The suppressed truth of death

The suppressed truth of death

After finishing their meal, they ran into an acquaintance.

"Hey, Ningshu." They were genuinely surprised to see her here. "Are you here for a get-together?"

"Yes, with a few of my teachers and seniors." Wang Ningshu held a bottle of red wine in her hand. "Look, it's over there. I'm going back now, so they don't have to wait."

Zhou Chenjin and Chen Xiaojing looked in the direction she pointed and saw an old man chatting happily with the person next to him at the door of the private room. He looked very kind and gentle.

"Isn't this the forensic doctor who's all the rage online?" Zhou Chenjin recognized him first. "Ningshu, you graduated and became a forensic doctor?"

"Yes, after graduation I'm working as a forensic pathologist with the police in City B." She waved to them. "Long time no see. I'm off tomorrow at noon, shall I treat you to lunch?"

"There's no need for dinner, but Ningshu, I have some questions I'd like to ask you. If it's convenient, please keep an eye on WeChat." Chen Xiaojing, fearing Zhou Chenjin might misunderstand, added, "When it comes to matters of the novel, some logic is best left to professionals."

Wang Ningshu knew she was referring to the incident involving Shangshui Luoying, so she didn't ask any further questions and simply replied, "Then I await the great writer's questions."

The two took a taxi back to their apartment.

Zhang Renyin had already rested. Chen Xiaojing opened her phone, found Wang Ningshu's WeChat, and was about to send her long-held question when a message came in first.

I know what you want to ask.

Chen Xiaojing was stunned for a moment, but quickly realized that her good friend was always quick to surf the internet and should have already seen what work arrangements the mysteriously deceased artist had afterward.

"So, what answer can you give me?" Chen Xiaojing revised her words, but never revealed the final key point. "Or, what can you say?"

She changed Wang Ningshu's contact name to "The other party is typing..." and kept it up for a long time. Chen Xiaojing felt suffocated. She had added the screenwriter on WeChat when they were discussing casting. They didn't chat much, but she could feel his sincerity and seriousness about his work. She once thought that she could really help him become a big star.

A very long message was sent.

“I really want to say that I chose the profession of forensic pathologist because I wanted to convey a final message to the world on behalf of the deceased. This is my true feeling since I started working in this field. In the case of that artist named Yang Ning, they actually had a great advantage. He himself was 37 years old, and his parents were even more in their sixties and seventies, basically out of touch with society. Even if a lot of bystanders stirred up public opinion, for them it was just a matter of asking the platform to suppress a trending topic.” She paused for a moment, as if she had wanted to say this for a long time, but only had the opportunity to speak when asked. “My mentor participated in his case and could tell at a glance that he definitely had more than just injuries from a fall from a height, and it was definitely not an accident caused by drunkenness.”

Chen Xiaojing felt a chill run down her spine: "Then why hasn't the police issued a statement yet? From what you've said, the outcome seems obvious."

Wang Ningshu replied, "You should know the rest better than we do."

“All we can do is find out the cause of his death, and leave the rest to the police.” Wang Ningshu’s words seemed to overturn her understanding of more than 20 years. “Whether the police will talk or not, and what they will say, depends on whether they have reached into the judicial system.”

"Take my advice, great writer, and protect yourself."

The instant the message was sent, lightning flashed and thunder roared outside the window, and a very thick bolt of lightning illuminated the sky as if it were daytime.

She got out of bed, put on her slippers, walked to the window, and drew the curtains. On social media, some bold celebrity friends and ordinary fans continued to speak out, but they quickly disappeared from the homepage.

“The weather in City B has been terrible these past few nights, with thunder and lightning, and strong winds and rain. This kind of severe weather, unlike anything we’ve seen in previous years, is sweeping across the country.” Chen Xiaojing glanced at the time; it was 12:30 a.m. “You’re being wronged, aren’t you?”

The sound of a body falling to the ground came from the next room. Chen Xiaojing was startled and rushed over: "Ren Yin, what's wrong?"

He hugged her tightly, groping for her hand: "Still thinking about the fall case?"

Otherwise, she would have been asleep by now.

"I think it's a real pity. He was such a good male celebrity. I want to know more about him, at least to give him the truth."

Zhang Renyin didn't want to say anything more to her and let her help her lie back on the bed.

"It's okay, I'm just thinking about it, I won't do anything reckless."

He nodded.
