Chapter 107 The Things People Fear (1)

Chapter 107

The little spider opened its eyes and felt itself completely surrounded by darkness.

It wasn't completely dark; it was just excessively dim due to the lack of a light source.

"Are you awake?"

It heard a familiar voice and looked up in surprise. Then it felt a hand rub its head.

It's the scent of Ark.

"What's going on?" Little Spider was a little confused.

“You know I can access the mental world.” Acton paused, sounding like he was sighing. “First Lady, then you. I might as well become a psychiatrist.”

"Sorry." The little spider realized something was wrong, because this didn't seem to be a place he was familiar with.

But in the short time he was lost in thought, he was able to see everything clearly.

No, it should be said that I learned everything about this place. How big it was, where it went from place to place, or even the details of the walls.

"Where am I..." The little spider felt a headache coming on as a flood of information entered its head.

"As someone who's been through it, if I have two pieces of news, one good and one bad, which should I listen to first?"

"Good news, you said you'd look on the bright side."

“Congratulations on possessing a domain, and a rare one at that, another world.” Acton paused and said, “I haven’t mentioned this before, so I’ll briefly explain the theory. Basically, the abilities of demons and saints only take effect within a domain. However, there is a special case where someone possesses a domain but doesn’t have any abilities. In this case, the person involved is usually unaware of it. And if it’s a human, there’s a high chance they’ll be chosen as a demon.”

"So what about me?"

“Yours is impressive. Your domain is located outside the mortal world. It’s a domain created entirely by magic with an absurd density and capacity. It’s an alternate dimension.” Ark said helplessly, “But the bad news I’m about to tell you is also related to this. Thanks to you, we’re trapped here now.”

"you also?"

"I originally planned to invade this guy's mental world and dismantle its core, but I got caught up in your domain. That's incredible. You've become a nest inside its body, and the original body has already lost consciousness. But you're unknowingly starting to devour this guy's magic power."

"Me?" Chris felt a bit overwhelmed... Oh, I shouldn't say that, its head was already quite big to begin with.

"Yes, and the absorption rate increases progressively. Your body continuously absorbs magic power and transforms it into spider silk. If nothing unexpected happens, you'll eventually become a white cocoon the size of that thing," Ark chuckled dryly before adding, "and then a giant spider or something crawls out."

"Hey hey hey? No! I'm annoying enough already!" the little spider cried out in fear. "If this continues, nobody will want to talk to me at all."

“But I also said that was assuming there were no unexpected events.” Ark’s tone suddenly became serious. He took a deep breath, rubbed his temples, and said, “But now there has been an unexpected event.”

The little spider was stunned for a moment, realizing that it seemed to have encountered a huge problem.

“Theoretically, your cocoon should grow larger, but in reality, it’s already about three times the size of your body.” Ark frowned and said, “I told you a long time ago that the higher the concentration of magic, the better. But your original concentration was already higher than imagined. The reason I’ve been having you make clothes is to help you distribute the magic power in your body. If it’s too large, you might become a paradox.”

What is that?

“This world has rules, ordained by God.” As Ark said this, he felt a slight headache.

This is something we shouldn't overthink, since it involves core issues.

Anything involving rules should not be known to normal people, because it would cause a series of problems. The more I think about it, the more I feel like a guinea pig.

This is a box, and God has placed far too many restrictions on it. Those inside can only choose to bury their heads and ignore the obvious realities in order to live a little more comfortably.

At first, Yak tried to resist, but now he is willing to be blindfolded.

However, now that we've brought up this topic, we can't avoid it.

"I know."

"It stipulates some common sense rules that must be followed by everyone except those who are given special functions."

"I know." The little spider nodded. Although it was a monster, it had lived among a group of powerful monsters until now. While its understanding of humans was somewhat flawed, it still possessed some theoretical knowledge of advanced combat.

“One of them is about the amount of magic power you have. Yours is already too high, exceeding the limits and continuing to exist, which will cause a certain degree of distortion in spacetime… If you were in a safe zone, you wouldn't be a problem, since everything is stable there, and your abnormality wouldn't be a concern. But right now we're in a place that's extremely unstable even in the Chaotic Region. If you get out of control, I really don't know how I'll clean up the mess.” Ark said honestly. He didn't need to give this little guy too much psychological guidance. As long as he told the truth, the child would know what to do.

"So, what is this?" The little spider was a bit confused, after all, its understanding of these things was only superficial.

“This is a manifestation of chaos; it has caused a spatial collapse,” Ark said, looking at the little spider. “But on another level, you can know everything about this space, right?”

I can now speak this somewhat academic way quite well.

After all, I had been lectured like that a long time ago.

"Hmm, starting from just now. This place feels strangely familiar." The little spider hesitated for a moment before saying, "This is the spider's nest where I used to live."

"You mean that spider nest in the safe zone? I was truly amazed when I saw it."

“Hmm, but it’s a little different,” Spider-Man said. “Do you have your own domain?”

"I'm not a demon."

"That's a lie. Don't lie to me now that we're here. Don't worry, I won't tell the church guys." Spider-Man had no intention of believing this guy. Expressionless guys are the least trustworthy; you can't tell which of their statements are lies.

"Ha, never mind. That's enough about me. Now you need to think about how to protect yourself." Ark shrugged helplessly and looked at Spider-Man, saying, "Want to change your appearance?"

