Chapter 83
"So slow." Natara looked at the boy who walked in with dissatisfaction.
He scratched his head to express his apology, then sat down opposite him, and the doll standing next to him immediately served him a tea set.
He turned his head and saw the two guys who had followed him, each wearing a noise-canceling earmuff, playing chess nearby. There were some simple forms of entertainment here, and playing chess, something that could kill time without needing to talk, was obviously a good option.
These two guys seemed fairly conscientious and didn't seem to be eavesdropping. However, their position was rather intriguing, offering a clear view of the entire room. It seemed like they would come up whenever I had even the slightest hint of something amiss.
The woman should be Deedris, the Dragon Slayer. As a monster, her level is at least five, though it's hard to say whether she has any calamities. But she has indeed killed calamities.
The man was unfamiliar, but he appeared to be a sorcerer. He intentionally or unintentionally revealed the talismans he had prepared at his waist; a quick glance told me it was enough to blow this place up.
These two guys look like troublesome individuals. Although I can handle them, it will be difficult to keep them from causing a commotion.
However, I really have no intention of being hostile. After all, the consequences would be severe and there would be no direct benefits. It is not something a shrewd person should do if it only results in losses.
"There's something I need to take care of." He scratched his head and said, "Tara, um..."
"Include your surname. I'm not close enough to you to just call you by your first name."
"Okay, okay, sigh..." He sighed, "Then can you call me by my name? The title 'patron' sounds just as unpleasant."
"What's your name again? Don't tell me yet, let me think... Hmm, Churley?"
"It's Chullier."
“Almost. So, Chuliel, I want to know why there’s a problem with the purity of the magic.” Natara showed no respect for him whatsoever. She took off the bracelet from her wrist, then plucked a crystal from it and placed it on the table: “Take this and release the magic.”
"Didn't you consider that there might be a problem with other materials?"
“The other materials have all been checked and are fine; only a few insects died. Besides the magic power, I also just checked the holy magic power, and those things do indeed have problems, but that's a story for later. I need to know if there's a problem with the magic power first.” Natara pointed to the crystal: “It's a very simple matter; don't take up too much of my time.”
This time, the guy didn't say anything more. He just held the thing in his hand for a moment and then put it down. The original color had completely faded and turned into a light purplish-gray.
This is very impure magic. Generally, magic is monochromatic. But this mixed color is like paint; the grayer and dirtier it is, the lower its purity.
This kind of magic would probably be very weak by now if it were a different monster.
“My magic has been like this for half a month,” he said softly. “But it can be restored, it will probably take about two months. Until then, I’m sorry, I can’t find a source of pure magic.”
"Is it because of the Blood Sun?" Natara looked at the crystal, saying nothing more. She simply asked softly.
The guy who had been sitting there like a child about to be scolded suddenly changed his expression and looked up in astonishment.
"How did you know? I clearly..." He realized he had let something slip, but he just frowned and swallowed back the words he was about to say.
“Those two guys came with the people outside, and their conversation told me about this big event happening outside.” Natara pointed to the two guys sitting next to her playing chess: “I’m also surprised that I didn’t sense anything about something of such a large scale.”
When the two men saw that they were being pointed at, they thought there was a security problem. Instantly, they went from being relaxed to looking menacing.
Because those two earmuffs are really effective; once you put them on, you really can't hear anything.
Although these two guys were seriously completing the tasks assigned to them, it was still hard not to laugh at how they seemed to be a little slow on the uptake.
Chullier looked at the two men for a long, long time before nodding.
"I don't want the people here to know about the Blood Sun, and I especially don't want anyone to know that I was injured because of it." He paused, then turned to look at her and said, "Have I told you what my abilities are?"
“You can distort energy fields within your domain, but I don’t know the specifics. And don’t tell me, I’m worried I’ll be assassinated someday if I do. I just didn’t expect your domain to be large enough to cover the entire city.” Natara paused and said, “Or rather, you unfolded your domain and covered the city.”
“As you said, don’t ask about the details. Just know that I used this method to protect us from the Blood Sun. But because of this, I was corrupted and haven’t been able to cleanse myself yet.” He paused and said, “I’m very sorry that the magic you received is impure because of this. I bear the main responsibility for this, but it must be kept secret. At least until I recover, I don’t want anyone to know that we almost perished.”
“You’re a good lord, but I must explain. Black Flower is the most in-demand type of witchcraft potion right now, and we need a large amount of pure magic power to supply it. Without your supply, relying solely on monster cores would be an astronomical cost.” Natara looked at him and said, “How do you plan to deal with the next few months without Black Flower? We don’t have any high-ranking clergy here, and the Church won’t send any, nor would you want to see them. And are you lying to me? Completely corrupted and only needing a few months to recover? I don’t think it’s possible for something to take less than half a year.”
"You are indeed clever." Chullier sighed helplessly. "Yes, it will take me at least six months to recover. This is not something that can be recovered in a short time; I need more time to recuperate."
"So, what are your plans next?"
“Remember that twisted monster at our gate? It was being tormented by that awful place, living like it was in hell every day. I think it’s time we freed it.” He looked at Natara and said, “See those puppets at the gate? That’ll be an invincible army. They’ll bring that guy’s magic core over. What do you think?”
