Chapter 43 (Exclusive to Jinjiang Literature City)
Bai Lan listened to her subordinate's report with a smile on her face, but in her heart she thought to herself: They've finally arrived.
He was probably among the first to discover the fusion of worlds, and therefore he had been closely monitoring the movements of the inner world. However, even he had not expected that things in Japan would be in such turmoil.
"Anyway, we haven't invested much in Japan, so my subordinates think there's no need for us to get involved." This was the general opinion of Bai Lan's subordinates.
However, some people expressed their opposition.
"Isn't the Tenth Vongola boss in Japan? If we could take this opportunity to get rid of him..."
"A very tempting idea, but unfortunately it's too difficult to implement." Bai Lan tapped the table with her fingertip, a hint of regret flashing in her eyes.
It's not just because the Vongola Family wields considerable power in Japan; more importantly, the brothers Hao and Yoh Asakura have returned. Putting aside everything else, Hao's mind-reading ability is troublesome enough, and on top of that, news has come from Yokohama that the barrier surrounding Japan was set up by Kagemoto.
Bai Lan wasn't stupid; he knew what he could and couldn't do.
"There's no need to bring this up again." Bai Lan, in any case, had no intention of getting involved in Japan's mess.
Unfortunately, there are some things he can't completely absolve himself of just by not wanting to get involved, like what's happening now.
"Our biotech company in Yokohama was bombed?" For a moment, Byakuran even thought he had misheard. "And it was Dazai Osamu and Rokudo Mukuro who bombed it together?"
"Yes, Lady Byakuran." The subordinate's voice trembled.
"Why?" Byakuran's smile had vanished, her purple eyes coldly fixed on her subordinate. "Mori Ougai doesn't have the guts to provoke me."
Although the port mafia is considered a powerful force in Japan, in Byakuran's eyes, a mafia that can't even fully control a small place like Yokohama is not worth taking seriously at all.
Now this small organization that he didn't take seriously dared to openly attack his biotechnology company; it was simply outrageous.
“How did Rokudo Mukuro get involved with the Port Mafia? Doesn’t he always hate the Mafia to the core?” Byakuran wondered. “Could this be part of Kagemoto’s scheme?”
“Yes, Lord Bailan,” the subordinate replied. “According to the information we’ve gathered, it’s said that Mr. Jingyuan entrusted it to them.”
Hearing Jing Yuan's name again gave Bai Lan a headache.
He really didn't understand why Jing Yuan would do this, or what benefit it would bring him.
Although Jing Yuan didn't say it explicitly, Bai Lan was able to deduce from the clues that Jing Yuan didn't actually belong to this world, which is why Bai Lan was even more puzzled.
"What good will it do you?" Bai Lan asked.
The white-haired youth on the other side of the screen didn't look at him; he just lowered his head and played with the cat in his hands.
The cat was a size bigger than when Jingyuan had taken it back, and its fur was much fluffier, but its voice was still as sweet and delicate as when it was a kitten.
"What do you mean?" Jing Yuan asked.
"Don't play dumb, you know what I'm asking," Bai Lan said. "Cutting off someone's livelihood is like killing their parents. You can't be unaware of that."
Although the Millefiore family doesn't wield much power in Japan, their biotechnology company is their most important asset. The blood trade alone brings the Millefiore family considerable profits annually, and now it's been destroyed by Dazai Osamu and Rokudo Mukuro's combined efforts. It would be a lie to say Byakuran isn't heartbroken.
"You have so many labs in Yokohama, why did you specifically let them smash mine?" Byakuran said. "I don't think I've ever offended you."
“Yes, there really isn’t,” Jing Yuan said. “Actually, it’s all a coincidence.”
He didn't know that the biological company was backed by Millefiore; he only heard Rokudo Mukuro say that one of the Kamo family's biggest partners was that company. So when Byakuran came knocking on his door in a menacing manner, Jingyuan was also surprised.
“Anyway, your business center isn’t in Japan, so if the company is gone, it’s gone,” Jingyuan said.
Bai Lan felt as if her heart was bleeding.
That's not a cash cow he can easily give up. If he loses the Kamo family as his biggest blood supplier, where will he find a second one?
Rokudo Mukuro, you just wait, I don't believe Jingyuan can protect you for the rest of your life!
After angrily hanging up the video call, Bai Lan finally calmed down after eating three packets of marshmallows.
Wait a minute, maybe Jingyuan isn't after him, but the Kamo family.
The Kamo family is one of the top three families in the world of Japanese sorcery, and Kagemoto is on good terms with the six-eyed member of the Gojo family...
Bai Lan felt like she understood something.
Back in Yokohama, when Mori Ougai learned that his two capable subordinates had blown up the biotechnology company owned by the Millefiore family, he felt his heart skip a beat for a moment.
Everyone here is a member of the Mafia, and they know all about how much money can be made in the gray and black markets. It was precisely because of this that Mori Ougai almost lost his composure.
He had finally managed to get in touch with Millefiore, and the two organizations were in the honeymoon phase, but he had uprooted their money tree. Mori Ougai felt like dying.
Unfortunately, two of the four people who took action were his beloved subordinates.
