Chapter Ninety-Two
"Let me go back and deal with that guy," the angel's shadow commanded.
"You can't handle that little thing." Flame looked at the guy being carried by Twelve and suddenly found it a bit funny. Just a short while ago, that guy was looking very smug, but now he was being forcibly dragged around the streets.
As for why they were in the sewers before but are now walking on the street, it's because Spider-Man revealed some things about the city, including that Ark and his crew have now entered the royal palace.
The little spider can communicate with insects, and since there are so many insects in the city, it naturally knows what's happening outside.
However, insects are insects after all; they cannot understand human prophecies, nor can they comprehend what has happened, let alone guess their intentions. Furthermore, the little spiders hadn't maintained a state of wartime alertness, resulting in them merely receiving the information without further analysis.
However, they probably understood that the city didn't care about these monsters right now. In fact, since monsters were the ones ruling this place, they shouldn't harbor any murderous intent towards this group of monsters.
Given that their stay is indeed short-term, and they do have some hard currency and money, they might be able to rest a bit here if they don't cause trouble.
"What infuriates me is that I am the shadow of a great angel, and I originate directly from my great god!"
“But you can’t deal with that little thing now. It was really close. If we had fought against it just now, we might have been wiped out here.” Wuming said with a smile, “It’s hard to imagine that thing was so powerful.”
"You know him?"
"I told you, I helped that guy and that demon before. Looking back, I was such a busybody, thinking I was invincible just because I had borrowed abilities." Nameless rubbed his eyes. "But in the end, those two were unharmed, and only I got caught and beaten up. It was really ruthless. The ascetic broke every bone in my body every time. After the magic healed me, they would do it again."
"Are they interrogating you? I'm impressed that you can hold back." Twelve glanced at Nameless, who was walking ahead. He always felt that this guy was a bit eccentric.
"No, they didn't interrogate me."
"Is that an insult?" Yan frowned. As a Red Oni, he didn't have much affection for the church to begin with.
“No, they didn’t humiliate me.” But unexpectedly, Wuming said in a very soft voice, “They were just beating me up. I was yelling at them, but they seemed not to hear me. They just kept punching me. If it weren’t for Ghost Duke letting me out, I think I might have considered biting my tongue and committing suicide. Because I couldn’t bear that kind of pain.”
The air suddenly fell silent, and the shadowy figure carried on his shoulder also quieted down. He patted Twelve's shoulder and put himself down. This was because she had calmed down.
“He is an ascetic, a special kind of person in the church. He is a former sinner.” Shadowy paused and said, “These people will recognize the sins they have committed, remember them, and begin to pay for them.”
"They're just a bunch of masochistic lunatics." Flame frowned; she was the smallest of the monsters. But as a red oni, she was equally dark-skinned.
"It's hard to say, but those guys are not to be trifled with. Fortunately, ascetics are a small group among the clergy, but even so, there are still at least a hundred of them." Xie Ying looked at Yan walking there: "There are hundreds more as strong as that guy. Even so, do you still want to become a demon king to fight against the church?"
"However, there is also that spider-like thing among the monsters."
"You think that thing can deal with high-ranking clergy?" Shadowy waved his hand. "Never mind, even if it could, we still can't fight the Church. They have more people, and many of them are strong. We don't have an advantage in either quality or quantity."
"The Demon King can deal with many high-ranking priests. All I need to do is become the Demon King."
"Demon King? You?"
A strange voice came from behind them. The two of them froze for a moment, then slowly turned around to look at Chullier standing behind them.
"Who?" Yan jumped back instinctively. This guy appeared so suddenly that even he hadn't noticed him.
“This is my refuge,” he said in the simplest of words, then looked at Yan and frowned.
"Just an ordinary demon. I thought it would be something powerful." Chulier looked at the demons standing around and said disappointedly, "How disappointing."
"And what are you?" Yan looked at it with some unease. What made him uneasy, just like the creature that appeared so suddenly, was that he couldn't sense its presence at all; he could only hear it speak and see it. Other than that, this thing seemed to exist nowhere.
“Just a demon.” Chulier stared at Yan for a long time, then took a deep breath and said, “You want to rebel against the Church?”
"It's better than you bowing down to the church," Yan said impatiently. Since this guy dared to reveal who he was, it meant he had already submitted to the church.
“No, I also hope to have the opportunity to rebel against the church.” Qiu Lideng paused and said, “Try to find the royal palace here. When you get there, tell them that I am looking for you. We will give you a place to rest for the time being.”
He vanished as soon as the sound completely faded away, as if he had never existed.
"Just a projection?" Xie Ying frowned, noticing something amiss. "So everything in this city is being monitored?"
......
"Churril? Why didn't you respond when I called you?" Dedeline raised an eyebrow at the guy standing next to her and said, "Is your mental state alright?"
"No problem." He shook his head to indicate that he was fine.
Although his abilities are flashy but impractical compared to Aparli, who is far superior in combat.
However, in practice, it can be used very flexibly. Just like what I was sitting in, it simply reflects the sound from the magical place and then reflects my own image back.
It's just that my magic isn't pure right now, so doing this kind of thing is a bit troublesome.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down a bit.