“If it were really possible, I would be happy to. Monsters of that level have a lot of magic power, which could greatly improve the quality of medicine.” Natara stood up. “But I still need magic power, so I will try my best to collect some. This period is difficult, and I hope we can all hold on.”
......
If a place is starting to show signs of chaos on the surface, then there must be a lot of turmoil happening behind the scenes.
In reality, chaos is only minutes away. While both sides are still assessing the situation, this brief peace could crumble at any moment. No, it might not even take a few minutes; chaos will erupt very soon. Frankly, chaos is just one step away.
Remember Spider-Man and those two cats? Those two cats followed him to chase the mouse. And by some unbelievable coincidence, the two groups bumped into each other.
The Shadow and the two cats stared at each other, just staring blankly.
They all came here because they were interested in the rats in this sewer. It's incredibly lucky they bumped into each other in this rather old-fashioned sewer.
Both sides were actually searching for each other. For Xie Ying, only by killing these two cats could she achieve true freedom. And these two cats were determined to send her back to the coffin at all costs.
The others had somewhat strange expressions, after all, they were all acquaintances in a sense. They had all met each other before, and their relationship wasn't even exactly hostile. While they were still in a daze, let's briefly sort out the relationships among these people. First, Nameless and Chrison were on good terms, and Little Spider also had a good relationship with the two Red Devils.
The two cats were enemies to Xie Ying, but the two red demons had actually met them before. They had even fed the white one when they were in the room.
Aside from the two sullen individuals, the relationships between the other people weren't actually that bad. In fact, if they had come to a restaurant to eat, they would have simply added a few more chairs and eaten together.
But now, at the eye of the storm, just a second before both sides were about to attack, the little spider used its web to immobilize the two cats. Meanwhile, Yan and Wuming each held down Xie Ying's shoulders to calm her down.
After all, we're in the city's sewers, and nobody wants to get covered in filth.
Furthermore, Shadow is going to lie low here, and Spider-Man is going to live here for a while. If they really dismantle their sewers, well, all those scheming bastards on both sides should just get lost.
In a short time, they figured these things out, so the first thing they had to do was tie up the guys on both sides.
The two cats were truly surprised by how incredibly strong the little spider's web was; even in human form, they couldn't break free.
Equally astonished was Xie Ying, who was also tied up to prevent him from moving around. After several hours of work, the three of them finally calmed down and lay down side by side on a net nearby.
This way, other people will have the opportunity to sit down together and have a proper chat.
But there's really not much to say; their relationship is basically just that they avoid conflict when they meet. If there's any deeper connection, then there really isn't.
Long, long afterward, Wuming broke the silence.
"Is the demon in your area?" Nameless looked at the little spider and said softly, "After that, I heard that the city has calmed down."
"Demon? You mean Lori?" The little spider hesitated for a moment. He didn't know that Lori had been kidnapped. He thought she was still in the room, so he nodded.
Actually, he wanted to tell a slight lie, since having a demon in his group would inevitably cause trouble, and it would certainly be troublesome to handle. To avoid such trouble, he shouldn't admit that he had a demon in his team.
But inexplicably, he felt he shouldn't tell Wuming such a lie. This guy had saved Lori, and in a sense, he had the right to know if Lori was alright now.
At least now the child is quite happy every day, acting as a mascot in the carriage every day since leaving that city.
So he nodded, indicating that the child was alright.
After that, they chatted about random things, asking each other about their plans and the future. Seeing how easily he had subdued Xie Ying, Yan immediately realized just what kind of monster this little spider was. From the beginning, he had been trying to get him involved in his great cause of rebelling against the church.
This left Twelve empty, and this guy sat in the back between the two cat-turned-beings and the evil shadow, ready to block them before they started fighting.
Twelve was only somewhat hostile towards that priest, and his relationship with the little spider was merely one of shared misery among monsters. He didn't dislike the monster; in fact, one could say he found it strangely pleasing to the eye.
He didn't want to clash with the spider. He didn't have anything he absolutely needed to do, and he wasn't exactly a battle maniac. Now that he had been given abilities similar to a demon, he just wanted to find a relatively safe place to catch his breath.
Having had their originally short lifespan extended, naturally, they'd think about how to survive. After all, being alive is always good; as long as you're alive, there's always a possibility.
So I don't want to have a conflict now, because conflict is bad for everyone.
"You guys can probably read the air, right?" Twelve glanced at the menacing Darkness, then at the mocking Shadow: "If you really want to fight, just find a secluded place and settle it to the death. Nobody will stop you."
That's really true. If these guys were fighting in some chaotic area, nobody would really care. The consensus would probably be to set up a simple shelter nearby and watch the fight.
After they finish fighting, regardless of who lives or dies, they can celebrate the end of the world.
This whole mess has made me lose all interest in chasing the rats, but that doesn't mean the rats will disappear completely.
Instead, those who were watching them returned—or rather, it wasn't so much watching as an advance team of rats had already set up camp nearby, standing and watching them. A rustling sound came from the shadows, and who knew what filthy creatures were hiding there.
Or perhaps, it's actually quite clean inside; they're just one step away from entering a kingdom—a kingdom truly dwelling in darkness.
