Tiancheng’s four major military camps are divided into: Subei, Guangyao, Yanchi, and Heiyu. Among them, Heiyu is the most mysterious, while Yanchi is the largest.
Subei is a cavalryman, swift as the wind; Guangyao’s armor is sharp and indestructible; Heiyu is an elite warrior, unstoppable.
The name "Yan Chi" comes from a kind of guard sword. The blade is wide and long, with a slightly raised front end, like a goose spreading its wings. Unlike the black feathers that are known for their sharpness, it symbolizes a generous and reliable strength.
Therefore, Xiao Nanhui once thought that Lieutenant Ding, who came from the Yanchi Battalion, should be a very easy-going, kind and benevolent person.
Of course, she no longer feels that way now.
At this moment, she was standing in front of a deserted yard, leaning on two bare stone pillars and looking at the sky.
"Excuse me, brother, is this really the meeting room?"
The Yan Chi Battalion assistant who had led her here nodded calmly, "That's right."
She looked around again: "Where are the people who are discussing this?"
"Just left."
She found it a little funny: "What about Lieutenant Ding?"
"Lieutenant Ding is decocting medicine in the inner room. Please wait here for a moment, General Right."
Boiling medicine? If he was boiling medicine, what urgent matter was there that required him to come to her now?
The expression on her face revealed some emotions, and the man saw it and added another sentence.
"Perhaps I could go in and tell the master to go inside and wait."
Most of the rooms where medicine is boiled are not well ventilated, and the smell of medicine and water vapor gather together, making it not a comfortable place.
What's more, there is also Ding Weixiang.
"I'll just wait here."
Upon hearing this, the assistant general bowed and withdrew: "Then I will take my leave first."
Xiao Nanhui blinked, but before he could ask any more questions, the man disappeared in the blink of an eye as quickly as he had come.
She found a broken door plaque and sat on it, staring blankly at the smoke rising from the broken stone house.
I saw the smoke swaying to the left and then to the right with the wind, but it just stretched out continuously, as if the entire imperial kitchen was preparing a palace buffet inside.
Half an hour passed, and there was still no movement in the room.
Xiao Nanhui sighed, stood up, took a few steps forward, and slapped open the half of the crumbling door panel.
A cloud of dust flew up with her movement, and then fell triumphantly on the back of the only head in the room.
Ding Weixiang was standing with his back to her in front of a small stove. On the stove was a melon-sized ceramic bowl, which was hissing with steam.
She coughed lightly, hinting at her presence.
Ding Weixiang didn't look back. He slowly picked up the glass cup immersed in the wooden barrel beside him, scooped up a handful of clear water and poured it on the boiling pottery cup. A burst of hot steam rose and slowly floated out along the chimney.
Her eyes wandered around the bare room and landed on a piece of paper hanging on the wall.
The paper was nailed to a crevice in the stone. A closer look revealed Hao Bai's handwriting, still in his self-proclaimed, unrestrained cursive style. At the front was a long list of medicinal herbs, about two dozen in number, and at the end, a sentence: "Raw thistle is tender and delicate, but loses its medicinal properties when exposed to boiling water. It must be sealed and simmered over low heat for an hour. During this time, do not open the lid to check or add water. Pour water around the outside of the pottery bowl every quarter hour to prevent it from boiling over, until the petals have dissolved into a broth."
No matter how long she had waited outside in the wind and sun, she felt three points shorter when she saw the prescription.
This is not a prescription, but a naked indictment.
Who let the emperor get into trouble at her hands? She was indeed at fault.
After learning from her mistake, she walked forward despite the heat and strong smell of medicine, thinking about how to make a sincere apology.
But when she moved to the left, the man turned his face to the right. When she moved to the right, he turned his face back to the left.
After a while, she started to feel even more timid. "Did Lieutenant Ding catch a cold last night? Why is his face tilted to the other side?"
Ding Weixiang's hands froze, and then he continued to turn a deaf ear.
"I think you're angry with me for His Majesty's injury. It was indeed my fault, but if you were there, you would understand how dire our situation was. We're lucky to have made it through this unfortunate situation..."
With a "crack", the glass cup in Ding Weixiang's hand shattered into pieces, and then he snorted coldly.
"I've protected my master for over ten years, and he's never even had a finger cut. I've only entrusted him to you for a few days, and you're actually making him bleed!"
Every word the other party said was hurtful, and she was powerless to defend herself.
You can't tell him: It was your master who insisted on jumping forward to block the arrow.
Xiao Nanhui lowered his head: "Or you can stab me and we'll be even."
The air was silent for a moment, with only the earthenware pot on the stove still bubbling with steam.
After an unknown amount of time, Ding Weixiang finally stood up.
When she thought that the other party was really going to draw his sword, she saw that he just carefully put a cloth under it, filtered the contents of the pottery bowl with a gauze net, and poured it into a jade pot.
The black color of the medicinal soup could be faintly seen through the white and delicate body of the pot. She looked at the black thing and swallowed.
Why does this thing look a bit like...the Ten-Ingredient Tonic Soup that Dujuan makes for her every month to replenish her qi and blood?
"Send it in yourself."
Suddenly, the jade pot was pressed into her hand. Perhaps because the jade was cold, it felt only slightly warm to the touch.
But her mind was disturbed and she felt that the thing in her hand was very hot.
"That's not good. You worked so hard and put so much effort into this, how can I take away the credit for it..."
