised his body and motioned Hao Bai to tell him quickly.

Hao Bai cleared his throat and said the most important words.

"An expert said that the master's misfortune this time was caused by taking something he shouldn't have taken."

Zou Sifang's face changed when he heard this. He looked at Hao Bai with some shock and anger: "You, you dare to pry into the news in my house. What are you thinking?"

Hao Bai expected Zou Sifang to be furious, but he remained composed. "Master, what are you talking about? Yesterday, Madam brought people to the Xiong family and made such a scene. By now, I'm sure there are few people in the city who don't know that Master has acquired a precious jade. Why would I bother to inquire?"

Zou Sifang knew this was the truth. He couldn't blame anyone else for the unrest in his own house, but he still felt a little unwilling: "This is my family matter, it has nothing to do with you, sir."

Hao Bai knew the other party had relented, so he immediately said earnestly, "It's precisely because this has nothing to do with me that I'm not speaking for personal gain. The things in the master's hands are precious, but they're also a hazard. If you don't get rid of them quickly, even if you save your life this time, you'll be in danger in the future."

Zou Sifang was afraid of death after all, and his already bad complexion became even more bleak.

Hao Bai calmly picked up three fruits from the fruit plate beside him, rubbed them in his hands, and placed them one by one on the edge of Zou Sifang's bed.
