Chapter 245
This shotgun was made entirely from black metal. It was probably made from ordinary metal first, and then Lady modified its overall structure.
Of course, it's not completely black keys. To prevent it from being too heavy to lift, the overall weight has been significantly reduced. It's hard to imagine how much weight was reduced to make it so easy for a shut-in to lift such a large shotgun.
It also came with bullets; a total of two hundred rounds of ammunition were made, all crafted by Bai Jian. Its actual effect far exceeded expectations, demonstrating remarkable lethality against Cataclysmic-level monsters.
"But it would be such a waste for me to use such good ammunition." Ghost Duke hesitated as he looked at the bullet in his hand. This white metal was something completely beyond his understanding.
“It’s alright, just let me know when you run out of ammo. Getting this kind of stuff is a piece of cake for me.” The Benevolent One paused and said, “Consider it payment for your work.”
“This treatment is really too good,” Ghost Duke said. “I don’t feel like I’ve done anything.”
"Being able to chat with someone every day makes me feel that my involvement is perfectly reasonable."
"It's not like no one wants to chat with you. Besides, if you mean interesting, sooner or later you'll find me boring too."
“At least until now, you haven’t bored me with your talking.” The benevolent one didn’t want to hear this guy spout more useless nonsense.
She just wanted to talk to this guy.
This guy named Ghost Duke always manages to come up with completely different ideas in many strange places. Perhaps it's because his thought process is really a bit different from others, so he often has ideas that even she thinks are great.
"Speaking of which, why do we have to deal with that guy named Ark?" Ghost Duke hesitated for a moment before saying, "Didn't you say that no matter what Ark becomes, he won't be outside the Church's control? You have five saints, while he only has one. At least theoretically, he has three people who are completely unstoppable. This is an absolute victory."
"We should not leave any possibility of the world being destroyed."
"You call something completely impossible 'preserving a possibility'? And you, my great benevolent one, please get your priorities straight, okay?" Ghost Duke paused and said, "If I remember correctly, safe zones are starting to appear somewhere in the world. This is unprecedented, and such events usually propel the story forward with some truly outrageous developments. Shouldn't your attention be focused on something like this?"
"This matter is over. The result is that the Immortal went to that safe zone. With him there, there's no safety in that zone. He's one of the few people I absolutely trust. As long as he's there, I believe there won't be any problems." The Benevolent One looked at the Ghost Duke sitting there: "Is there a problem?"
"No, I was thinking, the reason that thing can expand is because it's fueled by magic, right? Well then, I have an idea." Ghost Duke paused and said, "If we gather all the magic seals and magic power there, could we create a safe zone the size of a world?"
A deathly silence fell; the benevolent remained silent.
“No, I was just kidding. Just thinking about it makes me realize it’s almost impossible,” Ghost Duke quickly said. “Never mind what I said.”
What are you thinking? From the theoretical perspective of this world, all chaotic realms are a mixture of holy magic and magical power. All the magical power in the world? It sounds too easy, but in reality, it's hard to imagine how terrifying the workload would be.
Leaving aside the workload or how long it would take to achieve this, the real question is whether this is even possible. It's like trying to concentrate all the carbon dioxide in the original world.
This is impossible. The reason I made such a suggestion is because I didn't fully understand just how bad the current environment has become.
“That’s feasible,” the benevolent one said softly, “but there are many issues that need to be considered.”
Ghost Duke's heart skipped a beat, then he turned to look at the thoughtful Benevolent One.
"I just said it offhand." Ghost Duke regretted that he hadn't thought things through before blurting it out.
This is a huge problem! All the magic in the world... including all monsters? Wait, this world has my favorite non-human girls and animal-eared girls... It seems like these two are classified similarly? Oh well, I don't care about the details. Anyway, if this is feasible, the real worry isn't whether we can separate all the carbon dioxide in the world, but rather if all the non-human girls in the world are pieced together into fused monsters because of this—that would be too tragic. ^
Ghost Lord had no doubt that these people would create something similar to a slime. He figured that such a fusion monster would be incredibly sanity-draining, and he might go crazy if he saw it.
Well, it's probably best to abandon this dangerous idea altogether.
“If the whole world could become a safe zone, it would be worth betting everything on it,” the Benevolent One said. “That’s the legendary world, the whole world is a so-called paradise.”
"No, calm down, let's discuss something else. Weren't we just talking about the distribution of the Demon God Seals?" Ghost Duke tried to change the subject: "What are your thoughts?"
“I don’t know, even though it took me nearly a thousand years to create this thing. To be honest, I wouldn’t dare try it on myself,” the Benevolent One said. “Now I’m starting to fear death, all because of you. Because of you, I know there are still interesting things in the world. I probably won’t want to die until I get tired of you.”
"So you're really going to let me use it without worry? If I die because of this, won't your only source of amusement be gone?"
"It's just losing the joy of living again. Even if you live, you'll lose it in a hundred years at most," the benevolent one said. "It's only a matter of time, I don't care."
“Absolutely! Okay, I can try first. Then you can see if it can still be taken out. I'm warning you, I definitely might mess things up.” Ghost Duke repeated, “But I think we should really reconsider? We've been at peace for so long, let's not fight. God loves the world, he doesn't want us to fight.”
"Fight? You make it sound so easy."
"How do you think it's any more noble than fighting?"
"This is love."
"Huh? You actually took my theory seriously? No way, this world needs a great person, not a giant salted fish. Don't let me influence you. You become like those you associate with, and you become like those you associate with. If you get too close to a salted fish, your own saltiness will increase." Ghost Duke said this, then inserted two bullets and aimed them at the sky.
