Chapter 38 (Exclusive to Jinjiang Literature City)
Yokohama is too small. Even two opposing organizations are only a few streets apart. So, just as Jingyuan sat down at the café downstairs from the Armed Detective Agency, before he could even warm his seat, he ran into Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya.
The moment these two appeared, Conan Edogawa, who was standing next to Jingyuan, felt his hair stand on end. A fear from the depths of his soul made his whole body stiffen, his pupils shrink to pinpoints, and his heart skipped a few beats.
Run!
His brain told him that the two immature teenagers in front of him were extremely dangerous, far more dangerous than Gin.
"What would Conan like to drink?" A warm, large hand ruffled his hair, and Jingyuan's gentle voice sounded in his ear, "Iced coffee again?"
Conan Edogawa, who was initially frightened by the two black figures, was instantly calmed down. He regained his composure and, instead of swatting away Jingyuan's hand as usual and complaining that he was no longer a child, he obediently nodded to Jingyuan: "I want another mango cake."
"Okay." Jing Yuan said to the waitress standing to the side, "A cup of hot milk, a cup of iced coffee, and a mango cake."
The waitress wrote it down, then asked Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya, "What would you two like to drink?"
Taikoji smiled and said to the waitress, "I'd like a glass of gin with dish soap, and this short guy over there would like hot milk."
Chuuya, the short man from the Central Plains: "Do you want to die, Dazai?"
The waitress had clearly seen her fair share of strange customers, so she wasn't surprised by Dazai Osamu's request. Her voice remained gentle as she said, "I'm sorry, we don't have gin and dish soap here."
"Oh, then I'll have a cup of coffee with laundry detergent," Dazai Osamu said.
The waitress smiled and said, "Okay, please wait a moment."
After everyone left, Dazai Osamu rested his chin on his hands, staring intently at Kagemoto with his beautiful eyes: "Mr. Kagemoto, what brings you to Yokohama? Is there something you need to do?"
"Come and experience the local customs and culture of Yokohama," Jingyuan said.
Dazai Osamu didn't know whether he believed it or not, but just smiled and said, "I thought you came for Rokudo Mukuro."
That pineapple-headed guy stole the dog he'd set his sights on, and before he even had a chance to settle the score with Rokudo Mukuro, the patriarch of that family rushed over in a panic. What a pity...
He had originally wanted to see the legendary Rinnegan for himself.
Dazai Osamu's gaze swept over Jingyuan before turning to the silent Edogawa Conan beside him: "Aren't you going to school anymore?"
He knew Conan Edogawa. When he assassinated Kagemoto, Dazai Osamu also gathered some information from the surrounding area. It was at that time that Dazai Osamu noticed Conan Edogawa's special existence.
“We’re on holiday,” Conan Edogawa replied obediently.
Jingyuan didn't want the other party to focus all their attention on Conan Edogawa, so he got straight to the point: "What do you want from me?"
"Mr. Kagemoto, are you sure you want to talk business here?" Dazai Osamu tapped the table lightly with his finger. "I thought you would care about the safety of ordinary people."
He wouldn't mind silencing everyone in the café, but as the "kind" and "righteous" party, Dazai felt that the other party should at least consider others.
Jing Yuan chuckled lightly: "I don't think you can do it."
In this world, no one Jing Yuan has ever failed to protect.
"What a boastful tone," Dazai Osamu said, feigning helplessness. "It seems that Mr. Kagemoto doesn't take our port Mafia seriously at all."
Jing Yuan chuckled but did not answer, and the atmosphere froze for a moment.
At this moment, the waitress brought over their drinks.
Please enjoy your meal.
"Thanks."
Jingyuan picked up his cup, took a sip, and looked at Dazai Osamu: "Aren't you going to have a sip?"
Dazai Osamu glanced at him, then drank the strange liquid in the cup in one gulp.
"Hey, Dazai." Chuuya Nakahara, who was standing to the side, finally couldn't hold back anymore.
He didn't want Dazai Osamu to lose his life out of spite before the mission was even completed.
"Don't worry, Chuuya-kun." Jingyuan put the cup back on the table and said casually, "Even if Dazai-kun is fragile, he won't be killed by coffee with laundry detergent."
No matter which world he was in, Osamu Dazai was incredibly resilient. Even after the person who committed suicide with him died, he remained alive and kicking for a long time.
As for Chuuya Nakahara, he died at the age of thirty, not even living as long as Osamu Dazai, who was always threatening suicide.
Jing Yuan felt that although these writers who used to wield their pens had become superpowered individuals in this world, they should still try to stay true to their original selves, at least in important matters.
"Mr. Jingyuan seems to know us quite well." Dazai Osamu smiled, resting his chin on his hand, looking quite adorable. "Could it be that Mr. Jingyuan has been secretly observing us all along?"
