Chapter 149
The high priest looked up at the guy trying to get himself off the wall and smiled helplessly.
His head was nailed to the wall, the back half of his head completely smashed and glued there. His limbs were imprinted on the wall as if they had been crushed by a rolling mill, all the bones in his body were broken, and many nails were driven into his body as well.
But he didn't die. On the contrary, all his wounds seemed to be healing. Then the nail suddenly moved, and the resulting thorns grew inside his body, destroying the places that had just healed again.
"Hey, hey, hey." Denos covered his mouth, tilting his head to the side, unable to contain himself any longer.
"Don't worry about me, I'm just being punished as a sinner." The high priest continued speaking, seemingly laughing, but as he laughed, his eyes darkened again: "Heh, this is hell."
"What?"
"It's nothing. Although I don't know who you are, kind person, I suggest you leave immediately. That guy has no mercy for ordinary humans." The high priest's mouth opened and closed slowly as he spoke, "Don't bother with someone like me who's asking for trouble."
"Is that so?" Seeing his expression, Denos could only slowly back away.
It doesn't look like it can still move at all; it's so tragic that it's unbearable to look at.
If I'm going to die someday, I really don't want to die like this.
Halfway across the city, Lori fell to the ground again.
She fell on the snow; it had snowed heavily the night before, and there was snow everywhere.
It was so cold that her whole body slowly turned white, and all sensation seemed to be drifting away from her.
Did I do something wrong again?
If living is a mistake, then why drag others down with you...?
Thinking this, Lori used her last bit of strength to turn her head and look at the end of the road where the sound of the cane came from.
Why was he still able to catch up? Was it because Lady and Carl... were both dead?
She dared not think any further, only watching the withered old man slowly walk towards her, the several tumor-like heads on his back chuckling eerily.
Suddenly the wall next to him cracked open, the guy suddenly disappeared, and then a house behind him collapsed, the powerful impact sending dust flying into the sky.
"Does it hurt?" Benny appeared out of nowhere, helped Benny up from the snow, and placed her hand on her wound. Gentle holy magic emanated from her palm, healing her calf.
It cannot be called treatment; it is a recovery method akin to reconstruction, where even broken bones and flesh are rapidly restored.
“Big sister?” Lori looked at her, vaguely recalling that she was the one who had warned her in the hallway.
"Although the ground is cold, please lie down here for a while and wait for me." After giving the child a simple treatment, Benny put the child down, slowly stood up, and looked sideways at the guy who had crawled out of the rubble.
The two heads on the back of that creature suddenly split open, and two spider legs grew out of its mouth and head, which helped it to get up despite its fragile body: "You still look so arrogant."
"Get out of here! Of all her lackeys, you're the one I hate the most." Benny patted her shoulder to brush off the dust. "Otherwise, I won't let you off the hook."
"My lord, are you protecting a demon?"
"I am protecting the monster."
"Still the same undeniable attitude as before." The thing's two legs had somehow grown back and were now standing on the ground again: "You probably don't remember me, so let me reintroduce myself. My name is Fei, just one character."
He clasped his hands together, and two other heads behind him sprouted long, skeletal limbs, with bizarre bone wings growing out.
The ground cracked open in large sections, and golden light was thrown back up from the ground.
Its sheer destructive power was so terrifying that it even pierced through the relatively stable surface rock layers.
Unreserved power gathered in her fist and then in her wrist, striking the monster's back and slamming it into the ground with tremendous force.
“Hey, have I told you before that I really hate things like you?” Benny stepped on him, and the monster’s bones cracked and his muscles began to break apart. “I really hate you.”
She took a deep breath, spun around at a wide angle, and with all her might, like a drawn bow, threw another punch at the guy who was already stuck in the ground.
This caused the entire city to shake violently, as if the earth's crust had been struck.
Benny stood up, squeezed her wrists, and then went over to pick Lori up from the ground.
“Hey, sir, what you’re doing is very inappropriate.” The thing got up from the ground, its bones completely shattered, so it could only support itself with its muscles: “That’s a very dangerous demon.”
“Well, but I’m a saint. You have no right to question my decisions. If you have any objections, it’s the old rule: a fight. If I lose, I’ll listen to you.” Benny glanced at him: “I have the ability to kill you. Don’t flaunt your disgusting traits in front of me.”
Fei watched Benny leave, let out a long sigh, then clapped his hands and prepared to leave.
The cross in the sky paused for a moment after he clapped his hands, then flew towards him. The heads reattached themselves to his body, and another clone crashed through several houses and stuck to him. The three merged into one, making him look emaciated and like a dying man. His entire back was filled with those heads, gurgling as if they were saying something.
"One more is needed." He paused, touched a notch on his back, and then looked at a strange place.
Inside the crumbling house, Benny is continuing to treat Lori.
"I'm sorry," Lori whispered, looking at Benny's murderous glint in her eye.
“It’s not your fault.” Benny paused. “I know that guy. He’s an vassal of the Benevolent Ones.”
She hesitated for a moment, then said, "Just like Xiaobai, and despite its appearance, it's essentially a good person."
"A good person?"
“He’s just too rigid. He’s got so many heads, but he hasn’t gotten any smarter.” Benny looked at Lori’s newly grown legs and said, “Will it work the same way as before?”
"Yes, I feel like I've almost recovered."
“Okay, then take care of yourself. I need to go help Ark.” Benny stood up, but was grabbed by the hem of her dress as she was about to leave.
