Xiao Nanhui thought about it briefly and spoke lightly.
"It seems a bit inconvenient to get the things and then go meet the person. So, please trouble Lieutenant Lu to take me to see that person first."
Lu Songping slowly turned sideways and handed the palace lantern hanging on the front of the car to Xiao Nanhui.
"Miss Xiao, go north along the West Alley. Someone will be waiting for you outside the West Road Gate."
Xiao Nanhui was a little surprised. She looked up at the outline of Jingbo Tower in the night not far away, but still took the palace lantern and jumped out of the car.
Lu Songping drove the carriage away, and the clattering sound of the wheels on the stone road disappeared. Xiao Nanhui held the lantern and slowly walked eastward along the palace wall.
In the long alley, not even the palace servants or the eunuchs could be seen. After walking a hundred steps, she saw a person standing at the end of the road. When she got closer, she turned around and saw that it was Su Pingchuan.
Today he was wearing a neatly tailored and very smart official uniform, with his hair neatly tied up in a crown. He looked completely different from the last time we met.
When he saw her coming, there was still an unconcealable light in his eyes, but the next moment when she called him, the light went out.
"General Zuo."
Su Pingchuan calmed himself down and then returned the greeting.
"Meetings, Master Xiao."
Her official position changed again and again, and even she herself was a little confused, but he still preferred to call her "Lord Xiao" instead of "Miss Xiao".
He was keeping his promise, so there was no reason for her to break it.
"I heard from Attendant Shan that someone wants to see me. Could it be General Zuo?"
Su Pingchuan looked at the frank eyes of the woman in front of him, and the words of confession were on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed them back in the end.
"No." He shook his head gently. "You need to see someone else. I'm here to show you the way."
Xiao Nanhui still had doubts in her heart, but since the other party did not express them actively, she did not want to ask further questions.
The two walked one after the other without saying a word.
After passing through the first palace wall and heading towards the gate guard at the northwest corner, Xiao Nanhui didn't react until he saw the dungeon gate.
She was just wondering who she was going to meet that required the young master of Prince Xuanyuan's mansion to lead the way, but now she understood.
He is a death row inmate.
Furthermore, he was a death row prisoner held in the Guangzhang dungeon under King Xuanyuan. This dungeon was located between two or three palace walls. If he wasn't a high-ranking criminal, he must be related to the Heavenly Family.
When the guards saw Su Pingchuan saluting in unison, they opened the heavy iron doors and let the two of them go deep into the dark dungeon.
There were twenty steps down to the dungeon level. She reached the nineteenth step and suddenly stopped.
She heard a cough.
The person who coughed didn't speak, but even so, she recognized the voice.
She recognized that voice even in a bustling city with hundreds of people.
Su Pingchuan in front noticed her abnormality, stopped, and paused before speaking.
"Mr. Zong brought him back personally. His Majesty is away now, and no one dares to take over. He is now detained in my father's camp. I have almost asked all the questions I need. If there is anything you want to know..."
"You shouldn't have let me see him." Xiao Nanhui's fists creaked, and his voice trembled. "If you let me see him, I will definitely kill him."
Su Pingchuan seemed to know her reaction early on and simply took the palace lantern from her hand.
"His Majesty has already approved his execution this morning. If he is captured alive, he will be handed over to you for disposal. It is up to you to decide whether to go in or not."
He had arranged all this before her? What was this? Was he making arrangements for his final resting place?
She stood on the last stone step, staring at the shadows on the ground that were sometimes bright and sometimes dark, and was silent for a moment.
No problem. Let her walk step by step across the bridge he built for her, and then cross the river she wants to cross.
The jailer guarding the last cell opened the key and retreated. When she passed by Xiao Nanhui, she drew his sword.
"I'll borrow your sword for a moment and return it later."
The jailer was startled, then took a quick look at Su Pingchuan's expression and quickly retreated.
Su Pingchuan took a deep look at the woman's back and then left.
There are only two people left in the huge three-story dungeon.
Xiao Nanhui finally walked down the stone steps, passed through the empty cells, stepped into the only cell with firelight, and looked down at the figure sitting on the stone platform.
He finally changed out of the disgusting purple clothes and, like all the other death row prisoners, changed into prison uniforms made of coarse linen.
She looked at the face coldly. She had thousands of words she wanted to say to accuse him, but in the end she could not say anything. She only felt a burning sensation in her chest, which was unbearable.
clang.
She threw the jailer's sword in front of him.
"Pick it up."
The other party didn't move at all, and didn't even open his eyelids.
The rage finally erupted, burning all the way from her dantian to her throat. She pulled out the armor from her waist and pressed it against the man's throat.
"I told you to pick it up!"
She yelled at the top of her lungs, her hoarse voice echoing in the dungeon.
The person in front of him finally moved, but he just slowly opened his eyes and stared at the cold sword in front of him with his unruly eyes hidden behind his messy hair.
"This mortal sword is not worthy of my use. Kill me if you want. What's the regret of dying at the hands of the legendary sword?"
Xiao Nan smiled back.
I don't know whether to laugh at his almost foolish remarks, or to find it ridiculous that he was still obsessed with a famous sword when he was about to die.
She quickly stepped forward, grabbed the man's collar with one hand, and threw him to the ground. She clenched her five fingers into a fist and was about to strike hard, but her fist stopped half an inch in front of the man's face.