"You two were the ones observing from the shadows, weren't you?" Jingyuan laughed. "Why did Mori Ōgai send the two of you to see me? [Book]"
“Mr. Jingyuan’s intelligence network is truly terrifying.” Dazai Osamu feigned a startled expression. “Our port mafia has no secrets left in your eyes. Poor Mr. Mori, he can’t imagine that his crazy outburst towards Alice has been seen by everyone.”
Chuuya Nakahara couldn't help but kick Osamu Dazai: "That's enough, isn't it?"
They need something from the other party, not to offend them.
Dazai Osamu sighed and said helplessly to Nakahara Chuuya, "As far as I know, Mori-san didn't pay you extra. What are you thinking of him for?"
In Dazai Osamu's eyes, Nakahara Chuuya was truly a guy who was both easy to understand and difficult to understand.
Why isn't she loyal to her master, whom she was brought into the port mafia by her own hand? Instead, she always treats the boss who likes to act crazy towards young girls as her object of loyalty.
Ugh... this is really annoying.
A hint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes, but Dazai Osamu quickly put on a gentle and polite mask.
“Actually, Mr. Kagemoto probably already knows why we’ve come,” Dazai Osamu said. “Mr. Mori has come to ask the two of us to help you find [the book].
"Oh, I see." Jing Yuan wasn't surprised by this.
Kagemoto had inquired about Mori Ōgai from Gin, so the moment he stepped into Yokohama, he was prepared to be confronted. Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya acted even faster than he expected. It seemed Mori Ōgai was truly afraid that the war would reach Yokohama.
Since everyone's interests are aligned, Jingyuan won't deliberately make things difficult for Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya. His only worry is that it won't be easy to explain to Rokudo Mukuro if he takes these two back.
Hopefully they won't fight.
Although Conan Edogawa was present the whole time, he was the only one among those present who didn't understand anything.
Conan Edogawa, mindful of keeping his identity hidden, texted Kagemoto on his phone to ask what was going on, why he was suddenly teaming up with the Port Mafia, and why he chose to meet the Double Black downstairs from the Armed Detective Agency.
Jing Yuan saw the message he sent, but he simply reached out and ruffled the child's hair without explaining anything.
Jingyuan had no intention of explaining, and Conan Edogawa couldn't do anything about it. Besides, Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya, two Mafia members, were sitting next to him. He absolutely dared not let these two know about the elixir of immortality.
He dared not gamble, nor could he gamble.
He was too naive back then, only thinking about bringing the Black Organization to justice, without considering the unspeakable things behind it. Now, with Jingyuan's enlightenment, Conan Edogawa realizes how dangerous his past actions were.
Drugs that allow people to reverse aging, criminal organizations spanning multiple countries, a constant stream of people with supernatural abilities, and literary giants who have disappeared from textbooks...
Conan Edogawa had too many questions in his mind, including about the person in front of him, Kagemoto, who was shrouded in mystery.
Admittedly, after spending this time together, Conan Edogawa trusts Kagemoto, but that doesn't mean he believes every single thing Kagemoto says.
For example, not long ago, Jingyuan told him personally that he had the means to erase everyone's memories of ATX4869, but he told Edogawa Ranpo that he had no way to restore Edogawa Ranpo's memories that had been erased by the Masked Fool.
This is clearly a lie, and Jing Yuan doesn't mind that he knows it.
Why did Kagemoto do this? Was he telling him that Edogawa Ranpo was untrustworthy? If so, why was Kagemoto willing to accept Edogawa Ranpo's advances?
Conan Edogawa felt that Kagemoto was hiding too many things from him, and that his words were a mix of truth and lies, making it easy to be fooled if one wasn't careful.
Lost in thought, Conan Edogawa didn't notice that the conversation between Kagemoto and Dazai Osamu had ended. It wasn't until he scratched his head in frustration that he noticed the three of them staring straight at him.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Conan Edogawa subconsciously moved back a little.
The person who answered him was Dazai Osamu: "Nothing, I was just curious what could make you look so troubled, little detective. It can't be because you haven't finished your homework, can it?"
"How did you know I'm a detective?" Conan Edogawa felt a chill run down his spine as he was stared at. Had the Port Mafia discovered his true identity?
Dazai Osamu sighed and said, "Even if we're the Mafia, who love fighting and killing, we still read the news, okay?"
Moreover, Conan Edogawa has made headlines several times for his duels with Kaito Kid. As someone who loves collecting information, if Osamu Dazai didn't even know this much, he could just die without the enemy having to lift a finger. Oh, no, that's not right. He was actually pursuing suicide.
"Haha, is that how it is?" Conan Edogawa chuckled dryly.
The child, unsure of what to say, looked at Jingyuan with pleading eyes. Jingyuan didn't take the opportunity to tease him, but simply chuckled softly and then turned his gaze to the entrance of the coffee shop.
Conan Edogawa and Osamu Dazai followed Kagemoto's gaze and saw a boy with a hairstyle that looked like a pineapple walking towards them.
“Hai.” Jing Yuan smiled and raised his hand to the person. “I’m here.”
