Chapter 108: Just What the Heart Desires

Miss Jun didn't say anything.

With his tiny teeth, he gently bit through the bun that was as thin as a cicada's wing. He sucked the soup carefully and attentively, and then started to eat slowly.

Zhu Zan didn't say anything else and just lowered his head to eat his buns.

Whether they were silent or arguing, everything seemed natural between the two of them, without any weirdness or awkwardness.

Perhaps it was because they had experienced so many awkward and strange interactions on the way from the north to the capital, and now nothing could make them feel uncomfortable.

The noise on the street, the hawkers' cries, and the rising sun make the surroundings noisy and vibrant.

"That's enough." Zhu Zan frowned as he looked at Miss Jun and said, "It's a shame for a girl to eat so much."

Miss Jun put down her chopsticks and wiped the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief.

"You'll have more strength if you eat enough," she said, getting up and walking straight out.

Zhu Zan took the money and put it on the table, then picked up the medicine box.

"I'm full and have strength," he said, curling his lips, "and I still have strength to carry the medicine box."

Jiuling Hall was already open. A clerk was tidying up the medicine cabinet inside. Fang Jinxiu was sitting there looking at the account book as usual, looking peaceful.

"Are you back?" Fang Jinxiu looked up and asked.

Their tone was calm without any worry, as if they were just back from shopping and having fun.

"Miss and aunt, have you eaten?" Liu'er jumped out from behind and asked.

"I've eaten." Miss Jun said.

Chen Qi also came out upon hearing the sound.

"How is it?" he asked, somewhat uneasily.

Finally someone with normal reactions.

Zhu Zan smiled.

"Look at your character." He looked at Miss Jun and said, "You are the only one who is worried about you."

"There's nothing to worry about." Fang Jinxiu said, "Since I entered the capital..."

Here she paused again.

"No, ever since she came to our house, there has never been a moment where we don't have to worry. We've gotten used to it."

Miss Jun laughed.

Zhu Zan sneered and said nothing.

"How's the matter?" Chen Qi asked again.

"It's okay, Prince Huai is fine." Miss Jun said, with a smile on her face when she thought of the child.

She had worried that Jiuqi would be devastated by her departure a year ago, but now he seemed to be in good spirits and becoming more sensible. She was surprised and relieved to see him speaking calmly and modestly to Duke Cheng.

This may be due to Jiuqi's natural intelligence, but more importantly, it is due to his acquired education.

That Mr. Gu really took good care in educating Jiuqi. He did not let him be humbled by his confinement, nor was he arrogant because he was once a prince. He let Jiuqi enjoy the joy of life in his unfortunate circumstances. He did not resent life, but loved and yearned for it.

Only with love can there be hope, and only with hope can one live happily and freely.

Maybe she should give Mr. Gu some money?

Thinking of this, he laughed again. A man with such ability would surely find a future and wealth anywhere. Why did he voluntarily stay in Prince Huai's mansion and live a life with no future? Could it be for the money?

He said he was an old friend of Master’s, so maybe we should let him meet Master’s wife and the others.

However, if he was an old friend of Master, then why would he come to teach Jiujiu? Master didn't owe anything to the royal family. If there was any connection, it was with me. So was Mr. Gu here to take care of Jiujiu because of me?

She originally thought that she was alone and would be gone after death. Her parents and master were dead, and no one in the world would remember her except Jiuqin and Jiuli. She didn't expect that Zhu Zan and Mr. Gu were still connected to her.

"What are you looking at? Don't look at me like that." Zhu Zan said with his eyes wide open.

Miss Jun chuckled.

This smart and sensitive guy.

Seeing her smile, Chen Qi also smiled bitterly.

"I just want to ask how this is going," he said.

Everyone knew that Prince Huai had set a trap for Duke Cheng this time. He originally wanted Duke Cheng to speak out against it in the court, but he didn't expect that Duke Cheng was even more powerful and actually went straight into Prince Huai's mansion to visit Prince Huai.

What would the emperor think? What would happen next?

"It's what it is."

Miss Jun and Zhu Zan said in unison.

After they finished speaking, the two looked at each other. Miss Jun smiled, while Zhu Zan snorted and turned his head away.

Chen Qi clapped his hands and breathed a sigh of relief.

"So you guys have discussed it." He said, "That's good."

There was no room for discussion. They only mentioned this matter from beginning to end. But what is there to discuss? Since it has been done, it has been done. There is nothing to be afraid of. We just have to deal with whatever comes.

Miss Jun smiled again, and Zhu Zan turned his head away again.

“Why did I do this?”

When Duke Cheng returned to the mansion, Zhu Zan and Miss Jun were both there.

Hearing their questions, Duke Cheng smiled.

"Why should I? When you hear that a child you know is sick, anyone would go and see him," he said gently.

But that child was no ordinary child.

"A child is a child. He is a child first, and then anything else." Duke Cheng said, looking at Miss Jun and smiling, "Miss Jun, I don't think you will find it troublesome."

Of course not.

Miss Jun shook her head.

Whether it was Duke Cheng repaying her for saving his life or he did this just because he cared about Jiuqin, she would not think it was a trouble.

"How is the child?" Mrs. Yu asked with some curiosity.

"That child is very good." Duke Cheng said gently, pausing for a moment, "Just like his father."

Miss Jun's eyes were sore.

"Then you guys go ahead and do your work. I'll be leaving now," she said. "If there's anything you need my help with, just let me know."

Without waiting for a response from Duke Cheng and the others, he bowed hastily and turned away.

Mrs. Yu was stunned.

"This child..." she said.

"She's like this, acting weird all day long." Zhu Zan snorted, "She must be crying again."

After saying that, he looked at Duke Cheng.

"Dad, what does His Majesty say? What happens next..." he asked.

Before he could finish his question, Madam Yu kicked him.

"You are so free, why don't you go back with Miss Jun?" she shouted unhappily.

Free?

Zhu Zan glared. He was free only when he sent her back. What was important now?

"I'm telling you, but you don't even want to listen." Mrs. Yu raised her eyebrows.

"Dad." Zhu Zan looked at the Duke aggrievedly.

Duke Cheng smiled.

"It's okay, go ahead, don't worry." He said, "It's only a matter of time before something happens, and it's not just because of this. Your Majesty has a knot in his heart, and I know how to resolve it, but."

He put his hands behind his back and smiled.

"But then I wouldn't be the Zhu Shan of today."

Miss Jun walked quickly, and after leaving Duke Cheng's Mansion, she could no longer hold back her tears.

Duke Chengguo said that his father was a good person.

My father is very good.

My father was a good man, so some people still remember him and not everyone has forgotten him.

This is justice. God is fair.

There will be justice.

My father's death would not have been in vain, and Jiuqin would not have been imprisoned for the rest of his life. Never.

She wiped away her tears, straightened her body and walked forward slowly.

She did not look back, so she did not see Zhu Zan following her reluctantly not far behind her, carrying a medicine box. Although he was reluctant, he did not keep too far away from her, walking through the crowd, neither getting close nor leaving her sight.
