Chapter 113 The Heartless Person (1)

Chapter 113

This somewhat ambiguous statement made Spider-Man a little uneasy, and he looked at the guy with a strange expression.

This guy didn't seem to have any restrained aura at all. It was only then that Spider-Man realized that he shouldn't have treated this guy as a weakling.

This guy's aura was so terrifying that it made people feel numb all over.

He stood up, his muscles tensing uncontrollably. The constant state of tension kept his heart racing.

“A bit slow, a bit different from the guys I’ve observed.” Benny raised an eyebrow. “I thought you’d be more quick-witted if you were with Ark.”

"Who are you?"

"Me? I guess you could say I'm Ark's fiancée?" Benny said casually, completely unconcerned about Spider-Man's horrified expression.

"Are you his fiancée?"

“Didn’t that guy say that? That’s making me a little angry.” Benny’s expression furrowed, but quickly relaxed.

I guess he's afraid of getting into trouble? I'm not sure, but it seems like a very beautiful woman has been following him lately. Although I'm not a monster, if I knew he was having affairs, I would still resort to domestic violence.

While it won't kill, breaking bones is the least of your worries.

Spider-Man shook his head. Ark rarely spoke of himself. Denos only learned bits and pieces about him, like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube. He had never heard of such private information before.

"Are you from the church?" he asked softly. After all, he was wearing a nun's habit; it would be strange if he weren't from the church.

But why would a monster's fiancée be a member of the church? And is this a common saying now? It seems like only kings and the like use the term "fiancée."

I'm not sure; there are just too many things to criticize. I don't even know where to begin asking questions.

"I suppose so. Now I'm called a saint, a champion of honor, and also the inspector of this world, a person endowed with authority by angels." Benny listed her titles one by one, even these seemingly arrogant titles were considered humble by her. After all, given her status, it would be normal for her to be even more haughty.

But the little spider just nodded. This guy appeared in front of him, but he couldn't sense any fear from him at all.

“Oh? Just like the intelligence, he’s an interesting fellow.” Benny wasn’t surprised, she just looked at him: “Perhaps you’re not afraid of death?”

"I'm terrified of dying."

“What an honest kid.” Benny laughed as she looked at him. “Tell me about Ark lately. I haven’t seen him in a long time, so some things might be a little different from now.”

"Him?" Spider hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to have a serious talk with the guy in front of him.

“If you’re not comfortable with that, in exchange, I’ll tell you about Ark’s past. Have you ever been curious about that thing?” Benny smiled, then leaned against the wooden pillar and yawned.

If you ignore the dark circles under her eyes, she is indeed a very pretty girl. Little Spider thought so, but those extremely dark circles made him a little scared.

He didn't stand on ceremony and sat cross-legged on the ground, looking at Benny with curiosity in his eyes.

After all, it was something that he found interesting enough.

Benny also knelt down in front of her. After removing her armor and putting on this kind of clothes, she completely lost her domineering aura and instead looked like a normal nun in a church.

“My name is Benny, and I grew up in a chaotic region.” Benny looked at the little spider and said softly, “I don’t know why, but a monster was willing to adopt me. It was a complete monster, about seven or eight meters tall, maybe a little, but that’s just my rough impression from that time.”

As she spoke, she looked up at the sky, reminiscing about that time.

However, I had told this story before, so I was very familiar with it.

That was a very, very long time ago, at least several hundred years ago.

My memories begin on a rainy day, a torrential downpour. That's where my memories start, and then there's nothing before that. From that moment on, I knew where I lived, but I just couldn't remember what happened before that.

Perhaps it was because of her age; Benny was six years old at the time. Her exact age was calculated later, and she herself wasn't sure. In any case, she wasn't called Benny then; she didn't have a name.

It was a place that wasn't particularly dangerous, but it was a strangely shaped monster.

I don't know how to recall that monster, because the place I saw it was a chaotic mess. It was always very careful to protect itself from any harm, hunting down passing humans and feeding them to it.

Aside from the humans she had eaten, the girl knew nothing of other beings like herself in the world. Perhaps she herself didn't even understand what she was.

That was a day etched particularly vivid in her memory. On that day, she looked up at the rain. The rain seemed to threaten to engulf the entire world, and she sat atop that monster's body, using it to shield her from the downpour. A metallic taste filled her mouth—the taste of someone she had devoured.

I can't recall much more, as it was all so long ago. Those were incredibly monotonous days.

Looking back, perhaps it was because it was a swamp or something similar. The rain there hadn't stopped, and the water was up to about ankle-deep. The ground was muddy, and there were giant snake-like monsters and the occasional passing merchant.

Back then, she would gaze at the distant city every day, a city belonging to humans. She looked there every day, so far away, occasionally catching a glimpse of light. She didn't know people lived there, and felt no sense of familiarity.

I was just curious to see that city through the rain.

Looking back now, both the city shrouded in swampy mist and the events of that day are likely memories that have become blurred by the passage of time.

In short, on that day, a guy appeared next to the unchanging me.

I later learned that it was Ark, but at the time, I just thought he was a guy dressed strangely.

Looking back now, that was the first time we met, and it's the earliest time I can recall.

Unfortunately, I can't remember that period of my life clearly. In fact, I've forgotten almost everything from that time.

