Chapter Thirty-Two
01.
This happened before Yuta Egoku enrolled in school, and it also happened when Angela Yu came to Tokyo Jujutsu High School to raise her first "little pet".
02.
"Get the hell out of here," Xiao Lan said.
"Bring your beloved little pet."
Xiao Lan seemed genuinely angry. Yu Shaohan swallowed hard, after all, even the word "please" had slipped out.
"But don't you really think she's cute?" Yu Shaohan swallowed, trying to argue a little more. "She's so cute—look! Her eight beautiful legs, her handsome, smooth lines, her yellow and black stripes..."
"I don't think so." Xiao Lan looked at her expressionlessly. "Get lost."
"Are you worried she might have a virus? No, no. She's in this glass enclosure, and as long as you don't move her, she won't get out. She's a very, very good girl. Just leave her in your dorm room, and you only need to feed her a little bit of bugs every day—right? This child is easy to take care of, isn't she?"
"Easy to raise my ass!" Xiao Lan roared in fury. She flung open the door and kicked Yu Shaohan in the backside—not drawing her Instantaneous Sword was her last act of mercy. She slammed the door shut with a bang. "For your worthless pet, you actually made me catch bugs for her every day? Ha? What a joke! Take your good child and get as far away as you can!"
03.
...I was kicked out.
Yu Shaohan lowered her head, staring at the little spider inside the glass case. "Alright," she shrugged, "Since Xiao Lan won't agree to adopt you while I'm on a mission, shall we look for someone else...?"
Maki closed the door expressionlessly: "I don't want to."
Yu Shaohan: "..."
Dog Curly shook his head like a rattle: "Wooden fish flower, wooden fish flower."
Yu Shaohan: "..."
Panda carefully considered his words before speaking: "You know, Yu Shaohan. I'm just a panda; I can't possibly raise a spider properly."
Yu Shaohan: "..."
There are five students in the first year of the Spellcasting Academy. Apart from Yu Shaohan, the owner of the little spider Bai Bai, there are four other students. Zero of them want to help Yu Shaohan take care of the spider temporarily.
Having failed to persuade the other students, Yu Shaohan returned to Xiao Lan's dormitory. She took a deep breath, kicked open the door, and bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle, clutching her beloved Bai Bai: "I really have to rely on you, Xiao Lan! Please look after Bai Bai for me for now! This mission only takes a week at most, just one week—please, just one week, okay?"
04.
Xiao Lan was sitting at the table writing something. Upon hearing this, he didn't even look up, only uttering a single word: "Get lost."
"Please! Xiao Lan! I know you're afraid of bugs, but just for a week, okay? Even less than a week, just hang in there for a week. I'll treat you to something delicious when you get back."
"No!" Xiao Lan snapped. She jumped up from her chair and summoned her Instant Sword. "Eat my ass! Huh? Can't you understand me? I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to! There are so many people here, are you just determined to mess with me?"
"They are all unwilling."
"So I'll agree?"
If you beg and plead a little, there's a good chance they'll agree. Yu Shaohan thought to herself.
But of course, she couldn't say such things out loud. If she did, Xiao Lan would chop her into a pulp with his Instantaneous Sword, believe it or not.
Yu Shaohan and Xiao Lan had been friends for many years, and she knew best which tricks could soften Xiao Lan's heart. "But...but..." Yu Shaohan's voice trailed off, and she stared at the ground with a pitiful look on her face, "After all, she's in a glass case, and she won't run out if you don't touch her...This is the first little pet I've ever kept here..."
Xiao Lan stared at Yu Shaohan, while Yu Shaohan stared at her toes.
"Alright," Xiao Lan sighed.
Yu Shaohan was secretly delighted. She looked up and wiped away the tears she had forced out of her eyes: "You agree to help me look after Bai Bai?"
Xiao Lan chuckled twice: "This is still because you're unwilling."
"But I can help you contact Teacher Wu. Teacher Wu shouldn't be afraid of these little things, right? You can go and ask Teacher Wu if he's willing to help you."
05.
Yu Shaohan: "..."
Finally, Bai Bai has a temporary adopter. Wu Tiao Wu, who was contacted by Xiao Lan, waved his hand and confidently declared that he would take care of it—congratulations, congratulations!
