Chapter 2: I had to leave

As the night deepened, the lights in Prince Huai's bedroom dimmed.

"Your Highness, it's time to go to bed." Miss Jun said as she looked at Prince Huai, who was sitting on the bed with his eyes still bulging.

Prince Huai uttered an "oh" and lay down, his eyes still wide open.

This is a clever perfunctory response.

She was still unaware of his trick.

"Your Highness, how about I tell you a story?" Miss Jun said as she sat down on the bed.

Prince Huai immediately moved inward.

"No," he said, his voice polite and distant. "No thanks."

Miss Jun looked at Prince Huai, and then at the palace maids and eunuchs who had left the bedroom.

"Your Highness, do you want to hear the story of fighting a tiger in the mountains?" She moved forward, looked at Prince Huai, raised her brows slightly, and spoke in a low voice.

This was the story that King Huai loved to hear himself tell the most.

I never get tired of listening to it, and I get excited every time I hear it.

I wonder if he will feel something for me after hearing this? Children are the most sensitive, but would this girl who tells the same story as his sister surprise him?

Miss Jun suppressed her nervousness and looked at Jiuqi.

Jiuqi, it’s my elder sister. It’s my elder sister Jiuling who is here to tell you a story again.

"No." Prince Huai said without any reaction, and at the same time he moved further inward, "Can you get up for a moment?"

He also said this, pointing to the quilt under which Miss Jun was sitting.

"You are pressing down on my quilt. I can't sleep well like this."

He did not cry or make a scene like other children to express his dissatisfaction. Even when he expressed his disgust, he was very polite, with the proud demeanor of a nobleman.

Children are sensitive. Since the day he became Prince Huai, he should have known the environment he was in. Coupled with the education he received from Princess Jiuli, he was able to maintain his last bit of dignity by being calm, just like Princess Jiuli.

A child is a child. He only sees what he sees. You are his sister, he is close to and dependent on you wholeheartedly. You are another person, even if you say something similar, he will not get even a little closer.

This brat, Miss Jun exhaled, thinking about saying something to attract him, when someone walked in from outside the door. She suddenly froze, and she knew it was Lu Yunqi without turning around.

"Your Highness is tired from playing today. Go to bed early so that you will have enough energy to continue playing tomorrow." She said, standing up from the bed and putting down the tent.

Lu Yunqi did not come in, but sat down outside.

He's been like this these days.

Since Princess Jiuli left, he did not leave and still stayed in Prince Huai's bedroom every night. He did not mind at all and did not avoid Miss Jun who was also in the room.

In his eyes, Miss Jun is just a doctor, or a suspect, or even a dead person.

Miss Jun was well aware of this and didn't mind it at all.

But today it feels different.

The lights in the bedroom were dim, and in the night, a line of sight always stayed on her.

And the vision is different from before.

This is of course because of what I said and did today.

Miss Jun lay down on the couch, feeling somewhat fortunate to have survived this crisis, but also feeling somewhat anxious.

It's been so long since that happened, how can he still remember what he did?

When she thought of the many women in that house who seemed to be a part of her, she felt disgusted again.

She turned over in bed and clenched her hands tightly under the quilt.

What does he want to do by doing such disgusting things and looking so disgusting?

The winter sunlight shone into the room, bright and warm. Several windows were half-open, and a light fragrance permeated the room, without any trace of the strong medicinal smell and dullness from a month ago.

There were more people in the bedroom than before. The imperial doctors in official robes looked at Jiang Youshu, who was examining Prince Huai's pulse, with concern.

Jiang Youshu looked serious. He examined his left hand and then his right hand, and it took him a while before he withdrew his hands.

"How is it?" the imperial doctors asked impatiently.

Jiang Youshu nodded with a relieved smile on his face.

"Okay," he said.

The imperial doctors had complicated expressions.

It actually healed.

Jiang Youshu stood up and bowed towards the direction of the imperial palace.

"The Emperor and the Queen Mother can finally rest assured." He sighed and looked at Miss Jun, who bowed sincerely. "Miss Jun, Jiang is humbled."

Miss Jun was not moved by Doctor Jiang's sincerity; she just nodded.