She didn't force her way out, but waited quietly for her to state her request.
"Can we go help Carl?" Lori asked anxiously. "That guy shouldn't be dead yet."
“Karl? Oh, don’t worry, this guy won’t kill someone who hasn’t made a mistake.” Benny glanced at Lori: “Let’s put this aside for now. I need to check on Ark’s safety first.”
Speaking of which, where did that guy go just now?
With that thought in mind, Benny grabbed a spear that was thrusting at her with her backhand, used the momentum to fall backward, spun around her waist to compress her whole body, and then threw it out along the ground.
It doesn't matter where that thing flies.
“I’ve been feeling a chill down my spine these past two days. Sure enough, there’s an assassin.” Benny pulled Lori up, who had fallen to the ground in fright, and held her around her waist. “A Demon King level assassin. If you don’t want to become a target of our attack, you’d better stay within my sight.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the spear disappeared. There was no result; it simply flew out and vanished.
"The Demon King?" Lori was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at Benny, who was holding her and turning to leave.
"Literally, I'm quite prestigious. Every time I go out, several demon kings try to kill me. But they're obviously too weak; they don't even dare to show their faces. But it's also because I'm not a sensory type, so it's extremely troublesome for me to chase after them."
Although Benny was joking, her expression was anything but.
Come to think of it, when did they catch up with me? I had absolutely no idea.
Even the useless one didn't sense his arrival, let alone the Demon King.
This is bad. They don't live in a paradise; their home has always been a real hell. This severe lack of information could be the root cause of their demise.
Come to think of it, I was worrying too much. All I needed to care about was that Ark was alive.
Why did he even come to save Lori? Come to think of it, his original plan was to kill her. She was an unstable element, potentially jeopardizing Ark's safety.
I'm just too lazy. I finally got to see Ark and thought I could finally take a break.
What are you thinking? You're not a little kid sitting in a carriage anymore; you have a lot of responsibilities to shoulder. There's no chance for you to rest.
"Lori, do you want to live?" Benny suddenly asked, looking at Lori who was being held in her arms.
"I...I don't know," Lori said softly, "but I don't want to die."
"Is that so? Then remember this: First of all, you are a guy who should be executed, so it's normal for you to be treated however you want."
Benny carried her forward:
"Because you have power, immense power. We fear you, you will be very strong, so even the saints will fear you and will do everything they can to kill you."
"There are only two ways to survive. First, you need a place that can tolerate your survival; second, you need to ensure that your life and death are not decided by others."
Lori listened quietly, then slowly said, "Can't I just obey you?"
“You’re a monster, that can’t be changed, it’s completely unchangeable,” Benny said. “Since you’re a monster, then grow some fangs. Stand in line, don’t try to be like an ordinary human, it’s disgusting and incongruous.”
As she said this, Benny suddenly slammed her hard against the wall.
"It hurts!" Lori cried out.
"You're not hurt, you monster! You're not hurt, so why are you saying you're in pain!" Benny shouted back, "Don't yell if you're hurt! Nobody will care about you, and nobody should! You have magic, right? And a rather frightening amount at that! Use that to heal your injuries, quick! Otherwise, you'll really die."
What are you doing?
Benny suddenly heard a sound coming from the side, and her expression twitched again.
As expected, I'm so lazy that I didn't even notice this guy getting close.
“Oh, it’s you. You’ve come at the right time. This child was worried about you.” Benny pulled Lori, who was completely stuck in the wall, out and tossed her to Karl, who was standing there. “Don’t spoil her too much. As a priest, the Church will always give you a chance. You’re only alive now because I stopped you.”
Carl didn't say much, he just waited quietly for her to walk past him.
"I stayed up many nights and argued with those old geezers several times to get this done for you, to give this child a chance to live. And you won't even say thank you?" Benny sighed softly, then instantly sped away. A tremendous burst of power erupted through the street. Karl slowly removed his helmet, revealing a face filled with only confusion.
Before him lay vast ruins; the once prosperous city was now a scene of utter destruction, with collapsed buildings everywhere.
Is this something the church should be doing? Completely disregarding the lives of ordinary people, solely focused on eliminating the demon race.
“Hey, actually I suggested you hand that guy over to me.” Fei appeared in front of him again, leaning on his cane. “But since the Defenders are so determined, I really have no right to interfere. I originally planned to complete the capture mission before the Defenders gave the order, but it seems I underestimated you and that demon. It’s been a long time since I’ve fought, I’m rusty.”
"What exactly are you?" Karl looked at it and said, enunciating each word clearly, "Answer me."
“Just like you, I’m a priest.” Fei scratched his head and said helplessly, “It’s just that too many of them have died.”
"Too many people have died?"
"I can resurrect a total of 9.99 million times, a mercy bestowed upon me by the Benevolent One. Since gaining this ability, I've died about 30,000 times. At first, I was resurrected as a person, but each resurrection was off-target, so I've become the monster I am now." Fei looked at Karl, then frowned: "Did you kill my clone? That's impossible, it should be able to resurrect at least 3 million times."
"I'm just tied up; I don't have that kind of patience. But from what you're saying, you don't have the consciousness of that thing?"
“I can only connect spiritually with individuals in the same world. That world was lent to me by the Benevolent One to deal with people I can't easily deal with, like clergymen like you who have gone astray. It's right to lock you up for now.” Fei frowned. “This is bad. What can hold it back?”
Carl didn't answer, but instead carried Lori away.
This is just a pointless farce, and it applies to everything.
