Chapter 110 Something to be relied upon (2)

Chapter 110

"Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant." Ark felt he probably knew he had done something wrong again. What to do next to salvage the situation through the party was still unknown.

This is such a headache. This is even more troublesome than dealing with that giant monster. But she can't show it yet, because Lady is looking into her eyes.

Now, Lady's eyes seem lively and expressive. They really don't look like a doll's eyes. If it's not due to the craftsman's exquisite skill, it's because this girl herself possesses a heart that encompasses everything.

“Literal meaning. It’s easy to understand. I don’t know how I can forget that scene.” Lady paused, then smiled like a blooming flower: “There were meteorites falling from the sky, and in front of us was an endless expanse of water. There were also meadows. There was a forest that seemed to have no end. The forest was burning, the mountains were collapsing, the earth was cracking open, and everywhere you looked was collapse and destruction.”

Ark remained silent. Indeed, those were the scenes he wanted her to see, things he had witnessed, many of which were beautiful. He hoped these things would become something that Lady could use as a reason to live.

However, he now realized a serious problem: his perception of beauty seemed to differ from hers. Listening to her description, it was as if he hadn't shown her a world where she could survive, but rather a place that should have been destroyed long ago.

Fortunately, she paused for a moment, and Ark wanted to know what she would say when the pause ended.

Lady looked at Yak, took a deep breath, as if to bring her mind back to reality.

Lady's personality seems to have changed somewhat, but Ark isn't sure how much he truly understands this girl.

After all, he really had no interest in getting to know everyone's interests and hobbies properly, or in gaining a deep understanding of a particular person.

But the current atmosphere made Ark feel guilty for not noticing the changes in others.

He subconsciously thought of what Aparie had said. He had originally thought that after Lady's experiment to make her a demon was successful, Aparie would force her to stay in the city.

However, Apari said she couldn't confine a demon here; it was her freedom to go wherever she wanted. This experiment merely confirmed that the Mark of God could indeed create a demon in this way.

That's all he knew. Ark couldn't figure out what this girl, who was theoretically supposed to be operating solely on alchemical arrays, was thinking.

“You were with me in that situation.” Lady turned around and braced herself against the railing.

The metal railings came to life in an instant, with broken edges appearing on them, and the metal snake heads reflecting the firelight.

“You have mastered your abilities very well,” Ark said softly, walking over to the metal snake and grasping its hard head. The creature struggled for a moment and then remained still.

“You know my abilities very well,” Lady said. “You can handle these things very easily. I asked Aparie, and you’re very good at it.”

“Let’s not use such double entendres, they’re meaningless.” Axon paused. “Besides, your seal requires a dead demon to provide its source.”

"It was the guy you killed."

“That was Apali’s friend, so I gave the body to her,” Yak did not deny.

Lady didn't speak again, but just gazed into the distance. In the firelight, her flawless face shone brightly.

"I like you."

The topic shifted a bit abruptly.

"My appearance was quite sudden to begin with."

"Ask them why, and I'll see if I can make a change."

“When I was most desperate, you were always the closest to me. Besides that, it’s probably because in my mind’s mind, there was someone who was with me during the end of the world. You made me feel at ease.” Lady rested her head on her hand and squinted at the city walls that were still lit in the darkness in the distance.

The entire city wall became strangely twisted due to her power; the metal, which had originally acted as a sealing barrier, was completely warped. Many people are now working overtime to repair it because there's a massive monster outside that needs to be dealt with. The city gates were opened, and the warped object was dragged into the city by a mech.

The enormous monster remained motionless after the little spider left its body, having absorbed a significant portion of its magical power.

“That’s only because I was able to help. Anyone else would have helped.” Ark sighed. “I already have a fiancée.”

"I already said I knew."

“She’s a very nice girl, she’s from the church. I’m only able to avoid being hunted down by the church thanks in large part to her.” Ark looked away, not wanting to look into Lady’s eyes.

Because he felt a little reluctant, not because he was lusting after Lady's body. At this age, Ark's desire for women had almost completely disappeared.

It was simply because she was a girl who hadn't seen much beauty, and because he had protected her and stayed by her side during the few times she was in danger. There were even times when he had only watched from the sidelines. Even so, she was so eager to give herself to him.

To be frank, this girl is still too young and doesn't know what wonderful things exist in the world.

So Ark knew very clearly that he couldn't agree, yet he could also agree. He would have to take responsibility for everything she went through afterward. He would protect her in danger, comfort her in sadness, give her hope in despair, and accompany her in happiness.

Otherwise, he should let her see more before he seriously considers what he should do with his long life. After all, demons have unlimited lifespans, and he himself is a puppet. Naturally, she can live for a very, very long time.

As Ark pondered how to refuse, he suddenly realized that no one was beside him. He turned around and saw the guy squatting on the ground.

"Then do you still need me?" Lady asked softly.

“Denos, Deedri, and Krisen are all leaving. My team is quite lonely now.” Acton paused and said, “I do need a capable fighter as a companion. You are a demon, and there's not much danger left in this world for you. I will teach you how to help me like Denos did, and I believe you will do even better than him.”

"Perhaps, thank you," Lady said softly. "I don't know where else in the world I could go, thank you for taking me in."

“It’s not a matter of taking us in, we’re just partners,” Ark said, but all that could be heard was the sound of soft breathing.

She was asleep, her eyelids drooping. She was curled up in a ball, crouching there.

