Chapter 20: True or False (Part 1)

The wind whistled past his ears as Xiao Nanhui looked down at the city of Murhe in the night, and the Hun River winding away. He suddenly understood why literati and poets always loved to ascend heights to recite poetry. The scenery from this height changed with the changing of day and night, and the alternation of sunshine and rain. It truly was different every minute.

"Thank you for your hard work, Brother Yao."

Xiao Nanhui turned around fiercely and saw Zhongli, dressed in black, sitting on the only intact roof of the Pingxiao Tower. He looked at her cleanly and tidyly, almost with compassion.

Of course, if Ding Weixiang, who was covered in blood and wiping his knife behind her, had not been there, she might have been able to convince herself that the moment was a beautiful day.

"Did you tamper with the lamp oil?"

Zhongli actually lowered his eyes. The Youyin Altar under the high tower was no longer on fire. Only a few scattered flames were moving around. Those were people holding torches to clean up the scene.

"That's not oil, that's water."

"How did the water boil?"

The man stood up and brushed off the ashes on his clothes. "What's burning is the layer of oil floating on the water. Once the oil is burned out, the fire will naturally go out."

Xiao Nanhui was a little upset: "Why didn't you tell me earlier? When the fire was out, I almost thought I was dead."

Zhongli actually lifted the hem of his clothes lightly and walked towards Xiao Nanhui. The tiles under his feet made a "crackling" sound, as if they would collapse in the next second. Xiao Nanhui was a little frightened just by looking at him, but the other party, who had no martial arts foundation, didn't care at all.

He walked close enough, so close that Xiao Nanhui felt that if he dodged, he would fall. The other party finally stopped and whispered, "You don't believe me?"

Although the other party was clearly in the wrong, Xiao Nanhui became somewhat vague when asked: "That's not the case..."

"Wipe your face." Before she could utter a few words, a half-wet handkerchief suddenly hit her face. A familiar voice rang out beside her ear: "After today, those who share our beliefs in Murhe City will undoubtedly be wary. Let's take advantage of this opportunity to quickly get things done. What do you say, Brother Yao?"

"You've arranged it so clearly, why ask me?" Xiao Nanhui ripped off the handkerchief. It was stained with blood, where the priest had drawn on her face. She actually wanted to find a mirror to see what was on her forehead, but if someone saw her with such a face, it wouldn't be a good idea. After thinking about it, she wiped it vigorously.

Ding Weixiang, perched on a beam not far away, had been bending over, fiddling with something. Now that he seemed to have finished, he stood up and gestured to Zhongli. Xiao Nanhui squinted at the master and servant, feeling that he needed to be cautious.

"This..." Xiao Nanhui took out the box he had been holding tightly in his hand and shook it. "I'll keep it here for now. Is that okay with you guys?"

Ding Weixiang said nothing, only looking at Zhongli Jing. Zhongli Jing's face showed no emotion at all, and he nodded calmly: "It's okay."

No problem, no problem, no problem.

You are really open-minded. Nothing matters.

Xiao Nanhui didn't bother to guess what the other person was up to. She looked around and realized that it would have taken her nearly half an hour to climb to this height during the day. But when Ding Weixiang had brought her up just now, it had only taken a few blinks of an eye.

Just as she was thinking about it, a delicate chain was fastened around her waist with a "click".

Xiao Nanhui raised his eyes and met Ding Weixiang's expressionless face.

Did Ding Weixiang just use this to bring her up? She said, how could someone be so good at Qinggong that he could jump to the height of a five-story building? He still needs some external force.

"There's only one shuttle chain. This one is for you. I'll take my master down that way."

After saying that, the man turned and walked towards Zhongli Jing. The latter glanced at her vaguely, with a hint of smile on his lips. However, before she could see clearly, the two of them jumped down together and completely disappeared into the thick night.

Xiao Nanhui stood there in a daze, lifting the chain around his waist and looking around.

This thing...how to use it?

******************

It is not yet the hour of Yin, nor the hour of Mao. As the night draws to a close, the darkness is at its darkest.

This year's Zhu Ming Festival was really unusual. Not only did we see two "priests" fighting on the same stage, but someone was killed in the final ceremony. The crowds who came to watch the excitement returned home earlier than in previous years. The children, who had nothing to do, fell asleep tired after playing, leaving the worried adults still lighting candles and whispering about what had just happened.

On the other side of a stone bridge, the old town of Murhe was silent.

Amidst the darkness and dilapidated houses, the scattered lights looked like ghost lights.

Xiao Nanhui cut off a piece of the moldy and damp wick, replaced the lamp oil, and then lit the only lamp in the room.

She held up the lamp and looked around. Apart from the bed in the corner that was about to fall apart, the place was almost empty. The man said this used to be a teahouse, but she really couldn't see any trace of a teahouse here.

Hao Bai seemed to have been waiting for them here for a long time. There was not even a chair in the room. He was sitting on a stone block that had been moved in, rubbing his hands.

"Where's the Shrike? Hasn't he arrived yet?"

Hao Bai smiled and replied, "I asked her to do something, so she might be delayed for a while, but she should be here soon. How's it going? Did you get the things?"

Zhongli actually winked at Ding Weixiang, who understood and went out to keep watch. Xiao Nanhui slowly took out the box and signaled Hao Bai to clear out the only "table" in the room.

Hao Bai had obviously been covering that area with his butt for a long time, and finally warmed it up, but now he was completely unwilling to do so.
