Chapter 73 The Separated Crowd (1)

Chapter Seventy-Three

For some inexplicable reason, Lady felt an emptiness in her heart.

Have I forgotten something?

She felt as if she were in a vast library, her memory bank. It was a memory bank of such immense size, containing a terrifying amount of knowledge. With this knowledge, she could even access the vast majority of knowledge in the world.

She frantically pulled these books of knowledge from the shelves until they covered the floor.

No, that's not all.

She pushed aside the shelves piled high with knowledge, and a vast amount of information was crammed into her senses. Those things began to weigh on her nerves, causing them to ache.

These were all things she possessed when she was created, and she thought she already knew enough.

But now, she suddenly realized her ignorance. Because there was something very important she had forgotten: who exactly was the person standing in this library?

She sat atop the pile of books, feeling utterly weak and powerless. Tears streamed silently down her face, but because she didn't know why she was crying, she simply wept. There was no sound of crying, only tears.

All of this was because she saw the person standing at the door.

In that instant, Lady suddenly felt as if she had forgotten something. Her mind was filled with so much that she wouldn't even realize if she lost a few memories.

"Who are you?" she asked softly. Although she asked in person, she jumped up from her seat so quickly that she began to tremble and felt inexplicably afraid.

Fear? Why am I afraid? What am I afraid of? What is there to be afraid of? Is it because I was bullied, or because I'm afraid of forgetting more about him?

"An intelligent alchemical doll?" Kendry, standing at the door, was also stunned, because he knew at a glance that the girl in front of him was no living person. No living person could have such a perfect appearance, and he could feel the movement of the alchemical array running within her body.

Yak stood up, stood up, and patted Lady on the shoulder.

She was snapped out of her daze and stared blankly at Yak, who was looking helplessly at her.

"Do you know him?" Ark asked softly.

"I don't know," Lady said blankly.

He seemed not to hear Lady's voice, but walked over in surprise, checked repeatedly, and asked softly.

"Who are you?"

“Gentlemen, I don’t think this is the right place to talk.” Yak noticed that the two men were not in a good mood and suggested that they find another place to chat: “We should find a place where we can sit down and have some tea.”

......

"It's fake, isn't it?" Riley looked at Lady sitting there, her face filled with uncontrollable anger and sorrow.

They confirmed that this was Krypton's successful creation, an alchemical golem with its own thoughts.

This thing could be called a monster in a sense. Although it was created according to alchemical rules, it didn't act according to any pre-set plan. The flow of magic within it was so chaotic that it was impossible to judge.

And the fact that its name was the same as her sister's was something Riley couldn't accept at all. Therefore, when she heard this guy's name, her face was filled with nothing but rage. An uncontrollable rage, a desire to smash that perfect face to pieces with her fists.

Ark was with Kendiri, and he needed to find out what kind of guy this man really was. He wasn't comfortable entrusting Lady to someone he didn't know. He wasn't against anyone leaving the group, unless that person was unaware of the dangers they were about to face.

“Thank you so much for bringing her here,” Kennedy said softly, puffing on his cigarette. “I’m very grateful.”

"It seems you're a researcher of alchemical golems. I need to know who you are and whether you have any connection to Lady." Ark, not wanting to beat around the bush, walked into the enormous room. The room was empty except for a bed and a table.

This is Lady's house; he found this place according to the instructions.

The spaciousness inside wasn't a big deal; Ark still had some savings. He wouldn't mind taking some out to furnish the place and make it a suitable living space for a girl. However, it was very close to the man's residence—so close that it was above his house. Although not exactly the second floor, it was essentially an attached building next to the research institute.

“Her creator, Krypton, is my collaborator.” Kendry didn’t hide anything and said directly, “This room used to be his residence. The reason it’s empty now is because he did something illegal and his house was ransacked.”

“Is that so?” Acton paused and said, “Proof is required.”

“This guy killed my daughter, Lady, before he left. Her grave isn’t far from here.” Kendry, feeling a surge of anger, looked at the expressionless man and said, “And who are you, you bastard? What right do you have to question me?”

He tossed his identification over, and Yak took it without emotion, looking at the document on it.

The display above indicates that he holds the highest position among the researchers here. He is the director.

After verifying these details, he handed the document back, along with his identification.

“You’re a monster.” Kendy frowned. “So you’re expressionless?”

"Yes."

“This really annoys me.” He scratched his head and said, “So, let’s talk about something.”

“I have nothing to talk about. I just promised to take this girl home. If she doesn’t have a home, I’m willing to take her with me in business and pay her regularly,” Yak said. “I’m hostile towards you.”

"That's very direct. Why?"

“Because I can sense that you want to possess that girl, which is a perfectly normal emotion. But I don’t sense any malice from you, nor do I sense any male desire for a beautiful woman from you. So I want to know why.” Yak spoke bluntly: “I know you have a high status here, but I will be leaving soon, so even if you want to harm me, you’d better do it sooner rather than later.”

“I told you, this is the work of my collaborator.” Kendry frowned as he looked at Ark. “It’s a puppet with its own intelligence, and I’m the researcher. You can easily guess why I want that guy.”

“You want to study the principles? I thought you were already mass-producing this kind of thing here.” Ark’s suspicions were confirmed, and he stood up to leave: “There’s nothing to talk about. Bringing her here was a mistake. Sorry to bother you, we’ll be leaving soon.”