This attitude seemed very arrogant in the eyes of the imperial doctors, and added to their dissatisfaction.

Miss Jun didn't care about their dissatisfaction, and she didn't feel anything about Jiang Youshu's humble admission of defeat. How could she trust a man like Jiang Youshu?

When Jiang Youshu came to examine Prince Huai, Miss Jun's only reaction was that she would also be kicked out of Prince Huai's mansion.

But there is nothing we can do about it.

There are no secrets in Prince Huai's mansion. Everyone in the palace knows that Prince Huai's health has improved. Although she has many ways to make Prince Huai appear to be seriously ill so that she can stay by his side more often, Prince Huai's health is not suitable.

She looked at Prince Huai, who was sitting on the bed with high spirits.

It’s no wonder that Imperial Physician Jiang and his colleagues announced to the public that Prince Huai’s smallpox was difficult to cure. The cold that Prince Huai caught this time was indeed severe and almost drained his body.

She didn't dare and couldn't let Prince Huai use medicine to conceal his recovery.

Although she wanted to stay with her brother, she didn't want to do that at the cost of hurting his body.

"In that case, the New Year is coming soon. I will return to the palace to report to the emperor, and Miss Jun can go back and have a happy New Year." Jiang Youshu said with a smile.

Miss Jun said nothing, but bowed slightly to express her gratitude.

Jiang Youshu was not dissatisfied with Miss Yu Jun's attitude. He left with a smile, while the imperial doctors stayed.

"Miss Jun, please tell us if you have any instructions." An imperial physician said with a smile.

"I have nothing to tell you." Miss Jun answered immediately, looking at him and smiling, "Your Highness, I am cured. If there is anything else, it is your business. Just don't put it on me when the time comes."

What kind of words are these? The imperial doctors' faces turned pale.

"How dare you! Are you cursing His Royal Highness Prince Huai?" an imperial physician raised his brows and shouted.

Miss Jun smiled.

"There is no curse that can make people sick, only the quack doctors' shirking of their incompetence can make the disease incurable," she said.

This girl! Simply!

The doctors in the room looked angry, and gave up the forced expression of joy and admiration.

Mr. Gu, who was standing aside, smiled and looked at Miss Jun with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Miss Jun ignored all this and walked in front of Prince Huai. She squatted down and looked at Prince Huai who was sitting on the couch.

"Your Highness, now that you are well, I am leaving." She said softly, "You must take good care of yourself, don't eat anything careless, don't..."

Before she finished her words, King Huai smiled and nodded at her.

"Thank you very much." He interrupted her with a clear, childish voice and a kind expression, "The king will be grateful and reward you."

Miss Jun looked at him and wanted to say something else, but Prince Huai had already waved to Mr. Gu.

"Mr. Gu," he shouted happily, jumping off the couch, "I am now well and can continue my studies."

He walked quickly towards Mr. Gu, who came over and nodded to him with a smile.

"No hurry, no hurry," he said.

"It's urgent. I've missed a lot of homework." Prince Huai said with some seriousness and some distress.

The imperial doctors all laughed.

"Your Highness is really hardworking."

"Your Highness is smart and will be able to recover soon."

They laughed and the atmosphere in the room was lively and joyful.

Miss Jun, who was half squatting in front of the couch, seemed to be forgotten. She slowly stood up and glanced at Prince Huai, who was smiling happily at Mr. Gu. Perhaps he noticed her gaze, as Mr. Gu raised his eyes and looked over at her. There was a smile in his eyes, and there seemed to be some profound meaning in his expression.

Miss Jun bowed her head and saluted him, then picked up her medicine box and walked out without looking back.

When I walked out of Prince Huai's Mansion more than a month later, the streets were already filled with the strong flavor of the New Year.

No matter what, the wish has been fulfilled, Jiuqin's illness has been cured, and the master's handwritten note has been successfully obtained. Miss Jun patted the medicine box and said that she can have a good new year.

There was a clatter of horse hooves as Lu Yunqi, escorted by a group of Jinyiwei, arrived at the gate, reined in his horse and looked down from above.

Miss Jun glanced at him indifferently, then retracted her gaze and walked past him along the street, ignoring the gaze that was like a thorn in her back.