Yak stared, stunned, as she fell asleep.

Perhaps this guy did drink some alcohol, or perhaps he was just too tired and didn't know what to do.

So when she finished saying all that, she fell asleep. She slept so soundly, as if a sleepless person had finally found peace.

"What are your thoughts as a man burdened with sin?" Ark heard someone speaking behind him, turned around, and saw Deedri looking furious.

“I’ll take responsibility for finding something else she wants.” Acton paused and said, “You seem very angry.”

"I'm furious." Dedeline didn't hold back, walking over and grabbing his collar to lift him up, but because of her height, she couldn't lift him completely off the ground: "Are you trying to kill me? You just said I wanted to leave the team and kick me out?"

“No, it’s not.” Ark turned his head away, hesitated for a moment, and said, “It’s just that you seem very angry about Spider-Man.”

“Of course I’m angry! Just like I’ve always been angry at humans.” Dedeline shoved Ark away, then threw a punch at the railing.

But Ark grabbed her wrist with such force that it was estimated that the fall would break the fence.

"I suggest you let go of my hand, otherwise I'll tell you when I get back that you're a pervert who grabs a girl's wrist and won't let go," Dedely said viciously. The bandage on her head was still on, and the wound on her head had reopened due to her anger, staining the bandage red.

“If you make too much noise, you’ll wake Lady,” Yak explained hesitantly. “She looks really tired.”

An explosion occurred outside, apparently due to a problem during the monster's transport. Chaos erupted at the entrance. The previously quiet night was disrupted once again.

“She wasn’t even woken up by this, so what about me?” Deedri observed Lady for a few seconds, then sighed helplessly and shook off Ark’s wrist. She then walked over to Lady and untied the hairband from her hair. As Lady’s hair fell loose, Deedri had already tied her own hair into a high ponytail.

"Still only know how to tie a single ponytail?" Ark asked hesitantly. He didn't turn around, but just listened to the sparse sounds behind him.

“I really wanted to have short hair, but unfortunately, my hair is also treated. The guy who cut my hair looked at my hair with such expectant eyes. It was disgusting.” Deedri paused. “So I had to cut my own hair until recently when I had some free time and decided to grow it out again.”

"You look great with long hair," Yak complimented casually.

“Keep that insincere praise to yourself.” Deedri picked Lady up and carried her on her back. “I’m sleeping with this guy tonight. I have no idea what you’ll do to a defenseless girl.”

"Thank you." Yak breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you."

Dedeline must have overheard the entire conversation and knew it wasn't convenient for her to leave with her. That's why she came specifically to help her out of this predicament.

“I don’t want to hear a thank you from someone who’s barely told the truth. It’s ridiculous to me.” She paused as she passed Ark.

“The little spider and I are both monsters, and we both helped this city,” she said. “But just because he’s a threat, he has to be attacked? He hasn’t done anything wrong, and he has to be hated just because he exists?”

"Humans are always afraid of things stronger than themselves, just like when a spider emerges from its cocoon, you feel fear and instinctively want to fight it." Akton paused, "Not only humans, but monsters are the same."

“Yes, I hate myself too,” Deedley said softly. “Did I tell you? When Spider-Man rushed over to shield me from the gunfire, I swung my knife at him. He’s become so powerful, but I could still easily slice through his back.”

Ark paused, a hint of surprise flashing across his expressionless face.

“He focused all his attention on fighting off the artillery fire, and didn’t even groan because of the pain in his back. The guy was pretty stupid to be stabbed in the back by the person he saved,” Dedeline said softly, then gave a self-deprecating laugh. “I really am a despicable person.” With that, she pushed open the door and left, leaving Ark standing there alone.

Perhaps I should leave too, but for some reason, I always feel that there is still nothing in my heart.

I've had this feeling for a very long time—an emptiness inside, but I don't know what's missing.

He gripped his clothes and checked his chest. It felt empty, as if there was nothing inside.

I actually have a heart, but it's just that there's no need for it to beat.

The fourth person to arrive in Yantai was Lori. The little girl pushed open the door, looked at Yak, hesitated for a moment, and said...

"Did you two have a fight?" she asked with some concern. "Fighting is not good; you need to make up quickly."

Yak paused for a moment, turned to look at the little girl with a worried expression, and then smiled helplessly at himself.

To be honest, I have no experience interacting with children this young. These children seem inexplicably mature for their age. But she shouldn't be so mature; being mature at an age when she should be carefree means she's experienced too many things that children shouldn't have to go through.

"Don't worry, we didn't quarrel." Yak forced a smile onto his expressionless face and said, "You'd better hurry up and get to Karl's side, otherwise he'll make things difficult for me."

"Hehe, that's true." She scratched her head, looking quite embarrassed. "I apologize for bothering you."

As he spoke, the little head disappeared through the doorway.

Now he was all alone on the balcony, leaning against the railing, lost in thought.

I meet one new person after another, and say goodbye to one friend after another.

They keep finding their homes, finding what they need to do, and recognizing their responsibilities and obligations.

He's still running around the world, but isn't there something he absolutely has to do? He's just running away again.

There will always be people carrying responsibilities they don't want to bear, unreasonable responsibilities. After all, that's what life is all about.

A gray glint flashed in Yak's eyes, and cracks began to appear on his face.

But only for a moment. He frowned and gently pressed his hand to his face. The crack closed...
