Chapter Ten
-Yu Shaohan-
Xiao Lan and I sat awkwardly on the sofa, with Yi Gu You Tai between us. Miss Tear Mole skillfully stubbed out her cigarette and threw it in the trash can, then poured us each a cup of tea.
"Thank you." I accepted the tea with both hands.
...I have never been able to resist pretty girls.
"Wu's student? First year?" The girl with the beauty mark sat back down in her chair. "Are you hurt?"
Xiao Lan started shaking his head vigorously. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention to me, I secretly gave Xiao Lan a accusing look: You know her?
Why didn't you introduce me to such a beautiful girl at school?! I had no idea—I had no idea!
My longtime best friend, Xiao Lan, saw right through my thoughts. She gave me a somewhat speechless look: First, I didn't know; second, why should I tell you? And finally, Sect Leader, your disciple is Tong, your disciple is Tong—
I have no doubt that if there weren't outsiders present, Xiao Lan would have been willing to give me some face; otherwise, she would have definitely shouted it out. Bullshit! I gestured to her with my eyes, "I'm asexual, you're the one who's gay. Everyone appreciates beauty; I just like hanging out with pretty girls, so what?"
Although the girl with the beauty mark under her eye had dark circles under her eyes, clearly indicating she hadn't had a good rest, her skin still looked amazing, and even her furrowed brows couldn't hide her well-proportioned features...
Xiao Lan twitched her lips, demonstrating her disdain for me through her actions. I didn't care at all. So what? So what? It's okay to hang out with pretty girls. I can't possibly stay in the courtyard all day like you, either practicing swordsmanship or reading novels.
To our surprise, the person who recognized the school doctor in front of us was neither Xiao Lan nor me, but Yi Gu You Tai, who had just transferred to our class today.
“Miss Ieiri…” Yuta Otsukoshi touched the hair beside his ear somewhat embarrassedly, “Um… thank you for treating me last time.”
"It's nothing," Miss Ieiri waved her hand casually.
I stared at Yuta Ekiku in shock, a look on my face as if to say, "Why did you betray our revolutionary friendship?" Xiao Lan, standing to the far side, had lost all her luster in her eyes. She covered her face, as if every cell in her body was desperately trying to act as if she didn't recognize me—whatever.
“This is Miss Iriko.” Finally noticing my gaze, Yuuta Otsuko introduced her to us. “She’s a very skilled doctor. As for the two who came with me, the one with the blue highlights is…”
“Yu Shaohan.” Noticing the slightly hesitant look on Yi Gu You Tai’s face when he mentioned our names, I continued, “The one next to her with the gradient hair is Xiao Lan. We are also first-year students at the Spellcasting Academy—but we enrolled about two weeks earlier than Yi Gu You Tai.”
"Oh." Shoko Ieiri nodded. "You two are the two rather strange transfer students that Satoru mentioned?"
"What?" I scoffed. "Strange?"
"It's alright." Xiao Lan leaned back. "I think it's alright—actually, I think Teacher Wu is the strange one."
Shoko Ieiri agreed and didn't complain about Xiao Lan's strange way of addressing Satoru Gojo: "Indeed, everyone has different opinions on this kind of thing."
"Anyway, if you get injured in the future, you can come here to find me. This is the infirmary, and I am the school doctor of Tokyo Jujutsu High School."
Yi Gu You Tai whispered to us, "Miss Ieiri's medical skills are excellent; she possesses a special reversal technique."
"Reversal spell?"
"I don't really understand it either, it's just a kind of magical power. In an instant, it can heal almost any wound."
Xiao Lan blinked, and I swear I saw an "I see" look in her eyes. Before I could even react, she instantly appeared behind me, pulled me up, and shoved me towards Miss Shoko. Damn it! I'm sure she even used the Windwalking Technique the instant she moved from the sofa behind me!
"Could you please take a look at her?" Xiao Lan pointed to my left eye. "She can't see with her left eye, and she's not in good health."
“What do you mean by ‘can’t see’?” I retorted instinctively. “It’s just nearsightedness, nearsightedness—okay, nearsightedness.”
Shoko Ieiri raised an eyebrow and walked over decisively: "Let me see."
Her hand gently rested on my face, and I could even smell the faint scent of disinfectant on her hand. I noticed her gaze gradually become serious, and she lowered her hand with some regret: "I'm sorry."
The implication was that she couldn't do anything about my bad eyes and bad body.
"It's nothing." I shook my head, not too surprised, after all, I was used to these things. "It's something I was born with, it can't be cured." I comforted myself, "Back in my hometown... I mean, many great doctors can't cure it."
Xiao Lan looked somewhat regretful. I winked at her twice, signaling her not to worry.
—After all, I'm used to it.
-
Today is just another ordinary day.