Then she lost her memory for a long time. When she regained her memory, she had become a nun in the church and had been living there for two years.

I've forgotten what happened before that. It has to be said that the human brain is truly unreliable; that kind of organ that forgets things over time really needs to evolve.

"That guy is really weird."

Shh! Keep your voice down, she'll hear you.

That was a scene from my memory: she sat silently on a chair in the hall. Two children ran past her, whispering amongst themselves.

If I'm not mistaken, she was probably around seven or eight years old.

Two years have passed since she entered a new environment, but she has not integrated into it; she has merely entered the environment.

I didn't know human language before, but for the past two years, I've been learning about human-related things at the church.

At her age, she should normally be living in a safe zone, where orphans would be raised by the church after she came out. But she is special, special in every way.

Therefore, she was placed in the church, where children of her age should normally help adults with chores, such as cleaning.

However, it was obvious that someone who couldn't even speak wouldn't be of much help, and it was unclear how to arrange things. So, they decided to have Benny learn human language and other things first.

Suddenly, I understood what she was saying, inexplicably. I had always been confused about language, but that afternoon, I suddenly found myself able to understand what others were saying.

The first thing I heard was that I was strange, different from normal people in every way.

She sat on the bench for a long time before rising and going into the inner sanctum. That day, she learned two things: that she was an anomaly after gaining the ability to understand human language, and that this world was created by God.

Of course, there are reasons why others say she is an oddball; it's not just random talk.

It was in the morning when a pastor died of illness. He was Benny's former teacher, a gentle man.

Benny stayed in the same room with him all morning. Everyone else assumed that the mute guy was grieving over his teacher's death and didn't dare to bother him.

No one disturbed them until it was time to eat, until someone went in and saw Benny clinging to his arm and eating.

Although cannibalism is considered forgivable in this world, it is only forgivable. The person who does it is not willing, and others do not want to see it.

Benny ate her teacher as if it were perfectly natural. Although there wasn't enough food provided at the church, it was because everyone was starving. Everyone was enduring hunger, which is why the girl didn't gain weight.

This wasn't a reason to eat his body raw, although the people who came also wanted to take the priest away and process him into food later. Some were worried that she would be saddened by this.

Clearly, everyone has misunderstood this child.

That day, Benny saw Ark again, this time looking a little disheveled. His once extravagant merchant's robe was badly torn, and a monster's attack had struck him in the chest. It was covered in spikes.

It was nighttime, and I later learned that I had been injured nearby. Because removing the thorn from the wound would cause it to rot, I had no choice but to come to the church for treatment with the thorn still attached.

It was night, the sun had set, and it was raining outside. In front of the stone-built church, the man stood in the rain. His wounds had stopped bleeding, but they looked gruesome and terrifying. Benny watched him from a short distance away.

Because she had only just begun to understand human language at that time, she didn't understand many things. For example, she didn't know why she had been brought there, who he was, or whether he was edible. In short, that guy was someone deep in her memory, the one who had led her out of her loneliest moment.

"It's so good to see you're still alive," Ark said to her with a smile. He was genuinely smiling; this guy was always cheerful, as if nothing was bothering him.

In fact, during that period, Ark had just experienced the most devastating battle he had ever faced. Because he understood the mechanisms of this world and knew he was being monitored by the Church and had concealed his power, the entire caravan was wiped out after the chaotic catastrophe. All six people died there; only he survived.

Apart from the few gold coins he still carried, he had nothing left.

Of course, Benny didn't find out about these things until many, many years later—a very long time, probably a hundred years later. But at that time, she clearly remembered that Yax was smiling, looking very natural, as if he had no worries at all.

It looked like light.

That day, Ark greeted her and then left, wounded. He didn't leave the city and stayed there the whole time.

On the same day, there was another guy they encountered. He was a paladin. To be precise, it was this paladin who saved Ark.

A chaotic cataclysm has appeared outside the city. Although it's not specifically targeting the city, it's dangerous enough. Some say saints will come to help, but there's been no news.

"Wait a minute, during that period?" Spider-Man hesitated for a moment, then raised his hand and asked, "Can I ask you a question?"

“Of course.” Benny leaned against the pillar.

"There are rumors that about three hundred years ago, a demon god species appeared among the monsters." The little spider hesitated for a moment and said, "Although it is not clear which demon god's demon god species it was, it seems that something big happened in this time dimension a few hundred years ago. But there are very few records, and people in many places just regard it as a legend."

“Hmm, that period.” Benny’s expression slowly rose as she looked at Spider-Man and said, “That was a really interesting period, perfect for a biography. It’s such a shame it wasn’t documented separately.”

She looked up at the sky, slowly closed her eyes, and thought about what had happened during that time.

That period was rumored to be the time when the end of the world was nigh, and it was during that time that I encountered wonderful and grand things. I made friends, found something to do, escaped loneliness, and became someone I never imagined I would become.

Everything was so wonderful, and I haven't encountered any interesting things even now. Although it seemed like a muddy nightmare at the time, it was a highlight of my life now.

She remembered it, remembered it clearly. That night, she found the paladin, gripped the sword in his hand tightly, and then completely parted ways with normalcy.
