Chapter 46: Death of King Kang

Xiao Nanhui looked around, found a flat surface and sat cross-legged: "It depends on your performance later."

There was another silence, and then a long while later, an echo came.

"What do you want to ask?"

"Were you on duty in the palace on the day King Kang was assassinated?"

Across the dark and obscure space, Xiao Nanhui clearly felt the figure in the corner shudder.

"I, I didn't see anything."

Xiao Nanhui frowned. "I haven't asked yet, why are you so anxious? Who were the guests at the banquet that day?"

“So many people…”

"Nonsense, who are they?" I asked you.

Xiao Nanhui felt that the other party might have been mentally stimulated and his answers were incoherent.

However, after being a servant for so long, reporting details has become his instinct. Deputy Manager Lan can call out people's names more efficiently than the waiters in the restaurant who call out the names of dishes.

Xiao Nanhui listened quietly for a moment, then suddenly interrupted, "Wait a minute, there were sixteen people including the servant A Kuang. Who is this A Kuang? Why is a servant allowed to enter the palace? And how can someone have the surname A?"

"A Kuang is an old man in the palace. His original name is difficult to pronounce, so King Kang gave him the name A Kuang. Although he is a menial servant, he is deeply favored by King Kang. Whenever there is a banquet in the palace, he will be responsible for one or two of the programs. He has some unconventional ways and can always find some new and interesting things to win credit for himself."

Xiao Nanhui finally caught on to something: "Folk artists' identities should be strictly verified, but you didn't report their names just now. Doesn't Lu Songping care about such an oversight?"

Deputy Steward Lan smiled almost vindictively. "Prince Kang doesn't like him, so what if he's the governor? He's still worse than a mere errand boy." Then a thought occurred to him, and the smile faded. "He's lucky he didn't even enter the palace when he was right there."

"Wait a minute." Xiao Nanhui's expression changed, and he leaned forward. "You said Tianlu Songping is actually in another palace?"

"That's right. King Kang didn't invite him to the banquet that day, but for some reason, he showed up uninvited. I heard the eunuch outside the palace announce his name, but no one came in for a long time. I thought something had gone wrong and was about to go out to check, but then... just..."

His voice suddenly choked, the eyes on his skinny face opened wider, and his shackled hands trembled as he held his head.

Only then did Xiao Nanhui notice that two fingers on his right hand were missing.

The wound looked shriveled and blackened, as if it had been cut off by someone.

For some reason, when Xiao Nanhui looked at the wound, he felt that it looked familiar.

She was about to open her mouth to ask for clarification when suddenly everything around her darkened and a shadow appeared at the window behind her, blocking half of the moonlight.

Xiao Nanhui felt cold sweat breaking out on his back.

His breathing is as if nothing, his movements are silent. What a master of internal martial arts.

"Who is so elegant that he has to wait until this dark and windy time to reminisce with Lord Lan?"

Xiao Nan turned half of his head to look behind him. The man was standing with his back to the light, his face was pitch black.

But she knew that voice.

An hour ago, she heard with her own ears that this man told his men that he wanted to leave the palace.

That was the voice of Kishu Makika Matsudaira.
