Chapter 70: Night Hunt of One Hundred Demons (Part 2)

What pain? What regret? It's all an illusion.

The person in front of me is just a stone without any emotions at all.

Zhu Tingmao gritted his teeth and finally struggled, "There is no direct evidence against me in this matter, why is Your Majesty unwilling to let it go..."

"My dear, you are confused. I have never claimed to be a wise ruler. I only rely on personal testimony, not external evidence. If your death was truly unjust, I will wait a hundred years before returning to the underworld to apologize to you."

What? He refuses to accept it! He clearly hasn't been exposed, why... why...

"Come here. Send Master Zhu on his way."

The footsteps of the black-feathered guards were heard outside the tent, and Zhu Tingmao finally couldn't bear it anymore.

He was standing in the inner part of the tent, only five or six steps away from the emperor. Now that the matter was exposed, he had no chance of survival. A fierce light flashed in his eyes and his men took action.

The black-feathered soldiers who were trying to capture him felt a lightness in their hands, and Zhu Tingmao unexpectedly broke free from the ropes and suddenly rushed towards the position where the emperor was standing like a slippery fish.

Everything happened so quickly that Yan Guang and the others were horrified and only had time to draw their swords.

Zhu Tingmao's mouth curled up in a proud arc, and a sharp finger knife appeared on his fingertips. He went straight to the unarmed throne emperor.

Three steps, two steps, one step...

Three inches, two inches, half an inch...

He stared at the knife light at his fingertips, but found that it could not move forward even a millimeter no matter what.

The blade was hanging in front of the emperor's throat. The murderous aura and the strong wind lifted the hair hanging on his shoulders, but could not blow away the emotions in his eyes.

Zhu Tingmao stared at those eyes, and gradually felt a sense of confusion and fear in his heart.

How could someone have such a look in their eyes with a knife at their throat? So calm and composed, like a dead person.

A belated pain came from his ribs. Zhu Tingmao slowly lowered his head and saw a long knife piercing through the tent behind the emperor and stabbing straight into his left chest.

He didn't notice anything, didn't hear anything, as if the knife appeared out of thin air and pierced into his body in just a moment. Even the blood took a moment to flow out, spreading along the strange patterns on the knife.

The emperor finally moved.

He slowly stood up, raised his hand to take off the knife ring on Zhu Tingmao's finger, and held it under his nose, seemingly observing it carefully.

"Master Zhu, this is truly an eye-opener. I've been your lord and subject for years, and I had no idea you had such an exquisite gadget. I guess we rarely interact, and that's alienated our friendship. Isn't that right?"

Zhu Tingmao tried to speak, but blood foam trickled down his lips as he opened them. His arms drooped, his legs weakened, and he felt as if he were hanging on the long sword. But the sword was withdrawn the next second, as swiftly as it had appeared.

He knelt heavily in front of the emperor's boots, unable to lift his heavy head. He could only hear the low voice ringing above his head, as if urging his life.

"Don't worry, my dear. We haven't finished talking yet. I won't let you die."
