Chapter Fifteen
The little spider moved quickly outside the house, following the guy that Ark considered dangerous.
He seemed to realize he was being followed, and he moved rather erratically through the street.
Later on, he even started running.
The little spider was forced to move at an even faster speed to keep up with him, and had to try its best to make as little noise as possible.
He can only prevent himself from being seen by the eyes, but that doesn't mean he won't be detected by other means.
Just like how I often sense the location of someone's head by their heartbeat and body temperature, this guy might have a similar ability.
Suddenly, the little spider slowly stopped and fell over onto a roof that no one would notice.
Because that guy suddenly stopped, not far away.
The little spider wasn't sure if he had seen him. He was looking around.
He was going in circles, the little spider was so sure of it. The layout of the buildings here wasn't complicated, so he would be discovered soon enough that he was circling around.
He didn't want others to know where he lived, just as he concealed his identity with bandages and robes.
Although the guy who attacked him on the path last time was also a robed figure, Spider-Man knew they weren't the same person. While the previous one was strange, he could sense magic or something else within him.
And this guy himself couldn't feel anything.
He simply couldn't feel anything at all. Apart from the heartbeat, there were so many other signs of life that he couldn't detect.
This thing is either not a living person, but it doesn't seem like a demon either. Even demons have their own unique aura. It's extremely rare to find someone like him who can't sense anything about it.
Or perhaps its bandages bear runes that conceal its identity.
Even if a spell is used, the traces left by the spell should be noticeable, but the little spider didn't notice any of that.
There was no trace whatsoever, which is quite strange. After all, anyone who exists in this world leaves their own mark. These marks are difficult to completely erase and are proof that a person is truly alive.
This guy is unusual in so many ways that even someone as carefree as Spider-Man thinks he might be a troublesome creature.
But when the little spider came out from under the eaves, it found that the guy had disappeared.
The little spider stared blankly at the spot where he had been standing. He stood on the roof and looked around.
That shouldn't be the case. No matter how fast this thing is, it shouldn't be completely undetectable when it leaves. How did it manage to get away?
The little spider thinker couldn't come up with a suitable explanation for a long time.
Perhaps that creature can traverse space, but such a ridiculous ability shouldn't be present here. And even if it did possess such a power, it could have easily shaken off all pursuers from the start. There's absolutely no need to go through all this trouble of leading it in circles.
The little spider came down from under the house and went to the spot where it had been before.
It slowly closed its eyes and remained motionless in the spot.
The surrounding environment appeared in its mind, and in this strange realm, it sensed the anomalies around it.
It really did disappear in an instant right before my eyes.
It left no trace whatsoever, not even the slightest trace.
It was still snowing heavily, but the footprints on the ground stopped there.
The little spider's hairy forehead split open, revealing a secondary eye that looked like a small bean.
When this eye grows, the surrounding environment begins to appear in front of you in a clearer way.
really.
The little spider slowly opened its eyes and fell into thought.
The space showed signs of being distorted; this guy had the ability to tear through space and teleport.
But what method did it use to achieve spatial movement?
The little spider pondered for a while but couldn't come up with an answer.
Although this is a rare ability, it has seen quite a few in its memory. The reason it can't confirm it isn't because it doesn't know the conditions required, but because almost all the conditions are met here; almost any spatial movement ability can be used here.
Even though we're still in the snow, the surrounding elements are quite chaotic due to the heavy snowfall. Using any spells at this time would be difficult.
Thinking this, the little spider deactivated its invisibility. Its invisibility was due to the characters Denos had drawn on its body. It was a consumable item, so it should be used sparingly.
Incidentally, it also retracted the eye that had been floating in the air, so the thing that had been tracking it naturally didn't notice anything either. They lost track of it, which was embarrassing, but the outcome was irreversible.
But at that moment, it suddenly sensed the presence of a living person.
The little spider paused for a moment, then realized that no one should be going out at this time.
That place isn't far from here; that guy might only be able to teleport short distances.
Crison accelerated in that direction; it had its only chance now, and it had to seize it to find...
This was what the little spider was thinking before it accidentally wandered into a very open space.
Because that little girl was squatting in a small corner of this area, hugging her legs with both hands, motionless, exhaling long breaths in the cold air. Long white puffs of steam rose into the air.
child?
Chrisson was stunned, clearly not quite understanding.
There's no way that guy could turn into a child; it can only be because there's something wrong with his senses.
But this child shouldn't be here; it's in the snow now. It should be in a safe area.
Children are as precious as crops, therefore there must be a place for children to live within the safe zone. Parents are not responsible for raising their own children; their responsibility for raising children begins at the age of twelve.
Because children live in a safe zone until they are twelve years old, and only when they are able to survive outside with some semblance of normalcy are they sent to their parents. Before that, they are raised by the church.
However, there's a high probability that the parents will have died during this period, so the child will likely continue to be raised by the church after the age of twelve, until they are able to become independent.
Is this child twelve years old?
Suddenly, the little spider felt sorry for the child.
Perhaps for the past twelve years it had been hoping to see its parents after it came out. But after it came out, it learned that its parents had already died.
