Chapter 155 After the Disaster (1)

Chapter 155

Yak landed on the ground, but lost his footing. His ankle was fractured by the impact when he landed. The force of falling from a height of tens of meters caused him to fall to the ground, roll three times, and then be dragged back to the carriage by spider silk.

Also falling to the ground was the enormous creature behind them, tens of meters tall, which shook the entire carriage slightly before returning to the ground.

"You're tired, let me take over?" Chrison skillfully grasped his ankle to set the bone and helped him expel the stagnant blood.

"Damn it." Ark looked a bit dejected, propping himself up and shaking his head. It was still a stretch, as expected. He hadn't used that combat technique in a long time, and it was a high-difficulty aerial spin, plus he was a bit weak. It was a bit embarrassing to land poorly and make a fool of himself.

But nobody cares about his embarrassing moment now, because that was the last one, or more accurately, the last one chasing them. From the moment they left until now, a total of seven Catastrophe-level monsters have been cut down by Ark.

Without waiting for his reply, Krissen went through the door and onto the ground, holding Little White's bow in his hand. The white bow turned black in his hand. He twisted his wrist and plucked the bowstring, and several attracted monsters collapsed after having their magic cores pierced through them.

The monstrous creature before him suddenly exploded, its original body rapidly collapsing, startling the little spider. When he came to his senses, he was struck on the head by a fist-sized magic core. He grabbed the object in pain, realizing it was the core of the great monster.

“That thing was too big, I couldn’t take it all, so I cut off a piece.” Ark’s voice rang out from below: “You’re lacking too much magic power, eat it.”

"Thank you." Chris didn't refuse further; he didn't have time for that now. He tossed the magic core into the air, and the spider legs behind him rapidly trembled, wrapping it in white spider silk. An eerie purple light shone from within, hanging around its neck like a portable lamp.

Although it's food, eating this stuff will definitely cause stomach upset. So, weighing the pros and cons, this absorption method is more suitable.

After carefully aiming for a while, the black arrow pierced through several more monsters. He wiped the sweat from his brow.

Chrison is the type to get nervous afterward; when he's in the moment, he instinctively follows his rational, subconscious judgment. Only when he has a moment to rest does he start to worry about what would have happened if he had missed and become anxious.

Aside from his mental fortitude, all his talents are geared towards combat. If he wanted to be a villain, massacring an entire city wouldn't be a problem for him.

Fortunately, he is a self-aware guy, and even now he is still someone who cares about whether he is disliked by others.

They had basically broken out of the encirclement, and the carriage's speed gradually decreased to a normal level. The high temperature caused by the acceleration had brought the operating system close to collapse.

"What should I call you?" As the little spider looked around warily, he suddenly heard someone calling him. He turned his head and saw a girl sitting up next to him.

It was an elf, and it seemed that Ark had persuaded him to join the party. Krisen didn't pay much attention; he was a crucial member of the team and hadn't rested since earlier. Therefore, he hadn't had a chance to meet this legendary, beautiful race. Because whether he liked it or not, they would soon be heading to their settlement.

Come to think of it, looking at this guy up close, I inexplicably feel like he might have some connection to me. It's a strange feeling. I'm definitely seeing this guy for the first time. Have I seen him somewhere in this city? I shouldn't have no recollection of him at all; he's a very pretty girl. If I'd seen him before, I should definitely remember him.

The fact that he has no memory of this person is proof that he has never met him.

The elf shrugged. She had absolutely no idea what this guy was thinking. She just felt that he was a bit muddle-headed. Although he seemed aloof, she always felt that he was someone who wasn't serious at all. He had a kind of easy-going vibe.

This feeling was inexplicable, because although the elf knew this guy was very weak, he had also witnessed him instantly kill a calamity-level monster. He maintained this expression throughout, a bit dazed, a bit serious. But once his focus shifted, his adorably dazed nature would reappear.

He shifted his position slightly to the side so the elf wouldn't be pushed aside, then continued to grip his longbow, aiming at the surrounding monsters. None of the creatures that tried to approach were coming. He stood there; it was safe.

Ark and Karl were the ones who came to do this work before, but both of them were lying down. Excessive exertion meant they needed rest to recover. Even Deedri came to help, but she also had to rest after a short while.

So it was his turn, but it seemed there were two other cats in the group who could do this simple task. Spider-Man racked his brains, but couldn't figure anything out. He was just thinking, not trying to arrive at a specific answer.

Perhaps it's because his intelligence has increased after becoming a Chaos Calamity, he spends more and more time spacing out. He even spaces out during battles, though he can't find a reason not to. Like right now, even while spacing out, this guy can still effortlessly use his longbow to destroy one monster after another that tries to approach.

Leaving no room for error, anyone who gets close will be destroyed by arrows. It seems he always uses the longbow. This weapon is as natural to him as an extension of his body.

"That was accurate." The elf said casually, she too could do what she had just done with her longbow, piercing through six monsters with two arrows.

However, it's impossible to calculate it perfectly, with just the right amount of force and placement, without any waste. It hits the magic core precisely, without injecting excessive magic power. It's as if it was determined that it wouldn't hit anywhere else except the magic core, so there was no need to add more magic power to it.

The little spider nodded, still lost in thought, and barely responded to the conversation.

The elf found it a bit boring, so it continued to sit nearby. It was morning, but contrary to the usual high temperatures of this area, it wasn't hot. Instead, it was still tiring and a bit chilly. It felt like they were passing through a cemetery, and a coldness capable of freezing one's soul seemed to move from the ground.