I lay on the table, doodling on the notebook with a ballpoint pen. Xiao Lan and I became mission partners again, and after carrying out several missions in a row, the place that assigned us the task of removing the cursed spirit finally took pity on us and released the people, allowing Xiao Lan and me to go back to the college to rest for a few days.
Okay, time to rest, okay.
But why does rest mean going back to college for these boring classes?! Can these boring theoretical classes even be canceled? When exorcising a cursed spirit, does the spirit ask you how to calculate your own curse power?
The bell rang, silencing my inner grumbling. I finally snapped out of my reverie and looked at my poor notebook on my desk, now a mess of ballpoint pen scribbles. A twitch appeared on my lips; I knew I couldn't just sit there and do nothing. I slammed my hands on the desk, using the momentum to stand up nimbly and loudly, announcing in the classroom:
"Listen up! Starting today, I've decided to restart my plans!"
Only Xiao Lan and I were in the classroom; everyone else had gone on a mission. Xiao Lan was dozing off, her elbow propped on the desk, her head nodding slightly, seemingly fast asleep—she'd been engrossed in online novels these past few days, sacrificing all her sleep to reading on her phone. I startled her with a sudden loud noise, and she looked up sleepily, bleary-eyed: "Huh? What? Class is over?"
“I said,” I mercifully repeated what I had just said, “starting today, I will be restarting my project.”
"Oh...oh." Xiao Lan wasn't fully awake yet. She slammed her head back onto the table with a thud. "Which project are you talking about? Is it 'The Plan to Find and Save Friends Who Have Also Transmigrated'? Or 'Investigating the 108 Love-Hate Relationships Between Gojo Satoru and Xia Youjie (crossed out) Monkey Brother'? Or is it 'Shocking, Investigating What Conspiracy the Evil Monkey King Has'?"
"You remember that much more clearly than I think." I gave her a "good memory" look. "Since you're already prepared, I'll be blunt—adults make choices. I'm not an adult yet, so of course I want all three projects!"
"So, would you be willing to help me restart these three projects?"
Xiao Lan suddenly looked up. I blinked my big eyes at her, and thank goodness her eyes were finally open. "No—" she drawled, "please go and finish your dear project yourself, okay? Do you remember what happened last time we inquired about the relationship between Xia You and Teacher Wu?"
"So what if I got the cold shoulder from the principal's office?" I muttered. "It's no big deal!"
"Alright, then, Miss who decided to restart the project, please tell us your plan first. We can't just wander around aimlessly like headless chickens again, can we?"
“No plan.” I sat back in my chair, observing Xiao Lan’s expression shift from gloom to light rain with interest. “But I have a feeling!” I excitedly extended my left index finger, waving it from side to side, “This time we’ll definitely find out very quickly what happened between Gojou Satoru and the Monkey King!”
"You said the same thing last time." Xiao Lan shrugged, mimicking my tone from last time in a sarcastic tone, "I had a feeling~"
"I'm exhausted!" The classroom door was suddenly pushed open, and Xiao Lan's attention immediately shifted from her sarcastic remarks to the person who entered. "Yo, Maki," she greeted her, "Why are you back so late? I remember you and Yuta received the mission this morning?"
"Don't even mention it." Maki pulled out a chair and plopped down in it with an air of nonchalance. Behind her, Yuuta Otsukoku silently sat back down, not saying a word. Maki downed half a bottle of mineral water in one gulp: "You'd never guess what we encountered today!"
"What did you encounter?" I crossed my legs, feeling happy just looking at Maki's displeasure—it was her fault for being so rude to me at the beginning of the semester. "It couldn't have been a ghost, could it?"
Maki snorted coldly.
My eyes widened—Maki didn't deny it! "Did you really encounter a ghost?" I asked tentatively. Honestly, I really was just saying it offhand.
but……
Xiao Lan and I exchanged a glance, seeing the same thought in each other's eyes: A ghost? Could it be her?
“Tell me more about it, Maki,” Xiao Lan said. “Why did you say you saw a ghost? Didn’t you go with Teacher Wu? How could there be any demons daring to get close to you even with Teacher Wu there?” Perhaps sensing the tense atmosphere, Xiao Lan made a joke.
Maki glared at her: "Today's mission for Yuta and me will be led by Satoru. The mission location is an elementary school. Our mission is to remove the curse, rescue the missing children, and bring back their bodies if any children die."
"Huh?" Xiao Lan and I exclaimed in unison.
Maki's eyelids twitched, and she clicked her tongue in annoyance: "How come you guys are just like Otsu, so naively ridiculous?"
The nominated Yi Gu You Tai lowered his head even further.
"Although I don't know exactly what you meant by 'Yigu's naiveté is somewhat laughable,' I'm sure you've misunderstood what Xiao Lan and I meant." I shifted to a more comfortable position and continued listening to Maki's story. "The 'Ah' that Xiao Lan and I said was meant to express surprise—"
Xiao Lan tacitly followed up: "Should we bring the body back too?"
"Hey hey hey—?"
