Chapter 55 What is Love?

The next morning, the Sun Mansion was silent, and the air was filled with the foul smell of alcohol after the revelry.

In Tian Weiler's secluded courtyard, a figure sneaked out of the house. She was wearing a maid's clothes, but her hair was loose.

She tiptoed past the two sleeping servants and maidservants, looked around, and then walked out of the yard.

Hearing the footsteps fade away, Xiao Nanhui opened his eyes, looked at Wu Xiaoliu who was sleeping soundly beside him, stood up and followed him out of the yard.

Tian Weiler's steps became more hurried and her heart beat faster.

This was the first time she had changed her clothes without help. Her wedding dress was too conspicuous, and the hairpin in her bun was too dignified, so she simply changed them both. Unfortunately, she didn't know how to style her bun so she could wear the hairpin she loved.

But these little worries disappeared when she thought about the person she was about to meet.

The smile on her lips seemed to be mingled with honey, and her steps had completely lost the dignity of a lady from a noble family, as she practically jogged all the way.

The separate courtyards for distinguished guests in the Sun Mansion were all located on the east side to prevent the scorching sun from setting in the west from making the house too hot.

Although the seven or eight courtyards are separated from each other, they are actually connected. Only the courtyard closest to the inner side has a back door to facilitate the entry and exit of servants who sweep the floor.

At this time, the masters of each courtyard and room were still asleep. Apart from the maids and servants on night watch, no servant would be so foolish as to clean the courtyard at this time. However, a figure stood at the back door of the other courtyard.

The man swayed left and right, hesitating restlessly, looking to both sides of the corridor from time to time.

After a while, Tian Weiler's figure appeared at the end. When she saw the man at the back door, the excitement and joy that had been suppressed on her face for a long time finally overflowed.

"Han Lang!"

Jia Han's face, which was pale due to lack of sleep, finally flushed a little because of the call. He carefully grabbed the hand of the girl who was running towards him, but did not dare to touch her body.

"Weier."

The girl hurriedly held her lover's hand, as if she had thousands of words to say, but when they came to her lips, they turned into grievances and sorrow, and tears fell before she opened her mouth.

The man panicked and wiped away his tears, his eyes filled with both heartache and regret: "Wei'er, don't cry. It's all my fault. I should have come to you earlier."

Tian Weier shook her head and finally said in a low voice: "It's great that you can come."

Jia Han gently brushed the girl's soft hair, feeling a sore and painful feeling in his heart. He gritted his teeth and said, "I will definitely take you away from here."

Tian Weiler thought of what her lover said at the banquet last night. She was delighted and moved. Just as she was about to say something, she suddenly heard two muffled groans from the grass beside the corridor behind her, followed by the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground.

The couple, who were deeply in love, were startled. Jia Han tried to remain calm and forced himself to turn his head slowly to look at the scene behind him, but he only had time to see a pair of feet being slowly dragged into the grass.

"Who, who's there?"

Jia Han's voice was a little trembling, but no one responded in the grass, only a rustling sound was heard.

He took a breath and spoke louder this time: "Who is it..."

Just as he uttered two words, a person stood up from the bushes with a "whoosh".

"Stop yelling, do you want everyone to come out and watch?"

Tian Weier stared at the maid who was only wearing a middle coat with wide eyes, and felt that she looked familiar: "Why are you here..."

Xiao Nanhui made a gesture to keep quiet, pricked up his ears and listened, making sure that no one was nearby. Then he waved to Jia Han impatiently.

"Come and lend a hand."

Jia Han was stunned for a moment and then walked forward, only to find three or four men who looked like guards lying in the grass.

"Drag them behind the bushes where they can't be seen."

After a busy moment, Xiao Nan glanced back at Mr. Jia, who was still in a daze, and said, "Do you think Mr. Sun is letting you stay here because he's really considering selling you the person?"

The other party looked convinced: "Isn't it?"

Taking a deep breath, Xiao Nanhui decided to wake up this somewhat slow-witted "stupid young man": "The Tian family is not a slave family, and the one marrying her is not a sold prostitute. Where does the indenture come from? Without a indenture, and the Sun family is marrying her in a formal ceremony, even if you pay the money and take her away, the Sun family can snatch her back at any time."

Master Jia's face turned pale again: "How, how could this be?"

"What's more, I think that Sun, seeing how generous you are, might want to take you into custody as well. Just now, you were secretly meeting with one of his women. If I hadn't dealt with the people who were waiting in ambush in time, I would have caught you red-handed and accused you of abducting a bride and eloping. If you want to live, your family will have to pay a ransom."

Tian Weier, who was listening on the side, also turned pale: "Then what should we do?"

Xiao Nanhui held up two fingers. "You have two choices. The first is that you return to be Magistrate Sun's wife and never think of eloping again. Master Jia, find an excuse, whether it's going home to get money or your father is seriously ill. In short, leave this place immediately and never come back."

She paused and was about to say the second word when Tian Weiler interrupted her with a firm look on her face.

"No need to say, let's choose the second one."

Xiao Nanhui blinked and felt that the girl in front of him was actually much more determined than she looked.

An incense stick later, at the sentry post near the back door of the Sun Mansion, the guard who had been on duty for several hours at night was feeling tired. He saw his successor coming from afar, and a trace of doubt arose in his heart.