She looked around at the white surroundings—it was snow. It had started snowing again. In an instant, a heavy snowfall began, like a gust of wind, drastically reducing visibility. The demons were also blinded by the sudden snowfall, howling in the cold. The carriage seemed to be passing through hell, surrounded by the cries of evil spirits.

The little spider stretched its arms. This heavy snow came at just the right time for them; after all, they needed weather that could trap these monsters.

Although there are many other suitable conditions compared to heavy snow, heavy snow is definitely the best choice if you don't want your movement speed to be hindered.

In the heavy snow, the monsters lost their way. The little spider used its silk to add a thin layer of web to the carriage, and with this, the carriage completely disappeared from their senses. Now, in their view, the enormous carriage was completely empty.

The elf looked at the snow outside and suddenly felt that she had been dreaming, or perhaps she was actually dead. This carriage was the one that carried the dead to the land of the dead, and she was now completely rotten.

But before long, an unexpected warmth suddenly swept over her. She turned her head in surprise and saw the little spider draping the clothes he was wearing over her.

It's a simple outer shell. Only when you touch it do you realize that what this thing is wearing isn't just clothes. It's a stiff outer garment formed by sticking fabric together with something like spider silk.

This thing looks very sturdy, but it's surprisingly flexible, and wearing it feels like wearing animal skin. The outside temperature must have suddenly dropped to below zero, but the cold disappeared the moment I put it on.

"Be careful, you'll catch a cold," the little spider said, though his words carried no weight, as he was only wearing a simple sweater.

Then he jumped down, and Ark picked up his scythe from the carriage and threw it away, returning the longbow. He then walked ahead of the carriage with two short scythes, slicing the monsters the caravan encountered in half before they could even react.

Without any communication, this guy automatically changed his position. He seemed a bit dazed, which was indeed the case. He appeared tired, his eyes filled with confusion, walking at the front as if sleepwalking. There was no murderous intent, but he wouldn't hesitate to strike.

It's like a robot born to kill.

"My little spider stick!" After she got off, she saw Deedris sitting in the carriage, drinking hot water and smiling at her.

"Your boyfriend?" the elf asked curiously, taking a thermos from Gray's hand. She showed no surprise at the winged cat suddenly transforming into human form. After all, she had seen many strange things on this carriage so far. She was already used to such things and felt there was absolutely no need to be surprised.

Because this is just a place, there's nothing more to explain.

"Hmm, it's hard to say," Dedeline replied casually, continuing to drink her hot water. "I don't know how this guy feels about me. But having a boyfriend like that would be really reassuring."

As she said this, she looked at Ark beside her and asked, "Did you take any wine with you when you left?"

“No, I put all that stuff down.” Yak said softly, lying in the corner. “After all, you can see there are quite a few people in the carriage now. I couldn’t find a place to put more wine.”

“That makes sense.” Deedri nodded, looking into the carriage.

In one of the carriages at the front were Karl and Lori, and in another were Lady and Little White. The rest of them were all here. The hot water had just boiled, and everyone was gathered around drinking it. Because of the hot water outside, the temperature in the carriage slowly began to rise, making them feel incredibly happy in this cold place.

"Now that you have some time, can you tell me about the freaks in your team?" The elf rested his head on his hand, looking at the guy in front of him. He could finally take a break now.

Surprisingly, perhaps because she had just woken from unconsciousness, the elf didn't feel out of place in this unfamiliar illusion for the first time. Even though she only recognized Ark here, and even then, she knew he was untrustworthy. Logically, she shouldn't have felt this was a place to breathe; staying in the safe zone was definitely the right choice.

But surprisingly, I felt at ease, as if I had arrived in a place where I could finally relax. However, the creatures here were all monsters, and I was merely a calamity-level monster. In this world, I seemed destined to be torn apart.

“Using words like ‘freak’ to describe us is too harsh.” Yak breathed slowly with his eyes closed. “We’ll talk about it later. I need to take a nap. Girls? Do you mind if I sleep in this corner? If you do, I’ll go to the other carriage.”

He was lying on a piece of animal hide that was still relatively intact. Animal hides are valuable resources no matter where they are, so he still didn't want to throw it away.

“This is your carriage, please make yourself at home. It’s afternoon now, so if you go to sleep now, I’ll have to trouble you to keep watch.” Deedri glanced at him: “You are much weaker than you were back then. You wouldn’t have shown such a vulnerable side so easily back then.”

Yak didn't answer; he had fallen asleep. His face was pale, his breathing had almost stopped, and even his heartbeat had weakened considerably.

This guy is also a demon, and it's unclear where his demon core is, so we can't use this method to judge. But since even mimicking a humanoid form is proving difficult, things aren't looking good.

Dedeline rubbed her head. Her magic core was located in her heart, and this guy should have it too, if nothing unexpected happened. After all, the magic core was responsible for supplying magic power to the whole body, and there was no more suitable location for all bodily functions than the heart. Humanoid monsters should all have their magic cores in their hearts.

She looked up at Yak; blood was still slowly flowing from his chest. How long had it been, and the bleeding still hadn't stopped?

Surely not? Even if this guy is weak, he shouldn't be like this, right?

"Hey, hey, hey, your magic core isn't in your chest, is it?" Dedeline stood there stunned, and when she tried to pull open his clothes to see what was wrong, he casually blocked her way.

"Don't meddle in other people's business." Ark said softly, "Don't worry, I caused this wound myself. I'm not stupid enough to hurt my magic core."

"So what's wrong with you now?"

"I'm just a little tired. Don't worry, I'll be fine when I wake up."
