Chapter 59 Meeting an Old Friend in a Foreign Land

Perhaps it had been too long since he had returned to Lingxi, and this time when he came back, Xiao Nan recalled many past events that had been dormant in his memory.

She had a very long dream.

The first half of my life in the dream was a struggle in sand and chaos, vaguely containing fragments of my childhood.

Later in the dream, her vision finally cleared, but she was still dazed and didn't know where she was. The furnishings of the courtyard were clearly her own courtyard from the time she was in the Marquis of Quecheng Mansion. She was hungry, and her mouth was dry and bitter. She picked up the teapot on the table, but it poured out a cup of sand, and then she left the courtyard.

Uncle Chen, Dujuan, Shrike, Xiao Zhun—none of them were there. No one in the vast courtyard answered her. She passed through one moon gate after another, and suddenly saw a rice jar standing alone in the yard ahead. She walked over and saw that there was not a single grain of rice inside.

At this time, a group of people rushed out from all directions and surrounded her. She looked carefully and found that the leader was the prefect Sun.

Sun Taishou was calm and composed, his voice as resounding as a bell: "You little rice thief, you actually stole from my house! Beat her to death!"

Xiao Nanhui was anxious to explain that she hadn't stolen his rice, but when she opened her mouth, she found herself speechless. The people around her were surrounding her with sticks in hand. She wanted to resist, but when she stretched out her fists, she realized they were the hands of a child.

A pair of small hands covered with dirty mud, yellow and skinny.

The figures around seemed exceptionally tall, and a huge stick was about to fall on his head when suddenly, a ray of moonlight flashed by.

She looked up in a daze and saw a person with radiant light, dressed in flawless white, with smiling eyes and eyebrows, like a fairy in the ninth heaven.

The fairy smiled at her, waved her sleeves, and the people around her disappeared.

Xiao Nan thought about asking if they had met before, but he remained silent, only able to open his mouth and move it up and down.

Seeing that the fairy was about to turn around and leave, she got anxious and reached out to grab her clothes.

The fairy slowly turned around and suddenly spoke, but it was a man's voice.

"Xiao Nanhui, stop touching me, take your hand away."

Xiao Nanhui was startled and suddenly could speak.

She heard herself hum faintly, and then she woke up.

What she saw was a tall, simple roof made of thin poplar wood. The sparse thatch failed to block the sunlight, and a few strands of it just happened to fall on her legs. This sight distracted her, and the dream just now quickly faded away. She couldn't grasp it at all, leaving only a strange feeling.

She tried to move her ankles, and two white balls like rice dumplings swayed with two bows on them.

What barefoot doctor's work is this? It's fucking terrible...

Just as she was thinking, she heard some noise from the direction of the door. She subconsciously reached for her back, but felt nothing, so she had to lie back down.

Just as I was about to close my eyes, someone stepped into the room. It seemed that there was more than one person, and there was a little noise, like the sound of a wooden barrel rolling on the ground.

A familiar, almost annoying voice sounded at the door: "Are you done?"

"Yes, it was made this morning and just arrived. Is he awake?"

No one answered. Xiao Nanhui only heard the footsteps approaching the bed. He tried hard to control his trembling eyelids and slowed down his breathing.

The person seemed to stop by the bed, and after a few rustlings, Xiao Nanhui felt someone take her hand out from under the quilt. She was feeling a little strange when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her finger.

She screamed "Ah" and sat up on the bed uncontrollably.

What caught my eye was Wu Xiaoliu's fat face, which looked stupid yet shrewd. At this moment, there was a hint of joy in his small eyes, making him look like a groundhog seeing a carrot.

"You're awake!"

Xiao Nanhui raised her finger and saw a thick sewing needle sticking out of her thumb. She was furious.

"Why did you stab me?! Are you trying to see if I'm dead?"

"This is what the doctor ordered. He said to give it a shot every day and we can tell if the patient is awake or not."

She quickly stretched out all ten fingers and saw that there were indeed three or four needle holes. She pulled out the needle and threw it aside: "Where did you find this doctor? Is the patient he treated before still alive?"

"Alive, alive! Everyone is waiting outside." After saying that, Wu Xiaoliu, without even looking at Xiao Nanhui's expression, shouted, "God bless you! The gods have appeared! Village Master Pan has woken up!"

Before Xiao Nanhui could react, the door of the room was kicked open from the outside with a bang, and a large group of men, women, young and old were standing outside.

Three or four bearded Southern Qiang men with complicated expressions were the first to kneel down on one knee and shout in Southern Qiang dialect.

"The gods appear!"

The crowd fell to their knees with a loud noise, and the sounds of various tones and dialects mixed together and became noisy.

Xiao Nanhui was startled by the scene. She pushed Wu Xiaoliu and lowered her voice: "Hey, explain yourself clearly. Who is the village chief?"

Wu Xiaoliu didn't even raise his head: "You."

She was stunned for a moment: "Where is this?"

Wu Xiaoliu half-raised his fat face and winked, "Master Pan, why are you confused? This is your village."

Oh, right. She almost forgot that she was originally going to come to Pan Meir's village.

Xiao Nan's throat tightened a bit, and this time he spoke in Lingdong Mandarin: "Did you lie to them and say I was Pan Meir?"

Wu Xiaoliu stood up, and his fat body blocked the inquiring gazes outside the door.

"How could that be? I said you're Pan Yaoer, Pan Meir's biological sister." After a pause, the other party added stubbornly, "Didn't you say that yourself?"
