Chapter 151
The high priest leaned against the wall, each step incredibly difficult.
Actually, his condition was similar to Lady's, after all, he had just finished a battle that seemed to have ended with the demon.
But the guy he was fighting is the guy standing right in front of him now.
“Ark, is that your name?” he asked in an almost trembling voice.
In an instant, six nearby houses were destroyed. That was only because of the pressure generated by the clash of suppressed magic power when he resisted with holy magic, leaving behind broken eaves and walls all around.
Is it because of you?
The arm that had just recovered was now wracked with indescribable pain, and my heart was being gripped tightly.
The moment they make contact, all defenses and resistance are futile.
“Although I’m very worried about the Church’s retaliation after killing a saint, you seem to be very resilient.” Ark’s voice was very low, and his expression became increasingly ferocious.
Strictly speaking, a completely expressionless face at this moment looks extremely ferocious: "Did the Benevolent One grant you 990,000 resurrections? I just killed you 20,000 times, didn't I? I didn't intend to really destroy you, but at least let me kill you 300,000 times, right? Tell me, shouldn't it be like this? You've put many of my friends in danger, so it's understandable that I'm angry, right? So you have to take responsibility, don't you?"
After each sentence was finished, Ark would tear off a part of his body, wait for it to grow back, and then tear it off again.
He was truly furious, but helpless. He could only calm down a little by beating up the culprit in his rage.
The fact that the disciples of the Benevolent have arrived signifies that this matter is beyond redemption. Even Benny's personal presence couldn't stop others from interfering, which gives a glimpse into the extent of the Church's hostility towards them.
They didn't even need the ability to see hostility to feel the despairing walls. They were surrounded; even on the plains, once those guys set their sights on them, they were tightly encircled.
With no other options, they came here hoping to escape, but instead found themselves surrounded even more.
A few minutes later, Yak got tired and carried the high priest down the long corridor, leaving a trail of red blood.
Lady was carried to a relatively safe place, to the coffin they had brought. The girl had been injured, and if she wasn't placed in the coffin, she would decay and turn into a mindless monster.
Come to think of it, he himself seems to have been corrupted as well. However, as a demon, he can also use similar methods to heal himself.
The prerequisite is that he must have pure magic, but his magic is no longer pure, and he also needs the help of the priests.
Of course, it's not about dragging this guy along; he needs to tear him to pieces to vent his anger.
So I still need to go find Benny. Thinking about it this way, that girl is really amazing; she always helps me at the most crucial moments.
His ears twitched, and he turned his head to look at the spatial rift that had been torn open.
"Yo, monster." He said, slowly clenching his right hand, black veins crisscrossing across it: "What is it?"
But no one answered him, and all he could see were the enormous eyes inside, eyes as big as himself, tearing open a rift in space with tentacles to reveal those black eyes with purple undertones.
"Is this what you're raising?" Ark glanced at the high priest he was dragging, and before he could answer, he threw him in, smashing him hard into the eye. The spatial rift closed, and in the end, only groans of excruciating pain could be heard.
It was a scream born of pure, excruciating pain, a scream that seemed to come from something in hell.
Ark didn't want to get involved; the high priest was none of his concern anymore.
It would be difficult for this guy to die. This guy, who was given so many resurrections, would start to regenerate after dying enough times, and eventually become a monster-like cripple.
No matter what, that guy can still live. Being alive means he can start over, and starting over means he can get back everything he once had.
It would be too despicable for that guy to survive. Just because he betrayed his friend, how many more people would die? Even if he were to survive by chance, he would be seriously injured, and it would be hard to say whether the plan could be completed as scheduled.
We must leave immediately, even if there are no supplies or goods available.
At least half of the carriages were abandoned, and it was possible that only one could be left to speed things up.
If there are no carriages available for rest, running at carriage speed for a week is no problem.
However, they can't go without supplies; at least for now, Lady is still human, and she needs to eat.
So we need to prepare at least one week's worth of food for one person to reach Lingsen. As for consumables, there's no time to prepare medicine now.
It's impossible to predict what this city will become, and that's not something I should care about.
"Please save my husband!" Yak heard someone groaning like this beside him. His expression slowly turned cold as he looked at the man trapped under the rafters and the woman whose hands were covered in wounds from trying to pry the rafters off.
It was because of his own death; his own magic collided with the holy magic and bounced off, directly destroying nearby buildings and leading to the scene before him.
What's going on? There shouldn't be anyone here. I already sensed it; there shouldn't be anyone here...
That should be the case. I simply glanced at it and came to this conclusion without paying any attention. Therefore, my mind, filled with anger, led me to make such a crude judgment.
Because so many people have died because of me, upon careful reflection, I realize that I have committed heinous crimes.
"I'm very sorry," Ark said in a very soft voice, and then disappeared from the spot.
They will die if left unattended, and they will also die if you help them; in addition, the latter will only waste time.
If time is wasted, you might not even be able to survive.
He felt terrible, but he truly had no strength left. It was as if there was an hourglass behind him; if he wasn't fast enough, he would be buried alive.
In short, we need to gather together first, as we haven't fully figured out what exactly happened.
A brief respite, but only superficially. The chaos is far from over; something has awakened.
Although the city seems much quieter now, anyone can feel that pervasive sense of fear—a fear of the unknown, a deep-seated desire to escape.
