A crackling sound like ants gnawing at leaves filled the air, and everyone had only time to retreat and fall to the ground. The next moment, a sharp whine of wind spread rapidly from the woman's center, followed by a black flame that seemed to devour everything. The flames spread to the surroundings of the giant pit, then enveloped it upwards and merged into a blazing dome that obscured the sky. Rolling heat waves surged in all directions, creating a scene of hell.
Maybe it was a long time, or maybe just a moment.
Xiao Nanhui struggled to open his eyes amidst the tinnitus and dizziness, and a familiar face came into view. The flames and wind blades seemed to be blocked by an invisible wall, colliding wildly around him and stirring up his long, jet-black hair.
His pupils were dilated and blood was oozing from the corners of his eyes, but his expression remained calm.
She looked into those bloodstained eyes, and all the resentment and anger she had expressed suddenly vanished. She stood up and hugged him tightly.
"Why don't you wait for me to come back?"
He looked at her quietly for a long time before he raised his hand and gently brushed away the messy hair by her ear.
"Aren't you here yet?"
She was so angry and anxious that her voice became a little hoarse.
"I've left everything behind, even my good fortune, to come see you, and you're telling me this?"
He stopped talking, his expression seemed to be filled with a thousand layers of fatigue.
Why didn't he give her the things the old man from the Qu family had handed over? Why didn't he even give her a chance to say goodbye? Didn't he ask her to never leave him? Why did he leave first?
She still had many, many questions to ask him, but she didn't have that much time right now.
She hurriedly wiped away the tears that had just welled up in her eyes, and struggled to get up to pick up the armor that had fallen to the side.
"Don't lie to me again. Let's leave here together, okay?"
He didn't say anything, only his breathing rose and fell softly beside her ears, as gentle as a spring breeze that broke into this late autumn.
She paused, and her eyes, which had just been wiped dry, became red again.
"Why didn't you say anything? Why didn't you say you would leave with me..."
He remained silent, his lips carefully placed on her cheek, picking up the last tear.
She was stunned, and when she came to her senses again, there was something extra in her palm.
Each one was hard and still had his body temperature.
The next moment, a bluish-white hand with chaotic flames pierced through and grabbed his throat from behind, and a face immediately approached.
"You finally stopped pretending to be dead."
The face no longer resembled Bai Yun's. It was blue and purple, swollen and festering, and filled with black energy, like a demon crawling out of hell.
"Is this all you have? Don't try to fool me. You were much more useful back in Seqiu than you are now."
Faced with such a horrifying scene, the man's handsome face only frowned slightly because of the feeling of suffocation.
"Every thought is dangerous. These eight words are engraved in my bones and blood. As long as I don't think, nothing will happen."
"Every thought and action is dangerous. How about I take out your heart and let me see?"
The woman easily lifted him up with one hand using her bony wrist, and raised her other hand, slightly spreading her five fingers, and suddenly reached for the man's heart.
Xiao Nanhui's pupils shrank and his heart trembled violently.
"No!"
She heard her own heart-wrenching screams. She struggled to get closer, but was easily thrown to the ground.
The woman's laughter rose and fell among them, and there was something indescribably morbid about it.
She finally stopped laughing after having laughed enough, then suddenly pulled out her hand, taking out a small piece of flesh from his body. Blood dripped out from the bloody wound, instantly dyeing the emerald green jade under her feet red.
With a slant of her eyes, she looked at the woman struggling in the dust, crawling towards the bronze sword not far away.
"Why rush? He can't die."
She gently raised her hand to her mouth, licked the fishy sweetness on it with her tongue, and narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.
"Learning Buddhism and chanting sutras with such precious flesh and blood is a complete waste."
The air around the man began to twist and tremble. The blood no longer dripped from the wound, but instead stretched into thin threads in the air. The pain caused a cold sweat to break out on his forehead, wetting his dark eyebrows. He pursed his pale lips.
"You will never know what is hidden in the secret seal. When greed arises, it will bring harm to yourself. You will regret it."
With a click, the outer layer of the mechanism wrapped in emerald green split into two halves, and a soft green light emerged from the depths of the square jade seal.
"Regret? How dare you, a mortal, speak so recklessly? The Qiu family dug their own graves, clearly having the power to rule the world but abandoning it. Now I only need to open the seal, and thousands of gods will be with me. No one in the world can rival me! Thousands of flesh and blood will be at my disposal, and I will gain eternal life!"
There was a brief pause in the air, and the young emperor finally raised his head slowly, with an almost indifferent look in his eyes.
"If I die, there will be no one left to serve as your vessel. I wonder where the thousands of gods you speak of will end up?"
Xiao Nanhui looked down at her waist, but her dagger had disappeared without a trace. She looked up in surprise.
No, don't!
She didn't want to go through this again, she didn't want to.
He took off his armor and flew out, knocking the dagger out of the man's hand with a clang.
The unrecognizable woman laughed loudly.
"Wu Shan was conceited about his intelligence, but he underestimated the human heart. This is the narrow-mindedness, cowardice, and shortsightedness of mortals. They are vulnerable!" A gurgle came from the depths of her throat. She picked up the jade seal with one hand and dragged the dying man to the center of the huge pit with the other. "Now you don't even have the chance to die. You lose."