The little spider thought to itself, feeling a pang of pity for the poor child.
Because a river of sorrow seemed to flow through her.
Suddenly, the little spider noticed that the child was wearing just an ordinary robe, which probably didn't offer any protection against the cold.
She must be freezing. The little spider thought to itself that even it was only thanks to the spider web it had created with magic that it was able to keep from freezing to death.
It roughly knew that its priority should be finding the unidentified creature and learning about its origins. But now, the little spider suddenly felt that perhaps it should be a little more flexible. At least for now, it should get the child to a safe place.
If I remember correctly, if a child doesn't find their parents after being released, they should be placed in the care of the church.
Thinking this, the little spider slowly moved over.
When it got close to her, about ten meters away, it deliberately made some noise to get the child's attention.
The child turned his head and saw Chrison making a ridiculous gesture in front of him, baring his teeth and claws.
Krizon was supposed to be a very scary monster, and if a child saw it, their first reaction would definitely be to scream.
But the way this monster was wriggling around was really funny, and it didn't look dangerous at all.
So after the child was initially startled, Lolo laughed.
She looks like such a cute child, the little spider thought. She was probably about 1.2 or 1.3 meters tall, and even when she stood up, she was still much shorter than an adult. She looked completely undeveloped, so tiny.
What's a bit strange, though, is the white hair, snow-white hair. Even the robe can't contain it; it cascades down from both sides like a river.
She shifted her position slightly and looked at the little spider.
She still seemed a little uneasy, which was understandable. No matter what, Chris was still a somewhat frightening monster. Not slapping such a monster in the face was already a sign of friendliness.
So the little spider is already used to this kind of reaction.
"Um, don't be afraid, I won't hurt you," the little spider said as clearly as possible, then stood up in front of her like a mole cricket, showing her his body from side to side.
This is to prove that they are safe and are not carrying anything dangerous.
It seems that humans use this method to indicate their safety? I'm not sure, but since humans do this, it's always good to learn from them.
The little spider envied humans, even though it wasn't human itself. It never dreamed of becoming human; it just hoped that humans were doing well. Because they were all good people, and good people shouldn't encounter anything sad.
However, this guy just chuckled when he saw it like that.
Chrison paused, then realized the man was looking at him with such gentle eyes. It was so comforting, a kindness that came from the bottom of his heart. It didn't change because of how others perceived it.
"This is a good kid," the little spider confirmed. Although it didn't know who it was, the little spider believed that while it couldn't tell who was bad, it could still distinguish good from bad. Such good people were rare, especially in this world. They were as rare as gems.
She suddenly walked over, startling Chrisson, who instinctively stepped back. But when he realized there was a stone wall behind him, the child was already only about a meter away.
She reached into her pocket and took out a small handful of candy.
"Do you want some?" She looked at the little spider, paused, and said, "I think this tastes delicious. It's sweet. Are you looking for something to eat?"
The little spider paused, realizing it had been misunderstood.
Does my being here now seem like I'm looking for a place to eat because I'm hungry?
I don't know, but I should probably explain it to myself now.
"Um, don't get me wrong, I'm not hungry." The little spider scratched its head. "Besides, I don't need to eat candy. I've already eaten something, so I'm not hungry now."
"Really?" The little girl paused, hesitated, and wanted to withdraw her hand. But perhaps she felt it would be impolite to do so.
“But this candy looks familiar.” The little spider paused, looking at the candy in her hand: “This looks like the candy Ark sells.”
"Who is that? Is he a friend of mine? I'm traveling with him now." The little spider paused, then suddenly realized that if the child wasn't going to church, traveling with his carriage would be a good option.
Because he had rarely met anyone like this, and the child's kindness seemed genuine. He had never seen a child like this before, so Chris felt he should help the child.
"Um, you now..." The little spider hadn't finished speaking when his voice suddenly stopped.
Because Karl was in the corner of the field of vision.
This time, even without Ark, he could feel the malice emanating from him, along with an overwhelming pressure.
Carl slowly flipped through the book in his hands, and the little spider sensed the danger. White spider webs sprayed from its appendages, sticking to the wall and forming a dense, intricate web.
He instantly assumed a defensive stance. Even so, he was still sent flying as the rocks in front of him crumbled. The spiderwebs only slightly hindered his momentum, preventing him from crashing to the ground too hard.
Krisen had no idea what had just happened. Everything happened too fast. He was sent flying without even a chance to resist and almost lost his ability to fight back.
He forced himself to lift his head, realizing he was once again trapped in the corner formed between the houses. This was a place where he couldn't avoid a straight-line area-of-effect attack.
Karl had already raised the scripture in his hand and was softly reciting something in the air.
"This is bad. I might die if this continues," the little spider thought. It clenched its hideous teeth and pressed its hand against a mark on its body.
If I stay hidden any longer, I might die here.
"Hey! Carl, don't do that, it's my friend." Suddenly, the child who had just offered it candy stood between them, crying out helplessly.
She had only just realized what had happened. Because she didn't know who to help, neither Carl nor Chrison.
So I had no choice but to stand in the middle.
