Chapter 156: Twin Cities Nightmare (Part 2)

The two young monks agreed and pushed each other out of the temple.

Yikong turned around and looked at the person on the pillar, then lowered his head and chanted a Buddhist name, apologized a few times, stood up, picked up the wooden basin, and poured all the water on Lu Songping.

The cold well water poured down from head to toe. Lu Songping took a deep breath and suddenly opened his eyes.

Yikong quickly kicked the wooden basin into the corner, with a concerned look on his face, but he didn't move forward.

"Donor Lu has finally woken up. I was so worried."

Lu Songping took a breath for a while, and his empty eyes gradually focused on the big face of the monk in front of him.

"Master Yikong? Is this... Yongye Temple?"

"Awake?" Hao Bai, who was standing at the palace gate, heard the noise and hurried over. He glanced at the soaked Lu Songping and spoke with a tone of gloating, "Lu Songping, you've come to this day. Back when I fled to Andaoyuan in Wancheng with Su Pingchuan and Wu Xiaoliu, you kept sending people to threaten me, afraid that others wouldn't know you were a governor, using chicken feathers as a token of authority..."

"Mr. Qu, are you feeling a bit irritated by the vegetarian meal?" Lu Songping glanced at Hao Bai, his tone naturally harsh. "But His Majesty summoned you to the capital, and you were away for the better part of a month. Even if you're punished to sweep the toilets in Wangchen Tower, you have to accept it."

Hao Bai's dark face turned red and green with anger. It took him a long while to return to normal and he waved his hand at Yikong.

"It is indeed this bastard."

Yikong then stepped forward and untied the thick hemp rope that tied the prayer flag from Lu Songping, asking questions non-stop.

"Donor Lu, do you still remember what happened earlier?"

Lu Songping was silent for a while, quickly recalling what happened several months ago.

"On the day of the Spring Hunt, I was ordered by His Majesty to intercept Miss Xiao on a small road. Later, because of the night bat incident, we split our forces into three groups to track the bats. The group I was following flew southeast into the deep mountains. I followed it and found a cave embedded in a chasm deep in the mountains. All the night bats had disappeared inside, so I dismounted and went in to investigate. Then..."

Lu Songping suddenly stopped talking here. Hao Bai was impatient and kept urging him to continue.

"And then? What happened then?"

Lu Songping did not continue speaking, but fell into long contemplation.

After a long time, he slowly stood up and looked into the sky.

"What month is it now?"

"Mid-July."

"Is His Majesty in the capital?"

“No.”

"During the spring hunt earlier..." He paused for a rare moment, "Is Miss Xiao okay?"

Hao Bai fell silent for a moment, turned around and left only his back.

"I am in this deep mountain, and I am isolated from all news. If you, Mr. Lu, want to hear a story, you should go down the mountain and find a teahouse to listen to it."

"Well, it's urgent, and I have other important matters to attend to. We can only talk about it another day."

After saying that, Lu Songping really raised his foot and walked away, but the next moment Yikong suddenly spoke again.

"Donor Lu, do you know that when you came here, it was a monk from my temple who went to the foot of the mountain to welcome you. But he has not returned yet."

Lu Songping paused and caught a glimpse of the overly large wooden basin in the corner.

The empty voice on the other side was still muttering slowly, and for some reason it sounded a little eerie.

"My disciple is the best at growing vegetables. The cabbages he grows are green and the radishes are white and plump..."

Lu Songping didn't say anything and drew his sword.

Hao Bai shuddered with fear, but the other party just looked at the bloodstains on the sword carefully in the candlelight, and then put it away.

"The blood on the sword is the same as the blood on my body. It's all heavy blood. It must have been left when I killed the bat in the cave. The people in your temple should be fine."

Yikong finally turned around and made way for them in a friendly manner.

"In that case, please tell him when you come down the mountain, Mr. Lu, to come to me as soon as possible."

"No problem." Lu Songping paused, then suddenly remembered something. "How did I get here?"

******************

The little monk's body was lying motionless in the sedge in front of the stone steps.

After a long time, a small insect that fed on dew flew by, and he couldn't help sneezing.

The surroundings were still quiet. After a while, he finally opened his eyes tremblingly and looked around.

Zou Sifang's body was still lying face down on the ground. The carriage at the foot of the mountain gate was parked there quietly. The skinny old horse was dozing with its front hooves standing up. On the tattered cart behind it, the coffin lid made of wooden boards had been broken into pieces and scattered to the side. There was nothing in the coffin.

Speaking of the abbot, he is very knowledgeable and has a good memory despite being young. He has been taught many Buddhist scriptures over the years, but none of them is as useful as this "playing dead to save life" trick.

He touched the big bump on the back of his head from hitting a rock, and was about to stand up from the grass when suddenly a figure appeared on the mountain path, walking very quickly and approaching him in an instant.

Zhuyu stared at him and felt like crying but had no tears.

Didn't you leave? Why are you back?

He didn't dare to look again and quickly lay back down in his previous position. When he lay down, because he moved too quickly, the swelling that had just swelled up was bumped again, and the pain made him grimace, and he could hardly control his expression.

The footsteps were getting closer, and the man in black armor quickly passed by him and headed straight for the carriage.

"You're really just like your vindictive master." The other person's voice fell lightly, with a hint of nasality. "There are too many mosquitoes in the grass. Lie down somewhere else."

The candlefish opened its mouth, a little stunned.