Ark was also greatly affected by that thing, making him want to escape.
But everyone was in chaos. All he knew was that Lady was resting temporarily in a coffin, and most importantly, Carl and Lori were nowhere to be found.
Time is of the essence; that thing could explode at any moment.
Within the entire city, it was impossible to discern locations using magic or hostility. In Ark's eyes, he was completely immersed in darkness. Utter chaos rendered his senses of hostility and magic utterly useless.
Half an hour later, having found nothing, he could only find some ruins to rest in.
Ha, and then the result came quickly. If he had saved those people earlier, he could have spent half an hour helping the two civilians he had accidentally injured. But even that small decision was wrong; he kept making mistakes, as countless corpses could prove.
"Where did you go?" Yak looked up from his daze and saw Benny standing in front of him without him noticing.
Yak looked at her, not wanting to say much, but feeling touched.
In the end, it was Benny who found him. She stood there, not wearing armor, but a slightly made-up white dress. Her golden hair was blown about by the air currents coming from all directions.
It was spotless, standing there like a carefree angel.
"Benny?" Yak called softly, then slowly stood up and hugged her tightly.
Then slowly relax, just for a short rest, as if all the fatigue in your body has been wiped away.
“You’re injured.” Benny looked at the wound on Ark’s chest; the bleeding had stopped, but an infection had begun.
Her voice was somewhat cold, as if she had a temper, but she quickly realized what she should do and placed her hand on his open wound, gathering a large amount of holy power on it to clear away the complicated chaos.
Ark grasped her wrist, and she paused, looking up at Ark's somewhat relieved smile.
“Now is not the time for treatment. I have plenty of time to let it recover when we have some free time,” Acton Layton said. “I should find Lori now and then take her and Carl and leave here immediately.”
“I refuse. I think you should be treated now.” Benny used her other hand to remove the object that Ark had placed on her wrist. “Don’t go looking for Lori. As long as that guy is around, he will keep inflicting potentially fatal damage on you. Once your wounds are healed, we’ll find Little White and the Swordsmith and leave.”
“Benny, they are my companions. Lori trusts me to keep her safe.” Yak paused, looking at her. “Benny, those are my companions, and I am responsible for their safety.”
“You’d better stop! I can’t ignore whose safety you’re responsible for. I’m only responsible for your life or death.” Benny said, suppressing her anger, “I helped them only because it would make you feel at ease, nothing more, just a small favor. But now helping them means I’m putting you in danger.”
"Trust me a little, okay? I am Ark, you know my strength."
“Your abilities have spiraled out of control to this extent, how can you expect me to believe in them?” Benny grabbed his collar, pulled him against the wall behind him, and then tore open his clothes along the wound.
Ark's body, which had been hidden beneath his clothes, was exposed, revealing a network of black veins. Beneath his skin, a heart with both black and red markings was beating faintly.
"You cut yourself, didn't you?" Benny asked softly. "If you wanted to, very few people could hurt you. You couldn't control your strength, so you used this self-harm to calm yourself down."
Yak did not deny it, but simply looked into her eyes.
“There was a similar situation once. Except the guy who lifted me up like that was someone you hated,” Ark said softly. “You were in a city that had become ruins, and it was very risky for me to go find you. That guy grabbed me by the collar and said the same thing.”
"So you want to be as disobedient as you were back then?" Benny shook her head. "Don't be so stubborn. I'm not the Benny I used to be, and you're not the Ark you used to be. We've both reached a point where we can't be willful anymore."
She slowly loosened her grip, then a bandage formed on Yak's wound to stop the bleeding: "But as I said, I need to find Little White. That child came with me; I have to get her back alive. Then we'll gather at the church here; there are some medicines and food there, and I have the right to requisition a small amount of supplies."
"I'll be careful not to die before then." Ark sighed, meaning he would finish assembling the team before she found Little White.
But where is everyone right now?
“If Lori and Carl are alright now, they should be looking for a chance to leave,” Benny said. “I was worried about trouble later, so I didn’t invite them over. If you’re going to take them with you, you’d better make it seem like you’re not going anywhere together.”
She frowned as she said this.
“I reiterate, that guy is extremely dangerous.” Benny sighed. “You’d better make up your mind to abandon the child now and let the church take her away. It’s better for everyone.”
"Based on your understanding of me, do you think I would agree?"
"impossible."
"Then why ask a question you already know the answer to?"
“Just because I don’t think someone deserves your attention.” Benny looked up at the torn space in the sky, her enormous body being pushed out of the gap in space.
His appearance was expected long ago, and now all the big shots in the city have been waiting for this guy to reveal his true identity.
The Demon King—although no one knew which Demon King it was, its aura gave everyone here complete certainty.
It appeared directly above the city; in an instant, countless gaps appeared in the sky.
The tentacles that filled the entire sky crashed down onto the earth. Their weight seemed unpredictable, and they made a sound like thunder as they landed.
There was also black mud cascading down, pouring from the gaps in the space and spilling into the entire city.
“Wow, it’s huge.” Benny gave a wry smile. “It’s not an easy opponent.”
“If the space there is compressed open, that thing will just press down directly.” Ark looked at it and felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
"We can only be thankful that thing hasn't fallen yet. If it had really opened such a large spatial portal, this city would be finished."