The little spider was stunned for a moment, then watched as he dragged a skeleton in front of him.

"This is?"

"A human was devoured by the monster, or rather, it was corrupted and became this monster. This thing was also swallowed up by your space." Acton paused and said, "Don't underestimate it just because it's only bones. With this, I'll give you some more information. Once you come out, you'll be able to look similar to a human."

"Really?"

“I never lie about these things. I can tell you're quite insecure about your appearance. So I was thinking that changing your appearance might be better for you.” Ark placed his hand on the skull. “The problem is, this guy's soul hasn't dissipated yet, otherwise this thing wouldn't have survived until now. But I can easily cleanse it, don't worry, I…”

"Forget it."

"Um?"

“You said this guy still has a lingering soul… It’s a tragic story, isn’t it? After death, he became that thing, nobody remembers him, nobody knows who he is. They’re just afraid of this monster.” The little spider said softly, “He still has a soul, and this monster is his body, right? He’s still alive. Since he’s still alive, we have no reason to take his life.”

After a long silence, Ark sat down next to the little spider.

“Sorry, I forgot to mention something earlier,” Ark said. “To avoid the paradox I mentioned, you need to make your body larger than before. At least human-like. Your current body is actually based on a child’s body. It contains human bones, just like this thing. So if you want to become huge, you have to abandon this body. If you try to condense it yourself, you’ll just become a giant spider.”

"People will hate me."

"I would be very disliked."

Why would they be turned against with such an easy reason?

“It’s just fear. We’re all afraid. They’re afraid of being hurt when they see monsters.” Acton paused and said, “They can’t understand every monster; they can only rely on their first impression. You know, your kind of monsters are not uncommon in the world. Their method of reproduction has made them ubiquitous across the globe, but it has also made them something that people hate. Do you remember what the intelligent spiders said to you?”

“If you want to live in harmony with humans, then keep your distance. The farther the better. It’s better for everyone.” The little spider said softly, “I remember, we were a bunch of monsters. Even without malice, we were monsters to others. You can’t blame others; in our species, there’s probably only one intelligent individual out of every ten thousand. And we’ve probably seen almost no humans. They attack humans as soon as they see them, and they’ll even attack me if I have a strange smell.”

“Is that so? So you will become that kind of monster.” Ark looked at him, paused, and said, “Please accept this body; consider it my request.”

“You’ve made all of this very clear. If you really just wanted me to accept it, you didn’t have to say it outright.” Chrisson paused. “You actually want me to make a choice, don’t you?”

“You’ve always been a very smart child, even though you inexplicably act a bit silly. But you’re not just born with a big head. You’re very smart, no, I should say you’re too smart, so smart that I don’t even know how to deceive you.” Acton paused and said, “Although I don’t know why, you seem to be able to distinguish between sincerity and pretense.”

“Yeah, so to be honest… I kind of hate you. You’ve been lying all along, even though they’re all well-founded lies that can be called white lies, I still can’t accept it.” Spider paused. “You’re cunning. You use lies and all sorts of things to make yourself feel real. A reality formed from falsehood sounds really ridiculous.”

"So, I want to know the conclusion."

"No."

"Let me put it simply. You need to reduce the amount of magical power you possess. Now that you have this space, it means you need to find a way to distribute your magical power here while simultaneously controlling this space. At the same time, you need to increase your overall size, making it about three times larger than your original mass." Arcton paused. "If you succeed, you'll at least become a Cataclysmic being. If you lose your intelligence, we'll be busy suppressing new chaotic calamities. And if, at that time, you're favored by a Demon God... congratulations, you'll be a Demon King."

For once, Yak made his tone of voice sound relaxed and not serious; in fact, it sounded a bit eccentric.

It's really relaxing to look at.

The little spider felt the same way, but only for a moment.

A sentence from Denos flashed through its mind, making it feel a little cold all over.

When Ark is at a loss, he will speak in a relaxed tone. This is only because he has not found a better way and has compromised with the existing result. He has come up with a way that is feasible but he is not comfortable with it.

This method, which cannot succeed if one does not even firmly believe in it, can only be used by him to reassure the person carrying it out by saying something positive.

Because the previous methods were incredibly difficult at every step. And while the chances of death were slim after a mistake, disaster would certainly follow.

"Hmm, maybe some demon god will like something like me." The little spider paused. "Well, I'm going to start now. You should try to leave this place; I might not be able to stay calm."

"I'd leave even without you saying so." Ark patted its head one last time, then turned and left. "I really hope we won't be enemies next time we meet."

"Hmm." The little spider nodded, then slowly closed its eyes.

It wasn't because I wanted to sleep, but because I wanted to try to start controlling this unstable space.

In reality, the monster slowly collapsed to the ground amidst the chaos. In that infamous forbidden zone, the monster finally fell.

But no one felt at ease; they only felt their whole bodies trembling unconsciously.

Because the sound of a heartbeat is heavy, yet the sound does not diminish in the slightest.

Aparine's composed smile vanished, and she felt cold sweat slowly dripping from her forehead.

What's going on? An overwhelming sense of fear.

Everyone instinctively backed away, except perhaps for the creature standing on it that couldn't move.

That fear that everyone can feel as a living being is the most fundamental fear of the living towards a threat. It has nothing to do with appearance or other feelings, but rather the fear of something that is threatening.

But the monster was already on its last legs and was about to collapse.
