Chapter 87: Descendants

Xiao Nanhui hadn't slept much in three days, having traveled tirelessly and been extremely nervous. The jar of stale wine had left her feeling a bit tired after letting out her emotions. Furthermore, having been exposed to the elements, the feeling of having a roof over her head now made her relax.

Although she repeatedly reminded herself to stay awake, she still fell into a brief sleep.

She was not dreaming, but in a daze, she seemed to hear a sharp cry coming from a very far away place through the layers of rock walls, and then she woke up suddenly.

After listening carefully for a while, she was sure that she was not sleepy.

It's the sound of a night owl.

The joy she felt at this moment was difficult to express in words. She felt that the dark sky around her was about to brighten up.

Following the direction of the wind, she quickly found the nearest cave leading to the outside and stuck her head out.

The hills not far away were still shrouded in darkness, and the skyline was faintly tinged with light green, the color of the morning light.

As soon as she stuck her head out, the chirping sound instantly became closer. She tilted her head back and looked towards the sky, and sure enough, she saw a round figure circling in the air.

She blew a short, quick whistle, and the figure dived and quickly landed in front of her.

Looking at that familiar, round figure, Xiao Nanhui's eyes filled with tears. If the creature in front of her wasn't a pockmarked beast, she might have given it a big hug.

The night owl raised one foot and scratched the two whiskers on its head impatiently, as if urging her to prepare the message quickly, as it was in a hurry to get on with its journey.

Xiao Nanhui was in a dilemma. She couldn't find a pen or paper, not even an inch of white cloth. She tore off a piece of her dress, which was so short it couldn't be any shorter. She then used some charcoal from last night's burn and wrote the words "Seqiu" on the cloth. After a moment's thought, she felt it still wasn't specific enough, so she turned it over and wrote "Cave."

Then he tied the cloth strips tightly around the legs of the night owl, pointed the bird's butt toward the sky to gather strength, and with a "whoosh" it soared into the air.

She watched the figure fly away, where her hope for life was placed. She hoped it would fly higher and faster...

whoosh.

A cold light flew out from the valley and headed straight for the night owl that had just taken off. Because of the long distance, it looked like a silver needle flying very fast.

Xiao Nanhui was so frightened that he stretched forward unconsciously.

The night owl heard the sound of the wind, flapped its wings and hovered in the air. The cold light brushed past it, and in an instant it turned and fell back into the valley, looking like a shooting line tied with a thin thread.

Among archers, there are some who specialize in bird shooting. They use bowstrings that can be tied with string as arrows. Some birds of prey will struggle to escape after being shot by arrows, but as long as the string on the arrow is not broken, they can follow the string to find prey.

Although this was a game for princes and nobles, she was now in the desert. Where would there be any princes and nobles? Ninety percent of them were just the group she had met during the day.

The archer missed the target on the first shot, so he shot another arrow, which was faster and more powerful than the first one.

The night owl cried out and flew to higher clouds. The snow-covered cumulus clouds quickly covered its silhouette. The arrow that followed it lost its target and fell down, then was cut in half by an invisible wind blade.

She held her breath and stared at the bare hillock.

After a while, a figure walked out from behind.

An Lu stared at the sky above him, a cold smile on his lips: "No hurry, the monk may escape, but the temple cannot."

The servant standing behind him said nothing, just staring at the bell on his wrist.

An Lu noticed something and turned around. "Didn't you hear what I said? Hurry up! Those two must be nearby. We've been searching for them all day and can't find any trace of them. Maybe they've hidden in a cave somewhere."

The servant was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Master, the bell just rang."

An Lu looked a little dissatisfied.

This Nanqiang man was strange and always talked to himself in a language he could not understand, and he had never heard the bells in his hands ring.

It's clearly a mute bell, why is there such a mystery about it?

"The bell rang? Why didn't I hear it?" He walked forward and shook the bell vigorously. "There was clearly no sound. Even if it rang, what does it matter? Maybe you are mistaken..."

"Young Master, you don't know that this bell cannot be rung. It can only be activated when it senses a spell or..."

At this point, the Southern Qiang man paused, as if he was a little afraid.

An Lu was growing increasingly impatient. "Speak frankly, speak frankly. Why are you hesitating? Or are you looking down on me and won't speak unless the Master is here?"

The man lowered his head and whispered a few words in Southern Qiang dialect, as if to apologize. Then he slowly said, "It's not that I don't want to tell you, but the elders in the tribe once warned us that if a bell rings without any magic power, it means a god is approaching and we must retreat."

After the man finished speaking, he lowered his head again. An Lu stared at him for a long time, and suddenly burst into laughter, as if he had heard something extremely ridiculous.

"Interesting! Truly interesting!" His laughter reached its peak, gradually transforming into a manic expression, with lingering mockery in his eyes. "Then, let's go meet this true God. I want to see what this God looks like."

Dozens of expressionless faces merged into the gray valley and approached quietly in the darkness.

At such a long distance, she had long lost track of those people, but she still felt an unprecedented threat.
