Chapter 31 Desert Ruins - 5 The beacon can be launched...
Beacons can transmit specific radio signals, and in addition to exchanging signals, they are also used in scientific research to identify and track objects.
"Do you know where it's sending the signal?" Lu Yi asked Anderson, frowning.
“It has a self-destruct program; it explodes as soon as I get close to it,” Anderson said, pulling a small piece of plastic from his leather jacket pocket.
The giant, burning, poisonous figure below became their light source. In the flickering firelight, Lu Yi and Tang Bufan both saw traces of white markings on the plastic fragments.
“The rest of the parts were destroyed. Only this fragment still shows a little bit of the organization’s logo,” Anderson said. “But I’ve compared it in the Western Federation’s database, and none of them match.”
In other words, the resistance faction conducting genetic experiments here is an underground organization that has not yet been discovered.
Lu's expression darkened slightly, and he pressed him for an answer: "When did it explode?"
Two days ago.
Lu Yi breathed a slight sigh of relief. He and Tang Bufan had only approached the mothership last night, so even if the beacon had a monitoring function, it hadn't captured them on camera.
Subconsciously, Lu Yi didn't want Tang Bufan to be discovered.
The two were talking, while Tang Bufan stared intently at the shards in Anderson's hand in the firelight, his heart pounding.
The mark was still there… Tang Bufan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he steadied himself, and with an unchanged expression, he reached out to Anderson: “Can I take a look?”
"No." Anderson smiled and grabbed the fragment, pulling it back into his hand. He appeared nonchalant, but a hint of something deeper flashed in his silver eyes as he looked at Tang Bufan: "What, is this the symbol of your organization?"
As a wanted member of the "resistance faction," Tang Bufan naturally knew that the resistance faction was a group name, which included many organizations, large and small, as well as unorganized humans who fought against the orcs on their own.
Tang Bufan's wanted poster states that he is an unorganized individual.
“You’ve seen my file, you know I don’t belong to any organization.” Tang Bufan thought for a moment, then looked down and pulled a small, thumb-sized folding military knife from his waist pouch, handing it to Anderson: “Here, I’ll trade you this.”
Anderson laughed: "You're trying to fool me again. Do you think I'm a three-year-old? What kind of junk do you think you can trade with me?"
“Your fragments are just broken things too.” Tang Bufan held the mini military knife in his hand seriously: “My military knife may be small, but it might save my life in a critical moment in the future.”
Lu Yi put his arm around him, his eyes fixed on Tang Bufan with a slightly deep look, realizing that he really wanted that beacon fragment.
After spending these days together, Lu Yi knew better than anyone that Tang Bufan was a person with secrets. He was extremely ignorant of the world, his height was below the average for human men, and he had a particularly fresh and elegant body odor... Many children of high-ranking officials in the underground city didn't smell as clean as Tang Bufan.
Besides genetic influences, a person's scent is also affected by their environment. Just like fruit grown on the ground can never be as fragrant as fruit grown in an underground city, Tang Bufan's scent tells others, to some extent, that he was born and raised in a particularly clean world.
Lu Yi believed that Anderson had also noticed that Tang Bufan was "abnormal".
“Give it to him.” Lu Yi said calmly, looking at Anderson: “Consider it a favor I owe you.”
Tang Bufan looked at Lu Yi in surprise, while Anderson raised his eyebrows.
"Oh?" Anderson narrowed his eyes and said sarcastically, "Little Louis, your favor is quite valuable... Aren't you afraid I'll make some strange requests of you?"
"No, thank you." Tang Bufan immediately stopped the two from making the deal. He couldn't let Lu Yi suffer because of him. Although he was very concerned about the fragment, he still pulled Lu Yi away: "Let's go to the hangar quickly. Didn't you want to see the fighter jets?"
"Hey, don't go." Anderson saw that he had changed his mind, thought for a moment, and then approached Tang Bufan with a grin, grabbed his hand and put the beacon fragment in his hand. "Look at you two being so sweet. Consider this fragment a gift for you, my wife."
"Madam?" Tang Bufan frowned, looking at him strangely. "Why are you calling me that?"
"To let you get used to it in advance," Anderson said meaningfully.
Lu Yi and Tang Bufan both understood his meaning. They looked at each other, their expressions becoming somewhat strange, and they both thought of the kiss from the night before.
Oh my god, how embarrassing.
Tang Bufan hesitated for a moment, but still wanted the beacon fragment, so he carefully put it into his waist pouch.
He tossed the folding military knife to Anderson: "Here, take the knife."
By bartering, Tang Bufan didn't want to owe Anderson anything.
Anderson casually took it, looked at the tiny military knife that was tiny to him, and chuckled.
Lu Yi put his arm around Tang Bufan and returned to the stairwell, continuing down the stairs, with Anderson following behind them.
Considering that there might be other dangers in the mothership ruins, the two let him follow them.
The three of them reached the bottom of the mothership without incident and found nothing unusual. It seems that there weren't many of those huge and strange mutated poisonous humans, perhaps only one.
The enormous hangar did indeed contain several fighter jets, but they had all slid to the bottom due to the mothership's crash and were piled up in that sloping corner.
Lu Yi's eyes lit up, and he immediately carried Tang Bufan over to a two-seater fighter jet that wasn't tilting too badly, where they sat down. Anderson, meanwhile, enthusiastically found a single-seater abandoned fighter jet nearby.
Both orcs began testing the fighter jets.
Tang Bufan had been somewhat absent-minded the whole way, and it wasn't until he was seated in the fighter jet that he curiously looked at Lu Yi from behind.
"Can you fly a fighter jet?" Tang Bufan asked Lu Yi from the back seat. Perhaps because he didn't know how, he looked at these two beastmen like little kids sitting in a roadside rocking horse, only missing the machine starting to sing, "What's your dad's dad called~"
“I learned it in the simulator.” Lu Yi fumbled to open the individual button covers.