The booming sound was more like thunder than gunfire. The sky was already somewhat gloomy, shrouded in clouds, and the world was dim and lacking in light under the overcast sky.
The benevolent man looked at the man beside him, expressionless.
It's not that I wasn't emotionally affected; I just felt a little envious, a little jealous, a little pitiful, a little angry, and a little sad...
At the same time, there were too many emotions mixed in, and I didn't know what expression to make.
"Haha! Ha! Hahahaha! Ahahaha!"
That was laughter, a hearty laugh, while he was coughing up large amounts of blood.
The moment the gun was fired, the immense recoil shattered the right side of his body. The terrifying bullet even parted the clouds in the sky, and the sunlight shone through them like holy light onto the man who was already half-destroyed.
He was laughing, laughing recklessly and inexplicably.
Why was he laughing? He was so fragile that he couldn't even withstand such a recoil! Such a divine weapon would be wasted in his hands!
But... why not smile?
The benevolent man waited until the man had completely lost consciousness from blood loss, then raised his hand, and the man instantly recovered. He walked over, retrieved the shotgun that had flown far from his grasp, placed it on the man's body, and smiled helplessly.
It's like how family members feel a little helpless when their child falls asleep from exhaustion while playing with toys.
And so, lying in the light, lying in the blood, he fell asleep, clutching that exaggerated shotgun.
“You’ve become so boring.” Not knowing what was appropriate, Benny stood in the shadows not far away.
"Greetings, you still look as imposing as ever today. Miss Knight, what brings you here?" The Benevolent One smiled and bowed slightly to her, saying, "This is not the place to talk."
“Your tone has been assimilated by this bastard, and I find it annoying.” Benny frowned, then relaxed, sighed, and looked at the guy lying unconscious on the ground: “This guy isn’t very capable, but he’s made quite a commotion. Not just me, but half the city’s guards were alerted.”
"Then please help me convey the message: just pretend nothing happened." The Benevolent One said, then slowly sat down next to Ghost Duke, gently brushing the messy hair from his face, and then sat there gracefully. She didn't care at all that her pure white dress was stained with his red, dirty blood.
A breeze blew, ruffling her hair, as she looked out over the fields from the church dome.
The holy nun sat down next to the man covered in blood, her dress stained with blood, her hair blowing in the wind.
"Madman," Benny cursed under her breath, her expression twisted and terrifying.
She stood in the shadows, while they sat in the sunlight, as if they were favored by the gods.
I don't know when the roles were reversed; normally, this guy would be standing in the shadows at times like this.
Time has passed, a long time has gone by, many things have happened, and many things have changed.
Fortunately, one thing remained unchanged: Benny still loathed the Benevolent One, finding him utterly repulsive. Just as she had hated this guy from the beginning, this so-called Benevolent One truly made her feel nauseous.
Why would such a person be chosen as a saint? Why would God believe that such a person is capable of fulfilling the tasks He has entrusted to Him?
This question made her deeply dislike benevolent people, from the very beginning.
She still hates her now, hates her terribly. Just looking at her makes her feel a burning rage inside, the kind of hatred and disgust that makes her want to stab her all over with a knife. She doesn't want to see her or acknowledge her.
But the reason has changed; it's simply that those in the shadows feel aversion towards those who radiate light. This being has reverted to the benevolent one known to the immortals and guardians a thousand years ago.
"Speaking of which, I have a favor to ask," the benevolent person suddenly said. "Can you help me?"
"cannot."
"Would you like to hear it?"
"In no mood."
Haha, looks like you're in a bad mood right now.
"Seeing you makes me feel terrible. Why are you even alive, you jerk who ruins my mood?"
“You look very agitated.” The benevolent one remained calm despite being told this much: “Junior, you’d better take a good look at your face in the mirror, look into those eyes. Don’t you think you need to calm down right now?”
Benny didn't answer, she just looked at her silently.
The benevolent man turned and glanced at her, then continued looking outside.
"I will request a document later; I need a vote. The content is..."
“I disagree. No matter what you choose, I will choose the opposite side,” Benny said softly. “Don’t tell me, I’m just simply annoyed with you. Very annoyed, regardless of right or wrong.”
"Is that so?" The Benevolent One smiled helplessly, rubbing his hair with his hand. "Is it retribution for the things I did that I have such a junior who hates me so much? That is indeed a bit cruel. However, Yashiro Ritsu, from the very beginning, I have hoped to get along with you amicably, whether you believe it or not. You just need to know that I have always wanted to stand by your side."
“This doesn’t make sense. Why are you doing this?” Benny said, annoyed. This guy kept repeating this point, and it was this feeling that made her feel uncomfortable all over.
That's the feeling of having made the wrong judgment.
"Because? If I had to say, it's probably because we're the only two women among the saints. I've always been quite lonely until you joined me. I thought maybe I could finally have a good friend. I just never expected something like this to happen." The Benevolent One stroked Ghost Duke's head. The guy was sleeping soundly, the fainting spell from the pain and blood loss making him very comfortable.
I bet it's been a very, very long time since I've slept this well. There's nothing more comfortable than a deep, unconscious sleep.
Benny didn't answer, but silently walked over and stood beside her.
The light still did not shine on her; there remained a boundary called light between them.
The two people were so close, yet so far apart. So close that they could stand up and embrace, yet so far that it felt as if an entire world separated them.
“Where’s the madman?” Benny said softly.
"A very objective assessment," the benevolent person replied.