"Hey, what do you mean?"

“I’m not foolish enough to leave a child with a researcher who’s interested in her. I really don’t want to see this child torn to pieces. That would break my heart.” Acton paused and said, “I advise you not to get any funny ideas. There are church people on our carriage. You don’t want to be at odds with the church, do you?”

"It's really good to be able to use the church as a shield at a time like this," Ark thought to himself, as he pushed open the door and went downstairs to call Lady away. Although he had come specifically for this purpose, he roughly knew that he shouldn't have come here.

But Lady was no longer there.

"Good thing..." Kendry hadn't finished speaking when he was grabbed by the collar and slammed against the wall. There was a loud bang, and the metal behind him was on the verge of cracking from the impact.

He felt as if he had been struck in the chest with a heavy hammer, making it extremely difficult to breathe, and even lifting his head became extremely difficult.

"Where did you put Lady?" Ark said softly, his good temper completely gone.

In the blink of an eye, Lady was nowhere to be found. This shouldn't be happening. Ark had been using his senses to pinpoint her location the whole time, and this absolutely shouldn't have happened.

But he only realized his mistake after confirming it with his own eyes; the sound of steam rising from the walls had disrupted his senses. This basic error made him wonder how he could have even lost track of Lady's location.

"I don't know." With his glasses on the ground, the researcher felt that all the strength in his body was enough to utter these words in a trembling voice.

Yak released his grip, and the guy fell to the ground like a rag doll.

This guy should at least be a good person, since he hasn't sensed any malice from him until now.

He also noticed Lady; she had somehow gone behind the stairs, and he hadn't seen her at first, so assuming she'd been taken away was indeed a bit of an overreaction.

However, it's also because the downstairs rooms are too messy. That failed project from before hasn't been moved out of the house yet, and books are scattered everywhere. It's a stark contrast to the second floor; the first floor has too much stuff, while the second floor has too little.

"Ark?" Lady popped her head out from below, staring at the slightly agitated Ark before asking in surprise.

She had never seen this guy with such an expression before; he was so ferocious and terrifying, like a demon. That expressionless mask had been removed, revealing such a demonic face.

Come to think of it, this guy seemed quite angry and heartbroken when his teammates were injured. This usually expressionless guy probably only shows this side of himself when his teammates are hurt. So heartwarming, yet so tragic.

“I’m fine.” Yak shook his head, indicating that he was alright.

Then he went downstairs and suddenly froze.

Because Lady was looking at a photo on the wall; the girl in the photo looked quite young, like a child.

The hair was very long, covering half of the face, so Ark couldn't see the face clearly. He just felt a little strange because it felt inexplicably familiar.

“This is my sister.” The girl sitting next to him noticed Ark’s confusion and said softly, “There aren’t many photos of her. These are photos from two years before she was murdered.”

"Is your sister Lady?" Ark paused for a moment, then asked softly.

She didn't answer, she just nodded.

“It has the same name as me,” Lady said softly, as she suddenly walked into the photo and looked intently at the person in it.

Same name?

Yak had a bit of a headache. He had just overheard the researcher saying that he used to have a daughter named Lady, who had died.

At that moment, he felt that this guy was untrustworthy. Because he didn't sense that this guy showed much grief over the death of his child; he was just talking about something.

This made it impossible for him to trust the scientist.

But now, when Lady sees the portrait, she looks at the photo in a strange way, as if she is very sad, with tears streaming down her face.

"Um, Ark," she suddenly turned to look at Ark and said, "Will you be here for the next few days?"

"I won't leave until I'm sure you're safe and sound, and I also have things to take care of here."

"Can I still go outside with you anytime?" Lady asked earnestly.

"I told you, you can follow me as long as you want. Until you get tired of it."

"Then I'll settle in here for a few days."

“I’m worried about you. I’ll look around and see if there’s a place to rent.” Yak said in a firm voice, “You shouldn’t stay overnight at a man’s house you don’t know.”

"Yes, really?" Lady scratched her head, realizing the problem only then, and smiled helplessly, "That's true."

“You don’t need to worry about the money. While you were in the carriage, you were essentially employed by me. I’ll pay you according to what you did later,” Yak added. “Is that alright?”

Lady nodded, then suddenly froze, looking at the guy who was coming down.

That was Kendiri, who had just been interrogated by Yak. He was still feeling chest tightness from the heavy blow and was looking for a place to spit out some blood.

Lady looked at Kennedy, who was walking down with her, and hesitated for a long time before asking, "Um, have I seen him before?"

“Us?” Kendry was taken aback. He was still thinking about what he should say to persuade Ark to keep the girl when he suddenly heard her ask this question.

He thought about it carefully, then shook his head.

"Is that so?" Lady said, then suddenly closed her eyes.

Her aura changed; a different mode of thinking had quietly taken over.

Suddenly, Yak moved and shoved him away.

Gunshots rang out, and Ark held the metal bullet in his hand.

"As expected," Lady said softly, releasing her grip and dropping the gun on the ground.

Leili was terrified by the sound. She covered her ears and looked at Lady standing there in horror.

"What are you doing?" Ark also threw a bullet on the ground. "Do you have a grudge against this guy?"

“No, it’s just that my body has been acting strange ever since I saw him,” Lady said softly, her whole body trembling as she spoke. “Now I understand, I just wanted to kill him. I don’t know why, but my subconscious made me do it.”