"If it really starts, don't rush in..."
The machine suddenly started, and the complex button panel lit up. Then, two virtual screens appeared in front of Lu Yi and Tang Bufan respectively.
"..." Tang Bufan had no idea how to control it. He was only afraid of the danger and wondered if it would be too late for him to go down now.
"Great, it's nuclear-powered." Lu Yi smiled as he looked at the virtual screen, tapping lightly with his finger. "It's a pity it's an early nuclear battery, and another thousand years have passed..."
His words abruptly stopped, and his expression changed drastically. Out of the corner of Tang Bufan's eye, he saw Lu Yi, who was sitting in front of him, suddenly swell up. Before he could even look up, Lu Yi scooped him up from the back seat, and the two of them leaped high into the air. Tang Bufan's heart skipped a beat.
"Anderson! Run!" Lu Yi roared, grabbing Tang Bufan with one arm and protecting him in his arms.
With a deafening "BOOM!", a massive shockwave blasted the two men flying through the air. Tang Bufan was dazed, while Lu Yi regained his balance in mid-air and used the shockwave behind him to land some distance away.
Fortunately, the hangar was the size of several football fields. Lu Yi then leaped forward with Tang Bufan, dodging the second explosion. He looked back anxiously in the blast wave, and only breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the tall, thin figure with silver hair.
Tang Bufan frowned as he lay in Lu Yi's arms. Lu Yi's body was strong and resistant to shock after his beast transformation, but Tang Bufan was not. Even though Lu Yi protected him well, he still felt a dull pain in his internal organs from the shockwave and the two jumps and falls.
"Another self-destruction." Anderson spat out dust as he walked out of the smoke, cursing as he went, "Don't let me catch that bastard who programmed it!"
"Luckily, the system takes time to process, otherwise we would be done for." Lu Yi looked at the mess in the corner of the hangar, his face grim: "That resistance faction knew we would come looking for fighter jets; it was our oversight."
After he finished speaking, he looked down at Tang Bufan and noticed that Tang Bufan was frowning and looked unwell. He immediately became anxious.
"Teacher! Are you alright?!"
"I'm fine..." Tang Bufan was in great pain and tried to breathe out: "I'm not injured, it's just... cough cough, I was shaken a few times."
"Oh ho, is he going to die?" Anderson gloated as he approached Tang Bufan, whose face was ashen and looked like a corpse. He then excitedly ordered Lu Yi, "Little Louis, mark him quickly! He can still be saved if we try to save him now!"
"..." Lu Yi's expression was also not good, his eyes were full of hesitation and struggle.
Tang Bufan rolled his eyes, glared at Anderson standing above him, and stammered out three words: "...He won't die."
Anderson stared at Tang Bufan closely again and realized that he seemed to be immortal, which made him feel a pang of regret.
“Little Louis, you need to report this to the Federation.” Anderson’s expression became slightly more serious: “The protesters causing trouble here are not simple.”
The ability to mutate and restore the minds of poison-people alone was enough to have a huge impact on the Western Federation. Even the high-level orcs had some difficulty dealing with the mutated poison-people, let alone the low-level orcs and sub-orcs in the Federation.
Lu Yi felt a slight sense of relief when he saw Tang Bufan slowly recovering from the shock. He frowned and looked at Anderson: "Report."
“I was secretly released by your brother, and you want me to report this?” Anderson seemed to have heard a joke: “Even if you go back, I will never go back.”
If he goes back, he'll just be locked up in a mental hospital again.
Lu sighed and then said, "I'll go up and report."
Now that they are so deep underground, even Evelyn, a high-level AI, cannot transmit signals to the outside world.
After Lu Yi finished speaking, he squatted down and let Tang Bufan climb onto his back. He felt very guilty. If he hadn't insisted on seeing the warplane from a thousand years ago, Tang Bufan wouldn't have been hit by the explosion.
"Teacher, I'll carry you up," Lu Yi said softly, supporting Tang Bufan's rather thin buttocks with her hands.
"Okay." Tang Bufan lay on his broad back, closing his eyes uncomfortably.
He gets sleepy whenever he feels unwell.
Lu Yi steadily carried him on his back, then looked at Anderson beside him: "You protect the teacher from behind."
Anderson sneered, "Young Master, have you forgotten that I'm here to kill you?"
“I can only report to the Federation on what’s happening here if I successfully get my teacher up there.” Lu Yi looked at him seriously: “If there really is unrest, your father and your brother will both have to go to the battlefield.”
Anderson's expression changed, but Lu Yi knew that he still cared about his family and denied that he would take the initiative to ask him to report this matter to the Federation.
Anderson clicked his tongue and then impatiently muttered, "You're getting less and less lovable as you get older."
Lu Yi understood that he had agreed, so he carried Tang Bufan back to the stairwell and began to climb up.
When the three returned to the ground, Tang Bufan was already asleep. Lu Yi gently placed him on the iron bunk bed and helped him draw the curtains, making the RV very dark.
In the darkness, Lu Yi gently patted Tang Bufan's head before quietly getting out of the car. Anderson was squatting by the pool drinking water. Lu Yi glanced at him, then turned on his bracelet and walked away.
“Don’t film me on video,” Anderson yelled at him.
"I know." Lu Yi raised his hand with his back to him and walked behind a sand dune.
Evelyn has been activated.
"Hello, Louis."
Lu Yi raised his arm, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Contact Angus."
"Message, voice, or video?"
"video."
"Okay, please wait. We are sending a video call invitation to Admiral Angus... Video call connected."
The virtual screen floating in the air flashed, and a middle-aged military officer in his fifties with silver hair and silver eyes appeared on the screen.
