Because he traveled around with the army for many years, Xiao Nanhui had visited many places with magnificent scenery in his life.
Most of the Subei Camp is stationed in the northern border. The northern border is a desolate place with continuous snow-capped mountains and tranquil blue lakes. There are all kinds of magnificent scenery there. She has seen dozens of them.
She thought that there would be no scenery that could amaze her except the sea, which she had not yet seen.
It was not until a few months ago that she, thanks to the help of Governor Sun, reached the legendary Biemeng Cave.
That night, her attention was all on the Magistrate Sun, Pan Meir, and the bride Tian Weir who was about to marry the jackal. She didn't even glance at the surrounding scenery, but it left a deep impression on her mind.
She remembered the beautiful red and purple colors on the rock walls, layer upon layer, interwoven together, winding and flowing across the ceiling and the ground. They were not artificial traces that could be carved or rendered, but formed by years of wind and sand deposition.
The fact that it has been able to last from ancient times to the present day is unique and is a gift from nature.
Her ancestors admired the natural scenery and believed that only it was eternal, and she agreed with this.
But if this scenery created by nature is also sculpted by a talented person who is extraordinary and extraordinary, who would dare to say that it would not be as beautiful as this beautiful land?
Legend has it that there once was a mad painter gifted with eyes that could discern the world's most beautiful sights. His paintings depicted men and women with enchanting passions, anger, and laughter, captivating even the mere glance of their backs. His landscapes, each a picture of nature, seemed so seamlessly formed that it felt as if one were transported there. However, he was not content with mere human beauty; his lifelong wish was to glimpse the divine presence.
He pleaded with the gods that he would be willing to give up half of his life's light just to see the beautiful buildings in the sky and listen to the stories of gods and demons that mortals could not write.
Finally, his wish was heard by a passing god, who granted his wish and took him to the divine realm to stay for three days and three nights. Then, as agreed, he took away his eyes that contained the most beautiful things in the world.
The painter was very excited when he returned to the mortal world. He told everyone he met about what he saw and heard in the divine world, but no one was willing to believe his absurd story. Everyone thought he was a madman because he was blind.
Gradually, the painter stopped talking. He transformed his life's wealth into gold and gems, and disappeared with this wealth into the desolate desert. Some say that the painter died of hunger and thirst in the desert sands long ago, while others say that he was robbed of his wealth and life by bandits upon entering the desert. Still others say that he had already reached the promised land of his dreams, where he painted what he saw and heard in heaven with indelible gold.
Xiao Nanhui came across this story in an old book by chance in Yao Yi's small room filled with junk.
Most of these legends were vague and illusory, without even a single decent name of a person or place, let alone any detailed research. She didn't really like these weird stories, she just read them for fun.
But now, she often has doubts of one kind or another, and often feels that the answers to those doubts may be in the legends, but people are unwilling to believe them and deliberately treat them as entertainment.
Take the present moment for example, she figured out one thing because of this legend.
The landform of Seqiu was so unique that she had only seen a similar rock face in one other place before: that was the Farewell Dream Cave of Magistrate Sun.
It is actually a bit inappropriate to call it Sun Taishou's Bie Meng Ku. After all, he was just a cuckoo occupying the magpie's nest, and Bie Meng Ku might not be called this name at all. He just found some sarcastic poems by literati and forced it to happen.
But who would have thought that this Biemeng Cave was located in this ancient place called Seqiu?
Xiao Nanhui led the emperor to move carefully among the hillocks. It was already dark when they arrived for the meeting that night. She only vaguely remembered that there was a large patch of sheep grass near the cave, and wondered if it was planted by the people sent by the prefect Sun.
After searching around for a while, she actually found the entrance to a cave. Thinking she had found the right place, she excitedly went in, only to discover that this was not the dream cave she had visited that night, but just a small cave that was a little similar.
It's better to be around than to have nowhere to hide, so she led the emperor deeper into the cave.
Without the candlelight, the cave was murky and dark, illuminated only by a tiny ray of light from the rock face overhead, which barely illuminated a small area. Soon, the sunlight would be blocked from entering, and the place would be completely dark.
In addition to making some torches and other things for lighting, the top priority is still water and food.
The scene of the evening banquet hosted by the Grand Administrator Sun for hundreds of people seemed to have happened just yesterday. She only had to look up to see the fat old man sitting in front of her and the few hairs on his head.
Thinking of the delicious food and wine that night and the aroma of food in the air, she felt that she had to give it a try no matter what. Although more than three months had passed since the banquet in Biemeng Cave, she knew that the turtle-like nature of Sun Taishou guarding the golden mountain meant that there must still be a lot of food in this place.
She could sense a faint current of air, perhaps proving that these caves, large and small, were naturally connected. She hadn't just entered another dream cave, but perhaps it wasn't far away. The highly similar murals on the walls were the best evidence.
After cheering up, she told the emperor not to wander around, and then she took the string and went to explore other parts of the cave.
The cave concentrated sounds, and sometimes even the slightest noise could cause a large ripple that would linger and echo for a long time. She walked with trepidation, often stopping to listen for a while before continuing.
As the sun set, the light inside the cave gradually dimmed. Unwilling to use the last bit of cloth to make a torch, she could only grope her way forward. Finally, she reached a large, open cavern. The rock walls had obvious signs of man-made grooves, seemingly intended for candles, but left there before they could be made. It seemed the cave had been abandoned long ago.