One was his chosen successor to the organization, and the other was his most promising combatant whom he had carefully cultivated. However, these two talents caused him a huge mess not long after leaving his supervision.
"Rintaro, are you crying?" Alice asked.
Mori Ougai said through gritted teeth, "No."
“Really? I don’t believe it,” Alice said.
Mori Ōgai: "..."
Actually, Mori Ōgai wasn't afraid of Byakuran and his Millefiore family, but rather because he was genuinely short of money.
He originally thought he could fill the financial deficit through the cooperation between the two companies, but who knew that he would be stabbed in the back by his own diamonds in the blink of an eye.
His money! His money!
His heart ached terribly.
Damn it, I'm really about to cry!
"Dazai-kun, Chuuya-kun, didn't I tell you to go with Kagemoto to find the [book]? What are you doing now?" Mori Ougai strongly suppressed the urge to pin Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya to the ground and spank them, trying his best to make his voice sound normal.
Unfortunately, the person holding the communicator was Osamu Dazai.
"Oh dear, Mr. Mori, you're not crying, are you? Well, it's understandable, after all, you lost such a large sum of money, it's normal to cry."
Unlike Dazai Osamu's gloating, Nakahara Chuuya, standing to the side, had an apologetic look on his face.
“Sorry, boss,” Chuuya Nakahara said.
Mori Ōgai: "..."
Although Chuuya, your expression looks full of apology, how come I see in your eyes that you have no regrets?
"What exactly happened?" Mori Ougai felt a headache coming on, so he stopped beating around the bush and asked directly, "Why did you do this?"
When Mori Ougai learned that the biotechnology company had a cooperative relationship with the laboratory that was researching Arahato, he understood why Nakahara Chuuya had done this.
Fine, it's a diamond I carefully polished after all. So what if the collaboration with Millefiore falls through? It's just a little less money. Compared to the future of the Port Mafia, that small loss is nothing...
Damn it, it still hurts so much!
Mori Ougai forced himself to distract himself from this thought, thinking he couldn't think about it anymore.
"Is there any progress on the [book] matter?" Mori Ougai asked.
Compared to the future of Yokohama, everything else has to wait.
“Mr. Jingyuan already knows the whereabouts of the [book], and it shouldn’t be long before we can retrieve it,” Chuuya Nakahara replied.
Unlike Chuuya Nakahara, Osamu Dazai asked with great interest, "Mr. Mori, don't you have even the slightest thought about [the book]?"
That's a book that can grant any wish; he couldn't believe that ambitious Mori Ōgai wasn't tempted at all.
Ironically, Mori Ōgai really wasn't tempted. Don't ask why; the reason is that the psychological trauma from witnessing the black mud emerging from the Holy Grail back then was too great.
Seeing Dazai Osamu's curious gaze, Mori Ougai simply gave a mysterious smile: "Dazai-kun is still too young."
Rather than saying that [the book] is something that can fulfill all desires, it is more accurate to say that it is an evil thing that brings endless chaos.
Not getting the answer he wanted, Dazai Osamu was somewhat disappointed, but at the same time, he became even more curious.
"Why do you trust Kagemoto so much?" Dazai Osamu asked.
If he remembered correctly, Mori Ōgai had no contact with Kagemoto except for issuing the mission to assassinate him. If that was the case, why would Mori Ōgai trust Kagemoto so much that he could solve the problem of the [book]?
"Ah, that's a question," Mori Ougai said mysteriously. "Once Dazai-kun takes the position of leader, he will naturally know."
"Tch, fine, I won't tell you then." Dazai Osamu hung up the phone.
Looking at the blacked-out screen, Mori Ougai let out a long sigh, his tiredness evident in his eyes and brows.
Being a leader is never an easy job, especially since he is from Yokohama. Just dealing with various forces is exhausting for Mori Ougai.
"I didn't realize you were so kind-hearted," the silver-haired man scoffed.
Even though Dazai Osamu was young, he was still a dark spirit, but Mori Ougai still protected him as a child and refused to let him know more about the dark things.
"Have you changed careers and become a philanthropist?" he couldn't help but ask sarcastically.
Mori Ougai closed his eyes and said with a wry smile, "Stop making fun of me, Gin."
The man with green eyes slowly walked to the French windows. Sunlight shone through the glass, making his silver hair look like it was glowing.
“Just call me Ilya,” the man said. “After all, the organization no longer exists.”
“I thought you would spare Karasuma Renya’s life,” Mori Ougai said. “After all, he has been quite fond of you.”
His words made the silver-haired man's expression turn extremely ugly: "I'm going to throw up."
This is disgusting. People who don't know the situation might think he has some kind of unspeakable relationship with Karasuma Renya.
“Anyway, if one of my men were to fly an Osprey and straf the Tokyo Tower, and it crashes, I would absolutely not let him get away with it,” Mori Ougai said. “I’m really curious why Karasuma Renya is so indulgent towards you. Isn’t it said that his favorite person is Vermouth? But no matter how you look at it, your relationship with Karasuma Renya is no worse than his relationship with Vermouth.”
Ilya's response to this gossipy old friend was very simple and brutal: he fired a burst of bullets, all of which grazed Mori Ougai's temples.
"You're really hot-tempered," Mori Ougai said.