He initially thought he could easily find what he was looking for using his own abilities. After all, he could sense energy fields, which was theoretically a very simple thing.
Only in theory.
They couldn't find what they were talking about anywhere in the city; they said it was a powerful, magical entity. Theoretically, such a thing should be like a stone dropped into water, easily found by the ripples.
In theory... if everything were to go according to theory, then perhaps the world would be very peaceful.
Because right now, that guy is like a stone completely submerged in water. As calm as a lake, not a single ripple is stirred.
However, he was somewhat skeptical of what Ark said. That thing, barely half a person's size, was a calamity? When did calamities become so worthless? It was, after all, at the top of the Witcher hierarchy. Theoretically, it was on par with dragons.
Such a monster entering the city shouldn't go unnoticed, given that the entire city is enveloped in its domain. The reactions it evokes can give a rough idea of who has arrived.
His senses didn't match what Ark said; he had no idea they had a Spider-Man-like partner.
“Where could that guy possibly run off to?” Dedeline said, looking at the somewhat bewildered Chullier. “Supporter, you’re supposed to be the protector of this place. Don’t you have any abilities that would make things easier for us?”
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I haven't been a demon for very long. I haven't had much time to gather magic power." Chullid paused and said, "Therefore, I don't have much magic power; I just rely on my own abilities to do all sorts of things."
"So you're going to expand your magical power by absorbing the chaotic elements of the Blood Sun? That's a bold decision, but I must warn you, this energy is really hard to swallow, isn't it? Even someone like you who can manipulate energy fields would have a hard time purifying it." Denos looked at the somewhat surprised-looking Chuliel: "What's with that expression?"
"How do you know...?"
“We were right there when you were talking to Miss Natara.”
"You shouldn't have heard that; you brought soundproofing..."
“I wouldn’t have said that if we weren’t on the same side now.” Denos raised an eyebrow and looked at the surprised Chullier. “So, here’s a lesson for you. My eyes are still sticking out, but I can probably tell what you’re trying to say from your lip movements.”
“That was a real blunder. But Mr. Denos, you have betrayed my trust in you. I thought you were so open about the negotiations and that the information would not be leaked. But you still found out about our conversation in this way.”
“Ha, sincerity is the image that Ark wants to cultivate. At the same time, only you long-lived beings are so cautious.” Denos said, a little smugly, “I’m just working for him, and recently that guy seems to be preparing to send me home. Then I really will have to spend the rest of my life in the city. It’s actually quite good that humans have short lifespans, especially in times of peace. Humans always hope that everything will be alright when they die.”
But halfway through his sentence, Denos's voice gradually lowered.
"It's sad. I guess Ark really sees me as just an employee. He doesn't want me involved in many things. That guy is actually a bit stupid. His way of protecting others is to hand over the things that seem troublesome to them, while keeping the really difficult things for himself. It's like he's just giving me a reason to get paid."
“That sounds like a really shady character. Don’t worry, I’m not like him at all. I really didn’t eavesdrop, and I don’t know the details.” Deedri, standing beside him, looked at Chullier and said, “These are trustworthy friends. As long as you pay them enough, mercenaries will never cheat their clients.”
However, Chullier did not intend to pay attention to Dedeline, but looked at Denos over there and thought for a moment before speaking.
“They thought there was something troublesome that needed to be dealt with privately.” He said softly, “Those two thought it would be even more troublesome over there. So they went and took care of it themselves.”
“What a good protector. I still can’t bring myself to dislike smart people.” Denos clapped his hands and said, “Actually, I’m very concerned about what they might be hiding from us, but right now we have to find the little spider properly. We need to get there before they’ve finished dealing with everything, so that we can force Ark to tell me a lot of things he didn’t want to tell me.”
"But we have absolutely no idea where that spider went."
“It’s chasing rats out, and if nothing unexpected happens, there will only be a large number of rats in the sewers. So we should be able to find them if we go for a couple of walks through the sewers.” Denoston paused and said, “What good luck, we just saw an entrance as soon as we finished speaking.”
"So we really have to go to the sewers?" Dedeline seemed to have already guessed this outcome, but she still stomped her foot in annoyance and jumped in.
"Alright, my lord, you're not going to tell me you hate the sewers..."
“You are not an ordinary human,” Chullier suddenly said, “but you don’t seem like a monster either. I can’t tell what you are.”
"What are you talking about?" Denos frowned. "Just a standard human being, subject to birth, aging, sickness, and death, without magic or holy power to repair our damaged bodies."
Can a human with monstrous abilities still be called human?
"Me, a monster? Don't embarrass me with that word. There are far too many people who fit that description." Denos smiled helplessly, pointed to his eyes, and tilted his head. "Don't worry, I can at least guarantee that my father was human."
"That's so honest, is this an admission?"
“My mother is indeed not human, she is a demon. To be precise, a demon spirit.” Denoston paused and said, his expression not very good: “That’s also what I hate about Ark. That guy actually pushed my father when he was being stupid. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here… Although I should be grateful, when I think about how I’ve hardly ever seen my family growing up, I really feel like my life is missing an important part.”
