There are many strange legends in the Lingxi area, one of the most popular of which is the legend of Kuyi turning into a dragon.
It is said that in ancient times, Lingxi was far from being as dry as it is today. The hills here were covered with wetland jungles, and rare and exotic animals could be found everywhere.
The Kuyi clan is a tribe of animal tamers. It is said that everyone in the clan can understand the language of animals and birds, and even rare beasts that few people have ever seen will appear at their call.
However, things happen unexpectedly. It seemed that God also felt that such talent was an act against the will of heaven and intended to destroy the Kuyi clan. Lingxi, which had always had good weather, was suddenly hit by a rainstorm. Dark clouds covered the sky for several months. The pouring rain caused the river water to surge and overflow the river channel. The wetland turned into a lake, and the lakes expanded and connected. The whole Lingxi was soon flooded.
The Kuyi clan was trapped on a lonely mountain, and the clan, young and old, were waiting to die in fear. The clan leader was overwhelmed with grief and knelt on the top of the mountain, prostrating himself on the ground to show his submission to the gods, and then committed suicide on the edge of the cliff as a blood sacrifice, hoping to gain the gods' forgiveness.
Perhaps it was this humble and tearful request that moved the gods. The patriarch's body, which fell from the cliff into the flood, emitted a dazzling light. Then a huge bixi emerged from the water. It carried the rest of the Kuyi clan, saving them from the flood, and led them to a new continent. Then it disappeared into the ocean.
From then on, the descendants of Kuyi regarded Bei as a god. Every year on the day when the miracle happened, they would offer sacrifices to commemorate the life that their ancestors had fought for them.
This is the legend of Kuyi's transformation into Bei.
How did Xiao Nanhui come up with this legend?
Because she now feels like she is the turtle.
No, she is not even a turtle, she is just a poor bastard.
She dragged Hao Bai with her left hand, Su Pingchuan with her right, and carried Wu Xiaoliu on her shoulder as they rushed eastward. Sanmu Pass was now in an ambiguous state and could not be crossed. Famang Ridge was the site of the battle between the two factions, so the only option was to cross the Tianmu River and leave in a southeasterly direction.
She nearly died there while crossing the river.
Although the rivers and lakes in western Lingnan never freeze, the water in the coldest days of winter is still so cold that it hurts her bones. She didn't dare cut some wood to make a raft. A raft with four people on it would be too conspicuous, so she could only swim across.
Except for her, the other three were all landlubbers, some were injured and some were disabled. She could only carry one person at a time from one shore to the other. No matter how good a swimmer she was, by the third time she had crossed, her hands and feet were numb from the cold, and her lungs were almost frozen.
She relied on self-hypnosis to cover the last few feet, hypnotizing herself into believing she was the legendary turtle. She finally reached the other side in one breath and brought the three people to a relatively safe place.
After crossing the Tianmu River, she began to move away from Bijiang. The night she left the riverbank, she almost couldn't control her relief and slept for a whole day and night. When she woke up again, Wu Xiaoliu was able to sit up by herself and sip some dry food soaked in hot water.
His thick body of fat saved his life. The slash from the air or something cut from his left shoulder to his right waist, but miraculously did not hurt any vital parts.
Of course, Hao Bai's contribution was also crucial. Even in such dire circumstances, he managed to find strange herbs from all over, mix them with the strange powders in his small medical kit, and then apply them all to Wu Xiaoliu's skin. It smelled truly unpleasant, but the skin and flesh were visibly growing.
Su Pingchuan's poison has been almost cured, and he can now walk without help. It will probably take less than ten days or half a month for him to be in the state where he can fight with her vigorously.
Logically, everything was getting better, and they had indeed escaped death and survived. But Xiao Nanhui always had a small dark cloud hanging in his heart, and his dreams were filled with gloom.
What was that slash from the air? How was it connected to that dangerous flying line? What was Puhuna's purpose?
Also, there's the matter Su Pingchuan mentioned.
She was no longer in Bijiang, but Yexiao knew people and would definitely find a way to follow her. She just didn't know how long it would take, so she had to figure out what to do next as soon as possible before that.
After leaving the Tianmu River basin, the surrounding scenery turned into the desolate Gobi Desert. On the endless sandy and gravelly plains, not even a lizard could be seen. Fortunately, dark clouds drifting in from the north blocked the sun, and the air seemed to be less dry.
But Xiao Nanhui knew that they had to get out of the desert quickly. If it snowed, their situation would become even more difficult.
At this moment, their location had deviated from the road back to Tongcheng and was almost reaching the Bailu Hills in the southwest of Lingnan. If her estimate was correct, as long as they crossed the hills, they would be able to reach Wancheng.
However, although the White Deer Hills sounds very beautiful, it is actually a maze with twists and turns that is difficult to escape. Without a guide, it is possible to die in it.
After some thought, Xiao Nanhui led his three companions to temporarily camp at the edge of the hill.
At night, she lit a bonfire, called the three people over, and sat down around the bonfire.
A few days ago, fearing pursuit, they dared not use an open fire and could only boil water with embers. Now, with this ball of warmth, they felt comfortable even in the wilderness.
The firelight illuminated the tired faces of the four people, and she saw that Hao Bai's white clothes had turned gray.
"Time is running out, so I'll be brief." Xiao Nanhui built a windbreak around the fire with stones, carefully protecting the flames. "You'll have to walk the rest of the way on your own."
The air was quiet for a moment, and then Wu Xiaoliu spoke incredulously. His tone was surprised, but because of his weak voice, it sounded flat.
"You're going to abandon us?"
"The Bai Clan's men shouldn't be chasing us. I'll have someone take you to Wancheng. She'll be there in three or four days, so you just need to wait where you are. She'll also bring some food and water, enough to get you through the White Deer Hills."
